Race 1 (1,160m)
(9) STONE OF SCONE improved to finish second over track and trip last time, so she rates the one to beat.
However, a bigger threat could come from well-bred newcomers (8) SISTERSHIP, (10) SURPRISE PARTY and (3) CHANTILLY DREAM.
Race 2 (1,160m)
(8) DETAILED FORECAST was featured prominently before tiring late on debut. She would have benefited from that experience, so could repay her followers. A handy 2.5kg sex allowance will aid her cause.
(7) THE LAST DUKE fits a similar profile and should acquit himself more competitively in maiden company.
Watch the betting on the newcomers, especially (3) GAVIUS MAXIMUS and stablemate (4) JABARI THIMBA.
Race 3 (1,160m)
This would not take much winning so, if there is no market support for either of the newcomers, then (10) FIERY ROSE can be confidently backed to open her account. She outran market expectations when finishing second over track and trip on debut before another runner-up finish last time.
Newcomer (9) TITAN OF THE TURF, debutant (7) LANNYBOY and the unexposed (5) SILVER LONGSWORD could give the selection most to fear.
Race 4 (1,160m)
(13) WISE COUNSEL showed signs of inexperience on debut, but she did catch the eye once the penny had dropped, staying on to finish a creditable fifth over 1,000m. She would have come on appreciably with the benefit of that experience, so her progress could be worth following.
(7) MASTER'S LADY and (10) SEASON'S GREETINGS will likely make their presence felt, especially if building on the improvement they showed last time.
Newcomer (8) QUEENSLAND must be respected.
Race 5 (1,000m)
Competitive sprint handicap.
(4) RODEO DRIVE has been sparingly raced as a 3YO after a productive 2YO campaign that included a second at Grade 1 level. Predominantly raced in feature races since, she remains open to improvement and is worth siding with on her handicap debut, even against older hard-knocking male rivals.
Stablemate (6) CHIEFTAIN also has room to improve.
(5) ONE FELL SWOOP should not be taken lightly.
Race 6 (1,000m)
The lightly raced (2) BOURBON RESERVE has exhibited respiratory issues, but those may have been resolved during the 10-week break after a disappointing last start. Judging on the strength and consistency of his earlier form, coupled with the likelihood of improvement in just his sixth appearance, he is good value to score on his return in these calmer waters.
Hard-knockers (4) JOHN WICK and (8) RAFA BAY could expose any chinks in the selection's armour.
(7) HEMISPHERE is also a lightly raced 3YO gelding capable of having a say in the outcome.
Race 7 (1,400m)
(2) CEUTA confirmed the improvement of her two previous outings by winning last time. She copped a seven-point penalty for that career-best performance, but on the evidence of that victory, there may not be enough to prevent her from winning again.
(8) GLAMOROUS LADY and (4) MISS HANNIGAN have the form and experience to play leading roles too. (3) QUEEN OF LOVE reunites with Piere Strydom - with whom she is unbeaten - and that could bring about a more competitive showing.
There were valid excuses for the disappointing showing from (6) BLIND AMBITION last time, so she should not be overlooked either.
Race 8 (1,400m)
(2) PRINCESS ILARIA has finished second in consecutive recent starts at a higher level, so this drop in class, even off a higher mark, ought to bring about a return to winning ways.
(1) BOOM BOOM and (7) QUANTUM are closely matched on these terms after a recent 1,600m on the Inside track. Both will have a say in the outcome if reproducing similar performances.
Last-start maiden winner (8) CAPE SAFFRON is open to improvement and she could be leniently treated under 55kg on her handicap debut.
Race 9 (1,160m)
None of these inspire any degree of confidence but it could be worth siding with (7) PHALA MILLIONS, whose recent form and consistency at this level will be rewarded sooner than later.
(1) ENSUING is all held by that rival on recent form.
(2) TOKYO MEDAGLIA can improve and has performed well over track and trip, so he must be respected.
(11) BREGARDT resurfaced on the Polytrack last time - finishing ahead of both (8) MARIACHI MADNESS and (6) PRIZED PLATINUM - but needs to confirm that improvement back on turf to make his presence felt.

Aug 4 South Africa (Fairview) form analysis

Race 1 (1,200m) (3) THE ROARING ROCK did not show his best on the Polytrack. There is a chance this race will be run on the Polytrack if the rains arrive. He will prove hard to beat on the grass. (4) AWAY WITH RED showed improvement last time and can contest the finish again. (5) AMERICAN EAGLE is improving and is not out of it. (7) FLIGHT ENGINEER is battling to win a race but could play a minor role. Race 2 (1,600m) (1) PYRO EDITION is improving and could go one better on his last good run. (2) BOMBER BAY is holding form and will not go down without a fight for top honours. (3) GLOBAL DRUMBEAT is also holding form and should earn some money. (7) ZAMBEZI SUNSET is capable of improving and could earn more money. Race 3 (1,400m) (3) BIRD ON A WING was not disgraced on the Polytrack last time. She is probably better on the turf and should make a bold bid at a first victory. (2) AMANATTO has not liked the Polytrack on her last two starts and could make significant improvement if this takes place on the turf. (1) LADY BOMBER proved in need of her local debut. She will strip fitter and could fight out the finish. (11) ATLANTIC PEARL is capable of earning some money. Race 4 (1,400m) An interesting race. (5) ABOVE THE HORIZON beat a decent filly and could be well ahead of the handicapper. (6) DUMISANI has got close to winning twice of late, and is not out of it. (4) GOLDEN GREY picked up some confidence after a deserving first success and he can get involved with the finish yet again. (2) GLOBETONIC is not reliable, but can contest the finish. Race 5 (2,000m) (2) GIMME MORE TIME does well at Fairview and does look the right one over this course and distance. (3) MAKHACHEV is not reliable, but is also not out of it. (7) ANATOLIAN SILVER and (8) NOTHINGELSEMATTERS are both ready to fight out the finish. (4) NO PLACE LIKE HOME and (5) PAINITE are usually competitive, and can be involved with the finish. Race 6 (1,200m) (8) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL is not an easy ride, but he has had a successful year and can contest the finish. (10) SPEED RACER and (6) FOREST SPY are all stablemates to the selection and none of them can be ruled out. (5) DUBAI HILLS remains in good form and can fight out the finish yet again. Race 7 (1,200m) A very open handicap. (3) DRESSEDTOTHENINES needed the last run and can show vast improvement. (2) YOU'RE SO SPECIAL showed promise and could be better than her handicap rating. (4) THREAD OF LIFE and (5) FREE WORLD are consistent and can earn some money. (7) HUGSANDHIGHFIVES and (9) CITY OF DREAMS are better than they showed last time, and could pop up and score. Race 8 (1,000m) A nice race to end the meeting. It could be fought out by two recent maiden winners. (3) DANISH DYNAMITE was very impressive last time and can follow up if as good on the turf, while (2) BUFFALO BILL was full of running on the turf last time and does have more wins in his tank. (4) MUNCHKIN has not been far from winning, and has to be considered a possible victor. (8) CASINO ACE and (9) CAPE CAPRI are both better than their last runs suggest, and it would not be a surprise for either to win.

Brook and Root give England scent of famous win

LONDON :Harry Brook and Joe Root shared a superb partnership of 195 to put England on course to complete a record run chase at tea on the fourth day of the final test against India at The Oval on Sunday. The touring side, needing victory to level the series, lead by 56 runs with four sessions left, and although Brook was out just before the interval for a brilliant 111, Root remained on 98 to keep England in control with Jacob Bethell on one. Brook, who survived on 19 when Mohammed Siraj caught him in the deep before stepping back on to the boundary cushion, struck two sixes and 12 fours to reach his 10th test century off 91 balls. Root provided the perfect foil, continuing his consistent form throughout the series, as the Indian bowlers struggled to get much movement under grey skies. Once past three figures, Brook launched an all-out attack, hitting Akash Deep for two fours in an over before attempting a third with a wild swing and skying a catch to Siraj. Brook's bat flew out of his hands as he played the stroke and he had to retrieve it before returning to the pavilion to a standing ovation from the crowd. Bethell got away with a reckless pull which landed just short of a fielder and Root survived a huge shout for lbw off Siraj, getting the decision overturned on review after he was given out by the umpire. India had the better of the morning session after England resumed on 50-1, dismissing Ben Duckett for 54 and Ollie Pope for 27 to leave the hosts wobbling on 106-3. Siraj's error, however, changed the momentum in a fluctuating game once again.

Aug 3 South Africa (Greyville) form guide

Race 1 (1,000m) It may pay to keep track of the first timers. Of those who have run, (1) BLAZING BEAUTY made major improvement at long odds and first run for her new stable. A repeat can see her home in a modest line-up. Judged on jockey booking, debutant (3) CAPTAIN VENTURA could be the stable elect for trainer Darryl Moore, who commented that she is very quick. Stable companion (7) QUEEN FENN has shown some ability. too. (9) KALI BWANA drops back in trip following a fifth place over 1,200m at her last start. Making slow headway. Race 2 (1,200m) (1) THAT'LL BE THE DAY was a beaten favourite last run after a smart previous effort. From pole position draw he may be the one to beat. (4) KANAAL SKATER made marked improvement first time out in KZN and can build on that. (2) HIGHER LOVE is way better than his last two and has done well on the Poly. (7) RED CARDINAL raced green on debut and is sure to come on with the run. Race 3 (1,200m) (8) BOARDWALK BREEZE has been knocking at the door for some time now and has improved in blinkers. Not disgraced last run, he should finish in the money. (4) DEVOTED comes from a very much in-form stable and is one to watch in the market. (5) TASTE THE RAINBOW raced green on debut and although some way back the winner Green Gateway, looks to be more than useful. (3) TARGARYEN KNIGHT finished just ahead of Taste The Rainbow but was having his second outing. Race 4 (1,800m) (14) TWILIGHT WARRIOR has a wide draw to contend with but made a promising local debut and looks set to make further improvement. (10) ZARA'S WINTER appears to be coming to hand at the right time. Mike Miller's charge has started at long odds in all three outings but has come on with each start and could prove to be the best of his four runners. (2) CARNIVAL PARK has taken time to shed his maiden but has not been far back and has a plum draw to help his cause. (9) LUNAR DESCENT is better than his last run. He has been showing signs of coming to hand and with a more experienced jockey aboard he should be competitive. Race 5 (1,800m) (4) PRINCESS PALACE has dropped in the ratings and this step-up in distance along with a handy galloping weight will give him every chance. (6) ELEMBEE has come down to a more competitive rating and has shown steady improvement at recent outings. She is seldom far back and should be in the mix. (2) QUEEN AMINA built on his steady improvement when not winning out of turn on the Poly last time. The trip suits. (3) ANOTHER DREAM was a game winner first-up out of the maidens. Three might be too much to ask from Lucinda Woodruff's filly but she cannot be ignored. Race 6 (1,600m) (7) CASSANDRA is still a maiden but has shown up well in all three of her starts and Glen Kotzen's filly is up against some well exposed opposition. (6) AMAFORT is lightly raced but appears to have come to hand at recent outings and looks primed for this. (9) COPACABANA has drawn wide but has been holding form well and the extra furlong should be in her favour. (1) MOUNTAINSOFTHEMOON was a beaten favourite at his last outing but has improved with a tongue-tie and has the best of the draws. Race 7 (1,600m) Competitive field. (9) CALLMEGETRIX was possibly outclassed in the Grade 1 Garden Province but had smart form before that and should go well in this line-up. (3) WHITE PEARL finished less than a length behind Callmegetrix in the Garden Province and has the better draw this time around. There should not be much between the two. (2) TWO G'S steps up in class and trip but is lightly raced and her recent form is solid. (4) SOVEREIGN GRANT hardly ever runs a poor race and should be right up there. Race 8 (1,000m) (1) RAFA'S BOY has a big weight but is in mustard form. All recent form has been over the Hollywoodbets Scottsville straight and he takes the turn but from pole position. (4) CATAVAR has shown up well in two recent outings on the Poly. His last win was over course and distance. (10) IBHELE has been dropping steadily in the ratings. Down in class and he can surprise. (2) TRAFALGAR SQUARE is quick. He has started at long odds in all of his recent starts but can pop up.
