Seagate forecasts first-quarter revenue and profit below estimates, shares slump

CNAa day ago
Seagate Technology forecast first-quarter revenue slightly below Wall Street expectations on Tuesday, hurt by weak demand for its storage devices amid ongoing uncertainty in the personal computer market, sending its shares down 8 per cent in extended trading.
Despite optimism surrounding on-device AI features and an anticipated Windows 11 refresh cycle, end-market demand for PCs remains uncertain as consumers navigate a shifting macroeconomic and global trade landscape.
The company expects revenue for the first quarter ending September to be $2.50 billion, plus or minus $150 million, falling short of analysts' average estimate of $2.51 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Adjusted profit for the quarter is projected at $2.30 per share, plus or minus 20 cents, compared with the consensus estimate of $2.33 per share.
Growth in the PC market remains uncertain after customers advanced shipments into the first half of the year amid trade negotiations, according to analysts. Global PC shipments rose 6.5 per cent in the June quarter, according to data from International Data Corporation.
For the fourth quarter ended June 27, Seagate reported revenue of $2.44 billion, slightly above analysts' estimate of $2.43 billion.
The company posted adjusted earnings of $2.59 per share, topping expectations of $2.45.
Seagate said its first-quarter forecast accounts for the net dilutive impact of its exchangeable senior notes due in 2028 and anticipates minimal effect from current global tariff policies.

Aixtron posts Q2 sales above market expectations

German chip systems manufacturer Aixtron reported a better than expected quarterly revenue on Thursday, citing increasing demand for datacom lasers particularly for AI centers. The group's sales rose 4 per cent to 137.4 million euros ($156.9 million) in the second quarter of 2025, at the upper end of its guided range of 120-140 million euros and above analysts' average estimate of 128.2 million euros in an LSEG poll. Its quarterly earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to 23.6 million euros, up from 12.9 million a year earlier, exceeding analysts' forecast of 22.6 million euros, according to LSEG data. "Although a broader market recovery has yet to take shape, our strong execution keeps us firmly on track," CEO Felix Grawert said in a statement. Felix added that the company sees continued momentum in the datacom laser market, even if silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power electronics markets have not reached the turning point yet. The company said it will continue to monitor the impact of U.S. tariff policies on the global economy and any resulting countermeasures. U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs and uncertainty over his trade policies have sent global markets into a tailspin and significantly dampened investors' economic optimism. Aixtron confirmed its full-year outlook for 2025, expecting revenue between 530 million and 600 million euros, down from 633.2 million euros in 2024. ($1 = 0.8756 euros)

Grab Holdings beats quarterly revenue estimates

[SINGAPORE] Grab Holdings beat Wall Street expectations for second-quarter revenue on Wednesday, as consumers boosted spending on its ride-hailing and food delivery platform despite global economic uncertainty. The Singapore-based company reported revenue of US$819 million, above analysts' expectations of us$811.3 million, according to LSEG data. Grab's push to turn its platform into a superapp, integrating ride-hailing, food and grocery delivery, and other digital services, has drawn a growing number of users willing to pay for its subscription plans. While ongoing US trade negotiations have cast a cloud over global economic stability, leading to concerns about tariffs and elevated costs in South-east Asia, the Singaporean economy has remained resilient. It grew 4.3 per cent in the second quarter, avoiding a technical recession. Grab posted a profit of US$20 million for the quarter, compared with a US$68 million loss in the same period a year earlier. REUTERS
