Cyclist breaks course record before top ten finish in national race

Yahooa day ago
A cyclist smashed a course record before finishing in the top ten of a national race.
Kev Chant, a Wightlink CRT member, achieved this feat after his overall win in the local evening TT series.
He had set a new record on the Ningwood 10 circuit before competing in the RTTC National 25 TT in Cambridgeshire on August 3.
Good weather conditions made for a fast race and, as it was his first 25-mile time trial, Kev was seeded to start early.
He completed the two laps of the course, which featured a series of technical roundabouts, in 50 minutes and 53 seconds.

With 135 riders on the start sheet, he waited to see if his time would secure a top 10 finish.
He finished in seventh place overall.
Kev said: "I don't think I could have done much more on the day.
"I paced it well and I'm really pleased with the seventh place finish in under 51 minutes up against a lot of top class riders in the UK.
"I'm now looking forward to the national 10, which is more my distance, later this month and hoping to bring home another good result for the team."

Blackpool sign Forest's Taylor on four-year deal

Blackpool have signed forward Dale Taylor from Premier League side Nottingham Forest on a four-year deal with the option of a further year. The 21-year-old has made almost 100 appearances in League One, having had spells on loan with Burton Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, and joins for an undisclosed fee. A Northern Ireland international, Taylor came through Linfield's youth setup before joining Forest in 2020, however, his solitary appearance for the club came in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town in August 2022. "I'm absolutely delighted and excited to be here, as it has been a long time in the making. "I have spoken to the manager quite a bit, and where he wants to take this club is very exciting for me and a real inspiration behind the decision to join this massive club." Taylor is the third player Blackpool have paid a fee for so far this summer, in addition to midfielder Jordan Brown and winger Malcolm Ebiowei.

Antonio to leave West Ham after car crash

Michail Antonio's 10-year spell at West Ham is over after the club decided not to offer the 35-year-old a new contract. The forward has not played since being involved in a serious car accident in December, which left him with a badly broken leg. The Jamaica international has stated his intention to return to action but that will not be with the Hammers. Antonio is the club's all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League and netted 83 times in total during 323 appearances. "Michail will always be a much-loved and respected member of the West Ham United family," the club said in a statement. "As has been the case since December, the club will continue to support and assist him in his ongoing rehabilitation, offering him access to training, facilities and medical care if needed." West Ham confirmed they are still in negotiations with Antonio over a possible non-playing role at the club in the future. Antonio was part of the West Ham side that won the club's first trophy since 1980 when they lifted the Europa Conference League in 2023. "Everyone at West Ham United would like to sincerely thank Michail for his outstanding, dedicated service in a claret and blue shirt over the last ten years," the statement said. kca/jw
