Driver arrested after allegedly driving drunk into floodwaters
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A driver is facing charges after allegedly driving into floodwaters while drunk.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office states deputies responded to a call regarding a vehicle stranded in high water at Allens Lane and Eleventh Avenue.
Officials state deputies discovered a white Kia Soul submerged in about three to five feet of water with no one inside.
Deputies later found a man, later identified as William Zentmyer, lying on the ground near Allens Lane and Grove Street. He admitted that the vehicle was his and said he swam after getting stuck.
Officials state Zentmyer had several clues of intoxication including slurred speech and difficulty keeping balance. He also later admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening.
A breath test was reportedly given, and results indicated a level of .134.

Peoria man gets 7-year sentence for June 2024 shooting
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A Peoria man was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison for a June 2024 incident where two cars were struck by gunfire. Christopher Polnitz Cleary, 20, was sentenced in Peoria County Circuit Court by Chief Judge Katherine Gorman. The sentence was in near the lower end of the four-to-15-year year prison term. Polnitz-Clary was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the June 7, 2024, incident that occurred near the intersection of East Frye and North Indiana avenues. More than 60 shell casings were found on the scene, according to Peoria police. Two days later, officers were sent to the intersection of Hanssler Place and Broadway Street for another report of shots fired. When they arrived, a home and a car were struck by gunfire. During an investigation of the second shooting, detectives found that a blue Dodge Caliber was the vehicle used in the shootings. Two Peoria men indicted for June shooting leaving more than 60 shell casings behind In April, Cleary pleaded guilty and under state law, he must serve at least 85% of his sentence. During the sentencing hearing Wednesday, Assistant State's Attorney Brian FitzSimons told Gorman that the shooting happened in the middle of the day and while people were around. It's sheer luck, he said, that no one was hurt. Gorman noted that while Polnitz-Clary had taken steps to improve himself while in custody, his actions could not be overlooked. PA bill would create grant program to help police solve violent crimes
PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania senator is hoping to introduce legislation that would help provide law enforcement with tools to help solve serious crimes like homicide. Senator Joe Picozzi (R-Philadelphia County) argues that in Pennsylvania, over a quarter of homicides go unsolved, and only over one-third of crimes like robbery and burglary are solved. In a memo to lawmakers, he claims these problems can be attributed to a shortage of police personnel and the lack of investment in technology and tools that law enforcement needs. That's why he plans to introduce the Violent Incident Clearance and Technological Investigative Methods (VICTIM) Act. The proposed legislation would create a grant program through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Police agencies could then apply for grants that would be used to help solve those violent crimes. PA bills will expand access to opioid overdose reversal agents Law enforcement could use the grants for the following: Hire and retain officers Upgrade technology Ensure compliance with reporting requirements Picozzi said that the legislation is 'critical' and will provide the following results: Better public safety, because higher clearance rates lead to the apprehension and incapacitation of violent criminals. Less crime, because solving homicides and other violent crimes sends a clear message that perpetrators will be held accountable. Community trust in law enforcement, because improved clearance rates demonstrate the effectiveness of police in solving crimes and maintaining public safety. More justice for victims and families because solving homicides and other violent crimes provides closure and justice, helping victims and families heal. 'This bill supports our law enforcement by increasing the tools available to them to solve more violent crime, and by solving more violent crimes, we also build trust in our justice system.
