The Greenway: Construction begins on NJ's newest rail-to-trail park
The Greenway is a 9-mile, 100-foot-wide former rail line that stretches through Essex and Hudson counties. The rail line will be fully restored, offering residents alternative ways of transportation, various green spaces, outdoor gathering spots and other amenities.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is leading the project while the New Jersey Economic Development Authority is overseeing construction. NJ Transit is also collaborating in the project and will potentially expand the Secaucus-Meadowlands Transitway into the park.
Once complete, The Greenway will connect eight municipalities: Jersey City, Secaucus, Kearny, Newark, Belleville, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge and Montclair.

The Newark portion of The Greenway will span a mile from Branch Brook Park to Broadway Avenue, with the path being ADA compliant and lined with native plants.
The linear path will feature downward-facing lighting and designated lanes for cyclists and walkers, encouraging safe speeds and practices for all. There will be three major gathering spaces along the path:
The Newark Central Activity Center will be between Summer and Broadway Avenue. It will have a stage and lawn, playground and water play area, multi-sport courts, outdoor exercise stations, picnic tables, and restrooms.
The Tiffany Manor Community Space will be located between Manchester Place and Greenwood Lake Street, across from the Tiffany Manor. This area will have central seating and space for short-term amenities, including food trucks. Rain gardens and native plants will surround the area.
The Branch Brook Park Overlook will be west of the Tiffany Manor. An observation deck will be built that overlooks the 360-acre Branch Brook Park. Nearby, visitors can walk to Belleville Park and the Hendricks Field Golf Course.

This segment of The Greenway represents the largest single investment in state history for the development of a new state park at $69.2 million. This phase is to be completed by the end of 2026.

From Franchisee To Chairman: Friendly's Operator Acquires Brix Holdings
NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES - 2007/05/19: Friendly's Ice Cream store exterior. (Photo by John ... More Greim/LightRocket via Getty Images) A shift is happening in the franchise world. Amol Kohli, who got his start as a teenager bussing tables at Friendly's, now owns one of the most recognizable franchise holding companies in the restaurant industry. Through his firm, Legacy Brands International, Kohli has acquired Brix Holdings. The Dallas-based company manages over 250 restaurant locations, including familiar brands such as Red Mango, Orange Leaf, Clean Juice, and Smoothie Factory and Kitchen. This is not just another acquisition. It marks a transition in how leadership shows up in franchising. Kohli brings something different. He has not come from the private equity world or a Wall Street office. His perspective comes from working in the business, not just owning it. A Practical Approach to Executive Leadership Kohli knows what it means to sweep floors, run a shift, and manage a team on a busy Saturday night. That hands-on experience has shaped his leadership style. Today, as Chairman of Legacy Brands International, he brings those insights to the table as the company looks toward the future. Brix Holdings will continue operating from its Dallas headquarters. Sherif Mityas, a seasoned executive, remains in his role as CEO, providing continuity during the transition of ownership. Former owner JAMCO Interests still maintains a financial interest, suggesting long-term confidence in the new leadership. Veteran franchising leader John Antioco praised Kohli for his operator-first mindset and vision for scaling brands while maintaining a focus on the franchisee. Kohli did not inherit his place at the top. He earned it. At fifteen, he worked the floor at a Friendly's in New Jersey. Over time, he gained a thorough understanding of the operations. He served customers, learned how to read a profit and loss report, and figured out how to keep staff motivated. He eventually became a franchise owner. Today, he operates more than thirty Friendly's restaurants across the eastern United States. That journey, built step by step, gives him a deep understanding of what franchisees face every day. This year, Friendly's turns ninety. While many legacy brands fade with age, Friendly's is gaining traction once again. According to reports from Brix Holdings, customer interest is growing. In the first quarter of 2025, the company signed eight new franchise agreements. Additional deals are underway, and several new locations are already being built. Kohli has his sights set on growth markets like Georgia, Texas, and the Carolinas. These regions have strong demographics and rising interest in fast-casual dining. He plans to support franchisees more effectively, increase brand awareness, and create value through strategic expansion. Kohli's story is not an isolated one. Across the restaurant sector, more franchisees are moving from operators to brand owners. They are no longer just running units. They are stepping into leadership roles that once belonged to investors and executives with little field experience. This shift brings operational knowledge into strategic planning. It creates leadership teams that understand both vision and execution. Kohli is part of that movement. His decisions are informed by years of working closely with employees and guests. The focus now is on building a strong foundation for growth. Kohli plans to invest in support systems that help franchisees thrive. That includes better training, more responsive infrastructure, and clear brand direction. While Friendly's remains a centerpiece of the portfolio, Kohli is also exploring ways to develop and acquire additional concepts that align with the company's core values. The acquisition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Brix Holdings. With experienced leadership and capital to invest, the company is positioned to grow responsibly and effectively. Kohli's path from server to owner reflects something rare in business. It proves that deep involvement, hard work, and patience can lead to leadership at the highest level. His journey is not typical, but it is becoming more common as franchisees take greater ownership of the systems they helped build.

ICOPAX Technologies Launches Telegram Based Blockchain Platform With Presales Decentralized Trading and In App Project Insights
JERSEY CITY, NJ / ACCESS Newswire / July 26, 2025 / ICOPAX Technologies, Inc., a blockchain infrastructure and software development company, has formally announced the launch of a new digital asset access and trading platform integrated directly into Telegram. The platform aims to consolidate various decentralized finance (DeFi) functions into a single, mobile-first interface embedded within Telegram chats, eliminating the need for separate applications, browser extensions, or wallet integrations. The ICOPAX platform introduces a task-based participation model in which users can complete predefined, in-chat actions to gain access to token presales hosted on the platform. These actions include content sharing, community engagement, and referral activities. Access to presales is determined by system-defined thresholds and is not based on random selection, gas competition, or whitelist approval. Presale participation is facilitated through smart contracts, which are designed to ensure transparent token allocation and minimize administrative risk. In addition to presale access, the platform features a decentralized exchange (DEX) that enables real-time token swaps across multiple blockchain networks. Initial support includes BNB Chain and Solana, with plans to expand to other major ecosystems. The DEX is fully integrated into the Telegram interface, providing users with access to swapping functionality, liquidity monitoring tools, and staking modules. The design is intended to allow users to execute trades and monitor assets without leaving the Telegram chat environment. ICOPAX also announced the deployment of a project review and selection framework. Token projects seeking listing or presale access on the platform undergo an internal evaluation process that assesses both technical components and operational transparency. Projects that meet internal criteria are onboarded and granted access to ICOPAX's smart contract deployment tools for presales and token distribution. This process is intended to reduce exposure to malicious contracts and unaudited token mechanics, while offering a more predictable distribution model. A content and information module, branded as ICOPAX News, has also been introduced. This feature provides Telegram-based delivery of project launch announcements, market updates, and blockchain-related insights curated by the ICOPAX team. The information feed is accessible directly within Telegram and is updated in coordination with project events, platform developments, and broader market conditions. According to the company's publicly released roadmap, platform development has followed a phased deployment schedule. During Q2 2025, ICOPAX launched a Telegram bot MVP (minimum viable product), conducted third-party security audits, and completed user experience (UX) testing. In Q3 2025, the company is scheduled to host its first presales, release the beta version of its DEX swap feature, introduce staking capabilities, and officially launch its native utility token. Plans for Q4 2025 include the addition of multi-chain functionality, regulatory compliance tools, and a performance analytics dashboard for platform participants. ICOPAX has also stated its intention to launch a standalone mobile application in 2026 and implement decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governance features to support community-led decision-making. The native utility token, scheduled for release in Q3 2025, is expected to serve multiple platform roles, including fee reduction, staking eligibility, governance participation, and access tiering. The token will incorporate a deflationary design through a programmed burn mechanism tied to platform usage. The company has stated that all token mechanics will be deployed via verifiable smart contracts and subjected to code audit procedures. ICOPAX Technologies, Inc. reports increasing activity on its waitlist and Telegram bot, with pilot engagement from users in Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and selected regions in Europe. The company attributes early adoption to the platform's mobile-native design and the ability to consolidate multiple blockchain functions within a familiar messaging app. The founding team includes contributors with prior experience in DeFi protocol development, token launchpad infrastructure, and blockchain security auditing, including work related to platforms such as PancakeSwap and PinkSale. In parallel with the product rollout, ICOPAX has opened a pre-seed and seed funding round. The company stated that capital raised will be used for continued product development, smart contract audits, liquidity provisioning for DEX functionality, backend infrastructure scaling, and regulatory compliance support.
