Leira celebrates 25 years in footwear with new website launch

Fashion Network18-07-2025
Marking 25 years in the business, Portuguese footwear brand Leira has unveiled a new website—developed with Felgueiras Magazine Soluções Web—to showcase its craftsmanship, values, and growing global presence.
Based in Felgueiras, a city renowned as one of Portugal's leading footwear manufacturing hubs, Leira has established a reputation over the past two decades for its commitment to craftsmanship, tradition, and sustainable practices. The new platform—available at Leira.pt—aims to reflect the company's core values while showcasing its evolution and ambition to expand further in international markets.
'With an elegant design, intuitive navigation, and carefully crafted content, the website aims to strengthen the connection between the brand and its customers, partners, and wider community,' Felgueiras Magazine said in a statement.
Leira's CEO, Isabel Teixeira, described the digital launch as a significant milestone.
'We wanted a website that truly reflects who we are—simple, genuine, and crafted with care,' said CEO Isabel Teixeira. 'It needed to mirror our approach: thoughtful, responsible, and rooted in a deep respect for craftsmanship.'
She added, 'After 25 years, this platform lets us present who we are today while remaining open to new ideas and challenges. It's our way of welcoming others and sharing what drives us.'
The website outlines Leira's mission: to deliver strong footwear collections that meet current market demands while upholding the company's values of precision, confidentiality, and fair pricing. At its foundation is a long-term vision rooted in trust-based partnerships and collaborative growth.
With a skilled team, modern production facilities, and a commitment to detail, Leira has grown into a trusted partner for global brands. Today, more than 95% of its production is exported, underscoring its ability to consistently deliver international-quality footwear.

Portugal's Joao Felix joins Ronaldo at Al Nassr in Saudi

Felix, now 25, made a blockbuster move from Benfica to Atletico Madrid in 2019, but has since seen his fortunes decline. "I'm here to spread joy. Let's win together," said Felix in a video posted on the Riyadh club's X account. A separate post said he had signed until 2027. Felix remains one of the most expensive transfers in history, following his move to Atletico for 127.7 million euros ($147.3 million) six years ago. He has since failed to score more than 10 goals a season, despite stints at Barcelona, AC Milan and Chelsea. According to Arryadia, a Riyadh sports newspaper, Felix will earn $10 million a year. Saudi Arabia has shaken up football by spending heavily on stars from Europe, starting with Ronaldo's arrival in 2023, and the conservative desert nation will host the World Cup in 2034. Many of the signings have been ageing stars, but Felix bucks the trend along with Mateo Retegui, 26, the Serie A top-scorer who joined Al Qadsiah last week. French international Theo Hernandez, 27, left AC Milan for Al Hilal in a reported $29 million deal earlier this month. Top coaches have also been lured to Saudi Arabia, including Italy's Simone Inzaghi who led Al Hilal to an upset win over Manchester City at the Club World Cup. At Al Nassr, Felix will be working under Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, who was sacked by Al Hilal in May following their defeat in the Asian Champions League semi-finals.

Louboutin continues to expand in Portugal with two more private villas in Melides

Two years after the opening of his boutique hotel Vermelho, a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux network, Franco-Egyptian shoe designer Christian Louboutin is back in Melides, where he has just launched two private luxury villas, La Salvada and La Maison des Bateaux, for temporary rental. These secret villa s on the Alentejo coast, with their unique architecture and decoration, the first of which had already reported on as a guest house for a select few, enjoy all the "wicked refinements" of an exclusive and paradisiacal refuge. After the opening of Vermelho, the French footwear designer known for his red-soled shoes, presents two new private homes in Melides. La Salvada and La Maison des Bateaux can now be rented, mirroring the exclusivity of design and architecture inspired by North Africa and also by the works of Mexican Luis Barragán. La Salvada features 250 square meters spread over social areas and two suites decorated with art and personal pieces by the Franco-Egyptian designer. It has a swimming pool and open views of the sea. It costs 2,200 euros per night. La Maison des Bateaux, with 150 square meters, highlights the rustic Alentejo in a typical restored house that stands out for the eccentric textiles in the decoration with Louboutin's signature, which pays special homage to Portuguese handicrafts. It accommodates up to six people and has a deck with a swimming pool facing the rice fields. The price starts at 1,700 euros per night. Breakfast for two nights is served at Hotel Vermelho, and it is also possible to request a private chef, room service, or personal shopper. According to Vera Gonçalves, the hotel's general manager: "These two villas are private design and decoration projects, which initially had no commercial purpose. The opening of these villas represents the opening of doors to the private world of Christian Louboutin, reinforcing the Vermelho brand as a symbol of creativity, authenticity, and exclusivity, always respecting what Melides has best to offer, its unparalleled natural beauty," she explained to Executive Digest.

Portugal's ISTO gets new backer, plans London store within a year

Portuguese fashion label ISTO has announced a strategic partnership with investment and operational firm Altaz Capital. Altaz, which was founded only this year, specialises in supply chain optimisation, operations, logistics, international expansion, and financial strategy, will support the firm's 'measured growth' based on its international expansion plan. That plan includes global growth including the aim of opening a store in London in the next eight-to-12 months. The partnership is effective immediately, with joint initiatives already under way to enhance the brand's operations and strengthen its financial foundations. The eight-year-old menswear label said the link-up 'marks a significant step' in its 'mission to build a globally recognised brand through steady, sustainable growth rather than rapid, unsustainable scale'. It added that both companies share a belief that 'doing the right thing takes time, hard work, and risk' and have come together to blend ISTO's 'commitment to timeless design made in Portugal and transparency with Altaz Capital's operational expertise and hands-on approach'. Brand co-founder and CEO Pedro Palha explained: 'As we thought about ISTO's next step we wanted to ensure we had the right expertise and partners who'd work alongside us daily. Altaz Capital is exactly that kind of partner. Their team brings a global background and connections, with a critical know-how in strategy, operations, and finance, which will help us strengthen our foundation and grow internationally at the right pace.' Lisbon-based ISTO has a belief in 'radical transparency, timeless product design, and 100% Portuguese production'. It said it's 'determined to scale without compromising its values, focusing on long-term relationships with suppliers, partners, and customers'. Altaz is known for working co-operatively with companies 'to implement solutions rather than just funding them', we're told and managing partner Sérgio Massano hailed ISTO's 'focus on product excellence and innovation'. He added that the partnership 'reflects our confidence in ISTO's team and our belief in the brand's potential for significant global expansion'. As part of the agreement, Massano joins Pedro Palha and Pedro Gaspar's leadership as a managing partner and André Flórido takes the role of CFO.
