LeBron James Uses Michael Jordan Example to Argue NBA Is ‘Best It's Ever Been'
Over the past two decades, the NBA has seen a change in how superstar-level players contribute to their teams, and no one knows that better than Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

The 40-year-old started his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers as primarily a scorer. However, he slowly began to develop his playmaking and rebounding, which led to some other players shifting their playstyles to become more well-rounded.
Furthermore, James thinks this trend has made the NBA 'the greatest it's ever been,' and former All-Star guard Steve Nash agrees.
'The pace and space era and a lot of threes,' Nash said next to James during a live episode of their 'Mind the Game' podcast at Fanatics Fest in late June. 'Well, the reality is that's not going away, and we're stretching the floor and playing at our own pace.'

Meanwhile, James credits the development of playmaking with helping the NBA become what it is today. He also pointed out that it's a drastic difference from the 1990s, when Michael Jordan was one of the only players who was able to be a strong scorer and playmaker.
'In the 1995 season and out of the points per game leaders, there's only one guy in the top five of assists, and that was Michael Jordan,' James said to Nash. 'Now you look at it 25 to 30 years later, out of the top 10 scorers, there are five in the top five of assists.'
'The playmaking, defense, different matchups and variables in our game, you see in the defensive zone, man-to-man and two-two-one press, we haven't seen. I think that's great.'

Furthermore, Nash believes James helped create this trend because of his ability to be a prolific scorer, playmaker and defender. James, the Lakers forward, has averaged more than 6.0 assists per game every season since his rookie year in 2003.
He combines that with averaging more than 6.0 rebounds per game in that same period and scoring more than 20.0 points per game in every season he's played in.

Injury report update: Indiana Fever rule Caitlin Clark out vs Liberty
With tipoff approaching, the Indiana Fever have officially ruled star point guard Caitlin Clark out of Wednesday night's game against the New York Liberty from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a right groin injury. Clark was initially listed as questionable in the Fever's first injury report update on Wednesday. Including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game, Clark is now set to miss her 11th contest this season. The 6-foot Fever guard missed five games from May 28-June 10 with a left quadriceps injury. Clark missed five more games with a left groin injury from June 26-July 5. Prior to her absences this season, Clark had played in 185 straight games across her college career at Iowa and the start of her WNBA career with the Fever. Clark missing Wednesday night's contest against the Liberty would seemingly put her status for WNBA All-Star Weekend in jeopardy. Clark is scheduled to take part in the WNBA 3-Point Contest on Friday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as part of All-Star Weekend. Clark is also one of the team captains for the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Clark finished Tuesday night's win with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal on a 4-of-14 shooting effort, including 1-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Fever head coach Stephanie White commented on Clark's right groin injury after Indiana's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday evening. 'We just take it one step at a time,' White said. 'She's being evaluated. We'll see where we are with that. Certainly, we'll probably have another evaluation and conversation (Wednesday) and see where we are. This group has played without her. Thunder owner Clay Bennett releases statement after new OKC arena renderings released
The new home of the Oklahoma City Thunder took the next step on Wednesday. Nearly two years after being voted in, the State of the City address concluded with the first renderings of downtown OKC's new arena that'll open in three years. OKC Mayor David Holt and Architect David Manica presented the first renderings of OKC's new arena, which is set to open in 2028. The construction cost is $900 million. Several photos and videos demonstrated the interior and exterior of the building. Paycom Center will remain the Thunder's NBA arena for three seasons. The 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons will be the arena's last years. The new OKC arena will have a different name as Paycom will retire its naming rights once the current arena is shut down. The Thunder have played at Paycom Center since their relocation from Seattle in 2008. The arena opened in 2002 and is one of the smaller NBA homes. It was formerly known as the Chesapeake Energy Arena before being rebranded as Paycom Center in 2021. Once the new OKC arena opens, the Thunder will sign a lease that will keep the NBA franchise there through 2053. A new home is the type of long-term security needed to ensure the Thunder remain in Oklahoma City. Thunder owner Clay Bennett released a statement on the groundbreaking next step. The new OKC arena will be built next to Paycom Center over the next three years. Bennett helped move the NBA franchise to OKC. He serves as the chairman of the Professional Basketball Club, LLC. 'The journey to build a unique and transformative downtown landmark has taken a significant step forward with the unveiling of this preliminary conceptual design,' Bennett wrote in a statement. 'We are incredibly grateful to Mayor Holt for his leadership and to David Manica and his team who have done a remarkable job capturing our vision for an arena that elevates the spirit of competition, celebrates the values of our community, and strengthens Oklahoma City's local and global identity.' Such an achievement is worth hearing from Bennett, who usually stays behind the scenes. He's allowed Thunder GM Sam Presti to build up a contender and has enjoyed the fruits of their work with an NBA championship. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren all signed long-term extensions this offseason to keep them in OKC when the new arena opens.
