‘Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular' arrives in Singapore in March 2026
We've already welcomed an incredible line-up of musicals to our shores – from Wicked to The Phantom of the Opera, and Beauty and the Beast arriving this December. Now, musical lovers have yet another reason to rejoice: Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular is coming to Singapore in March 2026, with performances set to take place at Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands.
This production is part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Les Misérables as the world's longest-running musical. It is described as an expanded version of Les Misérables The Staged Concert, and promises a breathtaking reimagining of the iconic musical. Expect a brand-new set design created for large-scale venues, and a powerhouse ensemble of over 65 performers, including cast and orchestra.
Behind the production is producer Cameron Mackintosh, known for hit musicals like Cats, Oliver! and Mary Poppins, in collaboration with Nick Grace Management. It is written by the acclaimed duo Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, also known for their work on Miss Saigon and The Pirate Queen. The full cast list is still under wraps and will be revealed in the months ahead.
If you've dreamed of witnessing this masterpiece live on stage, now's your chance. The ticket waitlist is currently open via Base Entertainment's website and will close on June 22, 2025 at 11.59pm. UOB and Klook priority access begins on June 23 at 10am. Those on the waitlist and UOB cardholders can purchase tickets from June 24, 10am. The public early bird sale launches on June 26 at 10am, followed by general ticket sales from July 1, 10am.

In Washington, DC, on Wednesday night, Trump, 78, was among the guests at the Kennedy Centre for the performing arts, marking the first time the President had attended the event since his election in 2024. It was reported that at least 10 cast members opted out of performing as a way to boycott his attendance, meaning that understudies were likely called upon to step in. When asked about this form of defiance from the cast, Trump responded that he was unbothered. 'I couldn't care less. Honestly, I couldn't,' said Trump. 'All I do is run the country well.' When the boycott was first discussed in May, Kennedy Center director Richard Grenell said the move was 'vapid and intolerant'. 'Any performer who isn't professional enough to perform for patrons of all backgrounds, regardless of political affiliation, won't be welcomed,' said Grennell to CNN. 'In fact, we think it would be important to out those vapid and intolerant artists to ensure producers know who they shouldn't hire – and that the public knows which shows have political litmus tests to sit in the audience. 'The Kennedy Center wants to be a place where people of all political stripes sit next to each other and never ask who someone voted for but instead enjoys a performance together.' Drag Queens also appeared in the crowd, their presence was a silent protest against Trump's claims that the Center had hosted an excessive number of drag shows in the past. I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture. A response from the Kennedy Center at the time revealed that they had not received any communication from the White House about this, but were aware some members of their board had received termination notices. There is nothing in the Center's statute that would prevent a new administration from replacing board members; however, this would be the first time such action has been taken with the Kennedy Center's board.' 'I've seen it, we've seen it, a number of times, it's fantastic. It was just about our first choice. That's what we got and we've got other ones coming, other great ones coming,' Trump said. Despite being a huge fan, the President was unable to answer basic questions about the plot, like whether he found himself relating to the villain or the hero of the play. The reporter asked the President if he felt more aligned with the ruthless Inspector Javert, or Jean Valjean, the former convict mercilessly hunted down by Javert for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family. 'Oh, that's a tough one, the last part of that question, that's tough, I think,' Trump said with a laugh. 'You better answer that one honey, I don't know.' A slew of famous faces and political figures descended upon the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening for the opening night of Les Misérables. The star-studded guest list certainly did not disappoint, with President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and his spouse, Usha Vance, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his partner, Cheryl Hines, all gathering to watch the iconic musical. Many of them did not disappoint with their looks, turning heads on the red carpet with glamorous dresses or handsome tuxedos. Some, however, completely missed the mark with their ensembles, arriving in eyebrow-raising outfits. From bizarre feathers to frumpy frocks, the event was filled with both fashion wins and sartorial nightmares. Donald, 78, kept it classy as he opted for a simple, black tuxedo as he arrived holding hands with Melania. The First Lady, 55, for her part, donned a $3,900 black Bottega Veneta dress that contained a conservative neckline and gold embellishments on her hip and shoulders. She exuded elegance and glamour in the chic gown, which she paired with silver and bronze striped Christian Louboutin heels, which usually sell for around $1,000. Vice President JD Vance also wore a tuxedo but in a navy blue. As for his wife, Usha Vance, she opted for a $635 Shoshanna strapless dark blue gown that contained a white stripe that went around her midriff area and down the skirt. Fashion designer Pamella Roland DeVos and her businessman husband Daniel DeVos were also in attendance. She arrived in a fiery red gown that contained dramatic shoulder embellishments and had long pieces of fabric that hung to the ground. Daniel, on the other hand, kept it effortless in a black suit. Donald and Melania's appearance at the play brought some controversy with it, as it was reported that some of the play's cast members were boycotting. When asked about it outside the event, Donald stated defiantly, 'I couldn't care less. Honestly, I couldn't. All I do is run the country well.' When the Trumps entered the theater, there were cheers and applause and a USA chant - and also some boos. It comes after Donald announced that he would be firing the board of the Kennedy Center - named for the late Democratic president - and naming himself chairman.

Singapore's grandest library has Roman columns and a high domed ceiling – and yes, it's open to the public
It brings to mind Beauty and the Beast with its multitude of towering Roman columns, high domed ceiling lined with arched windows, and rustic wooden desks that are uniquely curved to create a circular formation in the middle of the room – but you won't find this grand library anywhere in Europe. Instead, you might be surprised to learn that it's sitting hidden within plain sight at Singapore's very own National Gallery, the biggest arts and culture museum in the city. See also: Geneo, a new mall and lifestyle hub in Singapore with unique European cathedral-inspired architecture Unlike most other public libraries in Singapore, the Rotunda Library & Archive isn't part of the National Library Board (NLB), but rather fully owned by the museum itself. Don't expect to see children's picture books or steamy romance fiction novels here – its vast collection contains art journals, diaries full of sketches and photos, research material, and archives from Singapore and the region dating back to as early as the 19th century. Safe to say, you won't find the same sort of rare historic reads at your everyday neighbourhood library. Even if diving deep into the history of Southeast Asian art isn't really up your alley, this two-storey library annexe is a gorgeous work of art in itself that's worth marvelling at. There's even a sliding ladder that you can use to reach the volumes on the higher shelves – cue Belle in that bookshop ladder scene – a rare sight in Singapore's libraries save for Library@Orchard, which is currently closed till 2026 for a revamp. If you've attended past editions of annual light festival Light To Night, you might have entered the Rotunda to watch kaleidoscopic projections being cast onto its high domed ceiling past nightfall. But during quieter daytime hours, this library has a whole different vibe – one that feels almost sacred, with beams of sunlight streaming through the windows and warmly enveloping the pristine white interiors. Other than the communal circle of desks in the middle, there are also little reading nooks in various corners of this majestic-looking space. You're free to bury your nose into all the titles on the shelves to your heart's content, but since the Rotunda Library is a non-lending reference library, you won't be able to loan them out of the premises. Book-lovers will be thrilled to know that entry to the Rotunda Library & Archive is free-of-charge, and tickets to the National Gallery are not required. There's just one little catch: the library is only open weekdays from 10am to 12.30pm, and 2pm to 5pm, with the exception of public holidays, so those on a standard five-day office work week will only be able to visit on a day off.
