Liberal comic who helped popularize podcasting explains why he turned down Hillary Clinton interview
Maron, a podcasting pioneer and host of the popular "WTF with Marc Maron" podcast, interviewed former President Barack Obama in 2015, which helped open the door to high-level politicians willing to appear on his show, such as Hillary Clinton.
When Maron's longtime producer Brendan McDonald pitched Clinton, fresh off her loss to President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, the comedian decided against interviewing the former Secretary of State.
"'You're the guy to do this,'" McDonald recalled telling Maron. "He adamantly disagreed."

Maron told The Hollywood Reporter that "the success rate of getting to a candid place with politicians is very small," and that his successful interview with Obama was an exception.

"And this is somebody who's divisive and controversial and has a history that's somewhat sordid, not by any fault of her own, but I just didn't see where I could go with that," he said of the prospect of interviewing Clinton.
Although his "WTF" podcast continues to maintain cultural relevance, Maron announced in June that he will be ending the long-running show. He told CNN on Thursday that he's just over the medium and noted that the podcast space has become oversaturated.
"I don't want to chase the cultural conversation through clickbait and garbage. You know, I don't want to be tethered," Maron said.
"And now you're getting out just when everyone's 100% convinced that podcasts are deciding American elections and the future of mankind. Right? So why get out just when everyone catches up to you?" CNN anchor John Berman asked the comedian.

Maron told the anchor that he never intended for the show to be about politics, and felt that it had run its course.
"And we really chose not to do politics and just do kind of profiles and sort of candid conversation," he said, describing how he originally set up the show. "And we were audio, and we remained audio because we believe that's the most intimate, you know, form."
He continued, noting that he's satisfied with how much content the show has produced and that he wants to get out with so many other podcasters competing on the scene.
"And also, if we stop and at this point, you know, we have a body of work that stands on its own. And in terms of, yeah, podcasts being the new medium, that means there's 10,000 podcasts. Everyone's doing one, and it's just, the environment is a little cluttered and oversaturated."

Clark started gushing about how Flacco has managed to continuously get work in the NFL despite having semi-retired several years ago. He then declared that Flacco's return to the NFL is "the greatest resurrection since Jesus Christ," which as you might imagine didn't sit well with some. "I'm gonna tell you what, man," Clark said. "Joe Flacco must have the faith of a mustard seed, right? Because this is the greatest resurrection since Jesus the Christ. Like, at some point, Joe Flacco was thinking about getting into TV, right? Joe Flacco didn't have a job. And then, now, you not only coming back and starting for the Cleveland Browns late in the 2023 season, but they came back around to you and you're now the day one starter for a franchise that just two years ago was in the playoffs." The reaction has been pretty nasty Fans were already pretty exhausted of Clark's hyperbolic analysis and were even less amused when he decided to compare an NFL quarterback to the legendary Christian figure. So after seeing that quote on their social media feeds, fans quickly made it clear how much they absolutely despised Clark: "Ryan Clark is literally the worst sports commentator of all time," one user said bluntly. BALTIMORE — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore's press secretary left his state government role on Tuesday, moving to a senior advisory role on the governor's reelection campaign. Carter Elliott IV, who served as senior press secretary since Moore took office in January 2023, announced his departure in an email Tuesday. 'As my last day in the Governor's Office comes to a close, I just want to reach out to say it was the greatest pleasure of my life to serve in this role and I'm grateful to have gotten to know some incredible people,' Elliott said in the email. 'I grew up in a family where the best career that you could follow was being a farmer, a teacher, or a public servant — this had been my dream for as long as I can remember.' The Baltimore Sun reached out to Elliott for further details about his new role on Moore's campaign. In an email to the governor's staff, obtained by The Sun, Elliott thanked his colleagues for 'making Maryland a home.' He lived in Baltimore before moving to Annapolis this year. Elliott expressed gratitude for his work in the governor's office, which this year included a tumultuous legislative session in which lawmakers increased taxes and cut spending to close a $3.3 billion deficit. He described Moore as 'the best governor in the country' and said 'to work for someone that inspires you is something special.' A native of Virginia, Elliott was previously communications manager for Moore's 2022 gubernatorial campaign, according to his LinkedIn page. He loved his Church, the Cubs, bowling, and making up puns and funny phrases. Don was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retiree of Sandia National Laboratories.
