JBL has launched three new pairs of high-end speakers in its flagship Summit Series: Makalu, Pumori and Ama. Appropriately launching at High End Munich 2025, these join the existing Everest and the five-star K2 speakers.
Like their forebears, each speaker is named after a Himalayan peak. And each promises a suitably large-scale performance, with heavily-braced cabinets, binding posts wrapped in carbon fibre and plated in rhodium.
They also boast JBL's MultiCap crossover network, which promises to maintain purity and performance throughout the audio chain, and JBL IsoAcoustics adjustable isolation feet.
Let's go climbing.
The top of the range of is Summit Makalu, named after the world's fifth-highest mountain that's just 12 miles from Everest (the mountain, not the JBL speaker).
A three-way floorstander, the Makalu is designed to "anchor large, immersive listening spaces with deep, articulate bass and soaring midrange detail", according to JBL.
Inside are a 12-inch subwoofer and an 8-inch midrange driver that both use JBL's proprietary HC4 composite cones, alongside JBL's patented D2 compression driver and precision-moulded HDI Sonoglass horn, promising "stunning dynamics and crystal-clear imaging".
It also promises to be a looker, with a contoured cabinet with a rich ebony veneer and gold accents or high-gloss piano black with platinum detailing.
Summit Makalu cost £36,998 / $44,995 (around AU$77,000) per pair.
Mount Pumori on the Nepal-China border is known as the daughter of Everest. Its namesake is another three-way floorstander whose speciality is musical balance and purity.
It boasts a 10-inch woofer and an 8-inch midrange driver, along with the same D2 compression driver and HDI horn architecture as the Summit Makalu.
It also has a softly contoured cabinet with luxurious finishes.
Summit Pumori cost £26,998 / $29,995 (around AU$56,000) per pair.
Ama Dablam is one of the Himalayas' most iconic and picturesque peaks – its name translates as 'Mother's Necklace'.
The Summit Ama speaker is a two-way standmount that's more compact than its stablemates. It offers an 8-inch HC4 cone woofer, D2 compression driver and HDI horn, and promises "exceptional clarity, control, and coherence across the frequency spectrum".
It comes with a matching steel-and-aluminium stand.
Including stands, they cost £14,998 / $19,995 (around AU$31,000) per pair.
Still, that's cheaper than the K2 speakers, which cost a cool £44,000 when we reviewed them back in 2017. We considered them one of the best speakers money can buy, praising their "spellbinding combination of dynamics, insight and finesse".
Let's hope the new trio live up to such grand heights.

Issey Miyake's Pleats Please Makes Maternity Dressing a Delight

In the real world, most of the women with a penchant for Pleats Please that I speak to began with the brand's straight leg trousers and the tank dresses during their pregnancies. Many didn't buy specific maternity-wear, and were determined to keep true to their own sense of style. Merle Carlet, a Berlin-based creative director, bought a set of straight leg black Pleats pants in her first trimester, then, a wider set of beige pants, and a Homme Plissé t-shirt. She wears her pants and the Madame T with chunky jewelry from Uncommon Matters, The Row sock slippers, and a Bottega Veneta Jodie bag. 'An outfit you put together yesterday may not fit tomorrow,' Carlet says. 'I'm not able to wear anything like the usual pregnancy looks: I'm not a dress girl, no floral prints…I didn't want to buy things that I will only wear during pregnancy.' Pleats Please stretches itself to all of a pregnant person's priorities. It is soft and comfortable, machine washable and easydrying, and grows with the belly. London-based editor and writer Liv Siddall wore a coral, sleeveless and high-necked dress to a wedding when she was seven months pregnant and 'absolutely enormous.' 'There are so many aspects of the world that enrage and frustrate you during pregnancy, but the lack of chic or interesting maternity wear available is extraordinary,' she says. 'The fun thing about this is that you have to really use your brain as to what will work on your growing shape.' 'Often, people just look at your belly and see you as a pregnant woman, rather than a woman in your own right,' says Siddall. 'This Issey dress was like a big orange beacon that proclaimed to the world that I had a personality, an independent person with interests and style, as opposed to just an anonymous vessel carrying a baby.' 'I attended an Amina Muaddi store opening during my pregnancy and wore my A.M X AWGE heels, which have an embellished curb chain ankle strap. I wanted to make sure this was going to be shown, so I tucked the Pleats Pleases trousers into the chain which I think made the outfit!' says Fáizah Akindojuromi, a London-based creative director and producer. 'I love that the lines of the pleats really emphasize the curves of the bump.'

The Next Tech Supercycle Is Shaping The Future Of Financial Services

Some questions are always the same; it's the answers that change, as our understanding evolves when new knowledge and perspectives emerge. One such question is about the future of AI. The reference to Albert Einstein's famous quip on why some questions are timeless served as the opening statement at the recent SAP and SAP Fioneer Forum for Financial Services event presented by TAC Insights in Munich. It was meant to remind the audience of financial experts that AI is shaking up the world as they know it. The importance of continuous learning and adapting to new information, rather than relying heavily on past knowledge, has never been more important. 'At SAP, we see AI as the defining force of the next technology supercycle – one that will deeply transform how enterprises operate,' said Dominik Asam, CFO and member of the Executive Board, SAP SE, during his opening keynote. 'AI is a must-win area for SAP,' he emphasized. 'The transition to AI will determine success in enterprise tech, and the cloud is a prerequisite for AI to work at scale.' Asam noted that this AI wave is bigger than any previous supercycles such as mainframes, the internet, and cloud computing. AI isn't just a product – it's a platform technology, underpinning and enhancing other innovations, including automation, robotics, analytics, personalized customer experiences and autonomous systems Asam explained SAP's strategy to put AI first, integrating AI into every business process, transforming how people work and enhancing the productivity, profitability, and growth ambitions of its customers. This involves hundreds of AI features and agents embedded directly into SAP solutions, covering areas from supply chain management to customer experience. SAP's AI copilot Joule serves as the new user interface in the age of AI – embedded everywhere, from the SAP Business Suite to mobile devices and even integrated with third-party assistants. Asam sees financial services as one of the sectors most impacted by AI, and SAP is aligning its solutions accordingly. That's because financial services demand accuracy and auditability. AI must improve, not compromise, control functions. AI is already being used to detect anomalies in real time, automate reconciliation and reporting, and reduce compliance risk and audit failures. "In finance, you can't afford hallucinations. AI must beat the assurance level of a human," said SAP's CFO, highlighting AI's role in strengthening, not replacing, human oversight. However, Generative AI is only as strong as the data that powers it. One issue some financial institutions face is that their HR, finance, risk, and customer data are all housed in separate silos. SAP offers a seamless integration of applications, data, and AI in one ecosystem. With Business AI, financial institutions can enhance forecasting and planning. Now, for example, banks can use HR data such as attrition and recruiting to refine cost forecasts, and automate bottom-up budget models instead of relying on subjective, top-down estimates. This leads to faster and more objective forecasting. Joule for finance When it comes to Business AI for finance and spend management, it's all about efficiency. AI-copilot Joule partners with SAP Document and Reporting Compliance to translate complex e-invoicing errors into natural language. This way, error misunderstandings will be a thing of the past. Joule enhancements in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition will increase efficiency with proactive sales order fulfillment monitoring, direct fixed asset master data creation, and price adjustment suggestions. And for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, Joule helps users with field logistics, cash management, contract analysis, and streamlines convergent invoicing processes. The first Joule agents are now available in spend management. 'Regardless of the use case, we are placing special focus on trust, explainability, and control,' said Asam. Last fall, SAP updated its Global AI Ethics Policy to ground it in the human-rights centered approach of the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. 'We do this to deliver Business AI that drives relevant outcomes, activates reliable insights, and scales responsibly.' The bottom line SAP sees this supercycle as a chance to rewire the enterprise for agility, accuracy, and control. Financial services organizations that embrace AI with the right governance and integration strategy will: 'This is not optional – we work every day, day in and day out, to make sure businesses benefit from this tremendous opportunity,' Asam underlined. For SAP and its financial services clients, AI is a now-or-never moment. Many SAP customers in the financial service industry are heeding the call. During his keynote at the same event, Stephan Paxmann, Chief Innovation Officer, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), corroborated Asam's view that AI is a now-or-never-moment. 'AI in fintech is already pervasively integrated, quietly reshaping our lives,' said Paxmann, expanding on the topic in a recent article on SAP BrandVoice. 'It's transforming financial services, not with sudden disruption, but through a gradual, pragmatic shift that empowers people, augments human tasks, and requires thoughtful, responsible integration—especially around data, usability, and trust.' In closing, both financial experts agree that AI is not just another tech trend – it's a tectonic shift. Those who understand and adapt early will be best positioned to ride the wave.

Here's how to watch all the announcements and world premieres at the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2025

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. When it comes to Gamescom, there are two kinds of people. The first: the event's haggard attendees, who arrive in droves to hack through throngs of cosplayers and stand in three-hour queues. The second: people who elect to hang out at home instead and let all the news come to them. Canny. If you're in the latter camp, then guess what? The Future Games Show at Gamescom is returning this Wednesday, August 20 at 11 am PT, 2 pm ET, 7 pm BST and 8 pm CEST. It'll be a 90-minute extravaganza (way more vaganza than is typical) with world premieres, exclusives, and stealth demo drops. You know, all the stuff you tune into Gamescom for. The show will feature games like Skate, Resident Evil: Requiem, Blood of Dawnwalker, and plenty else besides. You demanded it (probably, I haven't checked), and FGS at Gamescom is finally doing it. It's finally bringing together Solid Snake and Lady Dimitrescu. The show will be hosted by none other than David Hayter and Maggie Robertson, so expect a good showing for people saying 'You're pretty good' and for at least like 12 guys to lose their hands. How to watch the Future Games Show at Gamescom The show will go out pretty much everywhere that can hold a stream, and you can catch it on Twitch, YouTube, Steam, X, Facebook, TikTok, GamesRadar, PC Gamer, Gamespot, BiliBili and more. If English isn't your language of choice (who can blame you? None of these words sound like how they're written), it'll also go out in American Sign Language and British Sign Language YouTube Premieres as well as dedicated streams with localised subtitles in Spanish, German, French, Polish, Portuguese, Italian, Thai, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Once the main event is over, stay tuned for FGS Live from Gamescom right after, a 40-minute showcase featuring even more trailers, announcements, and world premieres. Then come back a week later on Sunday, August 24 for the Best of Gamescom, to see what's hot on the showfloor. You won't even have to queue.
