LIV Golfer Surprisingly Disqualified From The Open Championship
The Open Championship, golf's oldest major, is set to take place from 17–20 July 2025 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

However, before golfers reach the famed links, they must survive two intense rounds in Final Qualifying. 36-hole 'marathons' held at venues like West Lancashire, Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald and Royal Cinque Ports.
Only the top five from each site earn a coveted spot in the 153rd Open. This year's Final Qualifying drew a strong contingent of LIV‑Golf players. Fourteen competed across the four locations.
Among that group, Majesticks GC star Sam Horsfield, 28, held high hopes after making the cut at last year's Open and thrived at Final Qualifying in 2024.
But his 2025 effort stumbled early at West Lancashire Golf Club. Through nine holes, Horsfield was seven over par, carding a 43 on the front nine.

Instead of continuing or officially withdrawing, he simply packed up and left the course at the turn, without notifying tournament officials. Under R&A rules, failure to formally withdraw constitutes a disqualification.
Accordingly, Horsfield was officially disqualified from the Final Qualifier on Tuesday.

The ruling highlights the R&A's strict adherence to protocol. Even underperformance must be handled through proper channels.
Horsfield's decision to depart without a formal withdrawal transformed what might have been a simple abandonment of his challenge into a clean rule breach.
It also highlighted the mental toll of the 36‐hole qualifier grind, especially for players traveling from the U.S. only days prior.

While some LIV peers, like Poland's Adrian Meronk, withdrew after 18 holes with official notice, Horsfield's misstep cost him his tournament standing.
As the drama at West Lancashire wraps up, attention shifts to the remaining qualifiers and who will secure the final tickets to Portrush.

Chicago Sky Coach Addresses Potential Angel Reese Decision
Chicago Sky Coach Addresses Potential Angel Reese Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky have struggled with the loss of Angel Reese. Chicago has been playing without Reese since late July because of back issues. Her last game appearance was July 29 against Washington. While she found success under coach Tyler Marsh this year, the injury setback has significantly curtailed Reese's second season. Ahead of the Sky's game against the Connecticut Sun, Marsh was asked if there had been discussions about shutting Reese down for the rest of the season given how far out of a playoff spot but how close to the No. 1 pick in next year's draft the team is with a dozen games remaining. "I'd leave that to the medical staff," Marsh said. "For us and for Angel, if she's healthy and she wants to play and we want her to be out there, to be able to play. We don't want to put her in harm's way to further any existing injuries. For us it's just making sure that she's as healthy as possible. That's always been the most important thing. With the games remaining when she's ready to go then she will be out there." Angel Reese made the All-Star team for the second straight year and continued to establish herself as one of the best forwards in the WNBA. She is widely regarded as the most versatile player on the Chicago Sky roster. Throughout her second season in the WNBA, Reese has averaged 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for the Chicago Sky. Reese was averaging a double-double and poised for her second straight season accomplishing that feat. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Both players are sidelined due to injury, but it was clear at the beginning of the season that they have permanently emerged as stars in the league. The Indiana Fever guard and Chicago Sky forward proved to be consistent contributors, following historic rookie years for both players. While they heal through their current injuries, Clark with a groin injury and Reese with a back injury, they received big news outside of the playing field. In the video game atmosphere, Clark and Reese received their newest NBA2K26 WNBA Edition ratings. Clark received a rating of a 96 overall while Reese earned an overall rating of 90. Clark was ranked as the No. 4 player in the league rankings, and Reese was listed as No. 10. Caitlin Clark has posted 16.5 points, 5 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game in the 13 contests she has played with the Fever. Clark began the season on a tear under head coach Stephanie White. Clemson Star's Stunning Body Scan and 40 Time Spark National Buzz
Clemson Star's Stunning Body Scan and 40 Time Spark National Buzz originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Every year, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX releases one of college football's most anticipated preseason traditions — the Freaks List, highlighting the nation's most physically gifted players. This year, Clemson's Peter Woods didn't just make the cut. He dominated it. Woods landed at No. 5 on Feldman's 2025 Freaks List, earning the recognition thanks to his elite combination of size, strength, and explosiveness that's left coaches, scouts, and even Feldman himself in awe. At 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, Woods registered 240 pounds of lean muscle in a recent body composition scan — an absurd 77 percent. He also ran a blazing 4.86-second 40-yard dash, vertical jumped 33 inches, bench pressed 490 pounds, and threw up 34 reps of 225 on the bench press. Oh, and he squatted 700 pounds and power cleaned 385. For a 300-plus pound lineman, those are video game numbers. 'He's special,' Feldman wrote. 'Don't be surprised if Woods ends up as a top-5 NFL Draft pick when he leaves Clemson.' Woods has backed up his athletic traits with strong production. After a Freshman All-American season in 2023, he split time between defensive end and tackle in 2024, tallying 32 tackles (8.5 for loss), three sacks, and a forced fumble in 11 games. He even played fullback in Clemson's jumbo offensive package. From winning four state titles in Alabama to becoming one of Dabo Swinney's most dominant defensive weapons, Woods continues to grow into a national star. With another season ahead in Death Valley, he's on track to become one of the top defensive players in the country — and a future early first-round NFL Draft pick.
