Sen. Cory Booker roasted by pundits who accuse him of making Nazi salute at political event

New York Post2 days ago

Right-wing pundits ripped New Jersey Senator Cory Booker for making a gesture that they likened Nazi salute at the conclusion of a speech Saturday night — and compared it to the move Elon Musk made that was ripped by liberals.
The Garden State Democrat made the gesture at a Democratic convention in California — placing his hand over his heart and then gesturing to the crowd with a straight arm and an open hand above shoulder height.
Internet influencers were quick to jump on Booker's salute, and wonder where the outrage is when there was so much criticism by Booker's fellow Democrats and others on the left of Musk.

'If Elon Musk is a Nazi for doing this gesture.. Cory Booker is one too. Sorry, I don't make the rules,' one viral post read.
'Cory Booker did the thing. This is literally the Third Reich all over again. These are the darkest days ever. Democracy is doomed,' one user wrote sarcastically in a viral post.
Some X users were more pointed in their criticism of the differing receptions Booker's and Musk's gestures each garnered from the pundit class.
'Same gesture. Different political party. Funny how that works,' Brandon Straka, founder of the Walk Away movement, wrote on X.
'This better be a national story for the next week!,' another X poster joked.

Former DOGE chief and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk infamously made a remarkably similar gesture at an inauguration celebration at the Capital One Arena back in January.
'Thank you for making it happen. Thank you, my heart goes out to you,' Musk said, placing his hand over his heart and then extending his arm to the crowd.
Despite widespread public outcry over one-armed gesture's similarity to the Hitler salute, prominent figures in the Jewish community rose to Musk's defense.
'It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge,' antisemitism watchdog the ADL wrote on X at the time.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote supportively on X, '@elonmusk is being falsely smeared. Elon is a great friend of Israel.'

Rep. Jerry Nadler wants House probe after DHS handcuffs aide in N.Y. office

June 2 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler said Monday he wants a congressional investigation after a Department of Homeland Security officer handcuffed a staff member at the Democrat's office in New York in the same building as immigration court. Nadler told CNN he will send House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a letter requesting an investigation and hearing into the matter, including testimony from HHS Secretary Kristi Noem. Nadler is a former chairman of that committee. On Wednesday, activists were protesting outside the Varick Immigration Court on a different floor of Nadler's office in opposition to the detention of migrants by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Nadler posted Sunday on X that President Donald Trump and DHS "are sowing chaos in our communities, using intimidation tactics against both citizens and non-citizens in a reckless and dangerous manner. In the most recent and deeply troubling incident, DHS agents forcefully entered my Congressional office and handcuffed a member of my staff." He noted no arrests were made and "the situation was quickly de-escalated." But he added: "The decision to enter a Congressional office and detain a staff member demonstrated a deeply troubling disregard for proper legal boundaries. If this can happen in a Member of Congress's office, it can happen to anyone -- and it is happening." Nadler told CNN that DHS officers accused the staff members of "harboring rioters. Video taken by a person inside Nadler's office, and obtained by Gothamist, shows an aide being handcuffed by an agent with the Federal Protective Service while another agent tries to access an area inside the office. A second staffer stands in front of the agent and asks if he has a warrant. "You're harboring rioters in the office," the federal agent told her. The handcuffed aide is heard crying while someone tries to comfort her. DHS was "upset that some of my staff members were watching them grab immigrants emerging from an immigration court in the same building," Nadler told CNN. HHS posted Monday on X that officers "responded to information that protesters were present" inside Nadler's office in Manhattan. "Based on earlier incidents in a nearby facility, FPS were concerned about the safety of the federal employees in the office and went to the location to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those present," HHS said. "Upon arrival, officers were granted entry and encountered four individuals,. Officers identified themselves and explained their intent to conduct a security check, however, one individual became verbally confrontational and physically blocked access to the office. The officers then detained the individual in the hallway for the purpose of completing the security check." HHS said all were released without "further incident." U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver, a Democrat serving a district in New Jersey, was charged with assaulting ICE officers on May 19 during her visit to Delancey Hall ICE detention prison in Newark, N.J., on May 9.

Rep. Eric Swalwell Inspires MAGA Tizzy Fit By... Eating A Taco

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) trolled the hell out of Donald Trump and his supporters this past weekend just by eating a taco on TikTok. The California Democrat posted a video of himself sitting in his office when someone walks up and asks, 'Hey, Congressman, what the fuck is up with Trump always chickening out on tariffs?' Swalwell responds by biting into a Taco Bell crunchy taco that just happens to be sitting on his desk. The video alludes to TACO, or 'Trump Always Chickens Out,' a reference to the president's tendency to announce huge tariffs, only to reverse course days later. The notoriously thin-skinned president doesn't seem fond of the acronym and chewed out a reporter for asking 'a nasty question' about it last week. Swalwell's taco TikTok made quite an impact with conservatives. Some suggested the video was part of the Democratic National Committee's plan to attract more male voters to the party. MEN? Eric Swalwell is kicking off the Democrat's $20 million effort to attract young men to the party. What do you say guys? Want to share a taco with Eric? — @amuse (@amuse) June 2, 2025 Fox News' 'Outnumbered' even did a segment on it. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) attempts to troll President Trump over his tariff policies by eating a this video win over more voters for the Democratic party? — Outnumbered (@OutnumberedFNC) June 2, 2025 Swalwell seemed amused by the attention, tweeting, 'I don't know what this Fox News lady ate for lunch, but she's talking about what I had.' Other Trump supporters got into a MAGA tizzy over Swalwell's video. Eric Swalwell is a fucking idiot. He thinks eating a taco supreme crunchy at that effect's president Trump. The Democrats have lost their fucking minds. They're idiots. They lie and they're out of control. — Foxwatcher@ (@ArmyMosher4) June 2, 2025 Eric Swalwell is as fake (and as carcinogenic) as the "meat" in that Taco Bell. — Chesty (@ChestyPullerGst) June 2, 2025 Pretty brave of Swalwell to eat Taco Bell while being filmed for a video 🤣 Wonder how many takes they had to do 💀 — Sara Rose 🇺🇸🌹 (@saras76) June 2, 2025 A couple of right-wing outlets, probably well aware of the trending term, apparently decided that feigning ignorance was the right way to go. VERY ODD: Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell posts a video using the f-word while he eats a tacoWhat was the point of this??? — TheBlaze (@theblaze) June 2, 2025 Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA) posts a bizarre video on social media where the person recording drops the f-bomb, and the Congressmen silently eats a taco. Cameraman: What the f*ck is up with Trump always chickening out on tariffs?' Swalwell: *Eats a taco — RedWave Press (@RedWave_Press) June 2, 2025 Others felt obliged to reference an MSNBC interview between Swalwell and Chris Matthews from November 2019, in which a fart sound could be heard at one point. Eric Swalwell is the absolute last person who should be eating Taco Bell, especially in an enclosed space. — JawjaJim 🇺🇸 (@JimJawja) June 2, 2025 For the sake of all mankind, let's hope that Eric Swalwell did NOT eat refried beans with that taco. — Soquel by the Creek (@SoquelCreek) June 2, 2025 Although Trump supporters tried to dismiss the trolling, 'Trump Always Chickens Out' is catching on, according to one conservative thought leader. Rick Lowry of the National Review appeared on Fox News Sunday and admitted 'TACO' is sticking, much to Trump's chagrin. 'Apparently, Trump was irritated in part because he hadn't heard it, and afterwards was irked with his aides not telling him about this,' Lowry said, before admitting that the 'TACO' insult is 'catchy, kind of funny and gets to a real phenomenon with the tariffs, which [is that] he's backed off them.' Oregon Senate passes bump stock ban, allows expansion of gun-free zones

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A gun safety bill is making its way through the Oregon legislature, which would ban bump stocks and allow local governments to decide whether to allow firearms in public meeting spaces. The Oregon Senate passed — the Community Safety Firearms Act — on Thursday, which would create new crimes for possessing bump stocks — or devices that turn semi-automatic guns fully automatic. Under the bill, local governments would also have the authority to limit concealed handgun license holders from bringing firearms in public buildings where official meetings are held, such as city halls. 'Something was not right': Oregon Coast safari park received complaints for nearly a decade Following the bill's passage, Oregon Senate Democrats said the legislation marks 'action for community safety.' 'Being elected to serve means guarding the people who put their trust in us: protecting their safety, defending their rights, and leading with humility and common sense,' said Senator Anthony Broadman (D –Bend). 'As a father, a hunter, a responsible gun owner, and an Oregon Senator, I know Senate Bill 243 honors that responsibility.' 'Rapid-fire activators are simply tools of mass destruction and do not belong in our communities,' added Sen. Floyd Prozanski (D –Eugene & Springfield), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and chief sponsor of the bill. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'It's time to call these devices what they are. They give legal firearms the same dangerous abilities as machine guns,' said Senator Lisa Reynolds (D –Portland). 'If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a machine gun.' The bill passed the Senate in a 17-12 vote along party lines, with the Oregon Senate Republican Caucus calling the legislation 'deeply flawed.' 'The people who follow the law deserve policies that respect them. The people who break the law deserve consequences,' said Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham (R-The Dalles). 'Senate Bill 243 targets responsible Oregonians, not criminals. That's a mistake we've made before. We should learn from it, not double down on it.' Candlelight vigil marks 15th anniversary of Kyron Horman's disappearance According to the Senate Republican Caucus, 'there is no credible evidence' that banning bump stocks will reduce gun violence. 'This bill does not address the core issues driving gun violence in our communities,' said Senator Bruce Starr (R-Dundee). 'It doesn't target criminals. It doesn't invest in mental health or illegal gun trafficking enforcement. Instead, it creates new penalties for responsible gun owners who already follow the law, store their firearms safely, and have undergone background checks.' The Republican caucus noted they offered their own proposals in a minority report, which was rejected by Democrats. Kohr Explores: Salmon fishing season arrives in Oregon The proposals from Republicans included repealing , a bill from 2021 that allows school districts and local governments to decide whether to allow concealed handgun license holders to bring firearms into public buildings. Other proposals from the Republican caucus included preventing people who have been charged with drug-related misdemeanors from owning guns along with another provision requiring participants in deflection programs to transfer their firearms to a law enforcement agency, a gun dealer or a third party until their deflection program is completed. After passing the Senate on Thursday, the bill moves to the Oregon House of Representatives, where the bill will have its first reading on June 2. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
