LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Alexis Marmolejos scored 17 points and Adam Hamilton sealed it with a layup with 44 seconds remaining and Lamar rallied to beat Nicholls State 58-55 on Tuesday in a Southland Conference Tournament semifinal game.
Second-seeded Lamar (20-12) faces top-seed McNeese in the championship game on Wednesday.
Marmolejos also contributed five steals for the Cardinals. Danquez Dawsey scored 11 points while shooting 3 for 7 (1 for 4 from 3-point range) and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
Robert Brown III finished with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals for the Colonels (20-13). Nicholls State also got 14 points and three steals from Jaylen Searles.
Marmolejos scored seven points in the first half and Lamar went into the break trailing 33-28. Marmolejos scored 10 points in the second half.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw takes issue with Cardinals' pregame antics before start
Los Angeles Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw hurled a gem against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday as the team picked up a 7-3 victory. The veteran pitcher went five innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out seven. He only threw 82 pitches and picked up the first winning decision of the year. Kershaw expressed after the game he was a bit upset with the Cardinals going into the matchup. The Cardinals played Matt Adams' clutch home run off Kershaw in the 2014 National League Division Series on a loop before the game began at Busch Stadium. It wasn't Kershaw's finest moment for the Dodgers but the team playing the moment from more than 10 years ago appeared to irk the pitcher. "I think it's a little bush league, but I don't expect anything less from these guys. So, it's no worries," he told Kershaw was the National League MVP and Cy Young Award winner during the 2014 season. More than 10 years later, he's still going strong for the Dodgers though the expectations are a bit different. He's started five games this season for the Dodgers and has a 4.35 ERA with 15 strikeouts. He was last an All-Star in 2023. He missed most of the 2024 season with various injuries. Los Angeles improved to 39-27 with the win over St. Louis. The defending World Series champions a game ahead of the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants in the National League West division. Cavaliers' Darius Garland has surgery on the injured left big toe that hampered him during playoffs
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Cavaliers guard Darius Garland had surgery Monday on the injured left big toe that hampered him during Cleveland's exit from the playoffs. The Cavaliers said the procedure was performed by Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, in consultation with team physician Dr. James Rosneck and Dr. Bob Anderson. The All-Star guard missed the final two games of the regular season and four games during the playoffs with the injury, which was described as a sprain. 'Definitely wasn't myself. It was pretty uncomfortable but trying to do everything to win the game. It was frustrating because I wasn't 100 percent,' Garland said after the Cavaliers lost to the Indiana Pacers in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Garland is expected to send 4 to 5 months going through a progression of treatment and rehabilitation before resuming basketball activities by the start of training camp. Garland averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists during the regular season to help the Cavs finish atop the Eastern Conference.
