Fake police station busted in Bihar days after ASI held with sophisticated weapons
PATNA: A group of fraudsters operated a fake police station for nearly a year from a government school building in Bihar's Purnea district. The racket surfaced shortly after a suspended ASI was arrested in Samastipur with sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47, Insas rifle, and a carbine. The alleged mastermind, Rahul Kumar Sah, has been absconding since the fake police station in Mohani village under Kasba police limits was exposed on Monday. Purnea SP Kartikey Sharma said a special police team has been formed to investigate the case. According to police, Sah posed as a recruiter for the Gramin Raksha Dal, charging local youth between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000 for supposed appointments as constables and chowkidars. After enrolling them, he handed out police uniforms, batons, and fake identity cards, and assigned them tasks, including vehicle checks and raids targeting liquor smugglers. Once recruited, they were instructed to carry out vehicle checking at different locations and fine motorists Rs 400 for infractions such as not wearing helmets or carrying a driving licence. Rs 200 went to the patrol team as commission, and the remainder was pocketed by Sah. 'Rahul told us the rest of the money was going into the government treasury,' one of the victims told senior police officers.

Brussels/New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is visiting Brussels, today met the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Belgium Maxime Prevot, during which he welcomed Belgium's support and solidarity with India in combatting terrorism. In a post on X, the EAM also said that he appreciated the strong momentum of the bilateral engagement and the India-EU partnership. 'Pleased to meet DPM & FM @prevotmaxime at the start of my visit to Belgium. 'Welcomed Belgium's support and solidarity in combatting terrorism. 'Appreciated the strong momentum of our bilateral engagement and the India - EU partnership. 'Also held wide - ranging discussions on deepening our cooperation including in trade, investment, technology, defence & security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and mobility.' Besides meeting the DPM and FM Maxime Prevot, EAM would also meet the senior leadership of Belgium and interact with the members of the Indian community. The visit of the EAM to Brussels comes three months after the visit to India of Princess Astrid of Belgium, who had come at the head of a 300-member economic mission to India, and had held talks with PM Modi and the EAM. Princess Astrid's team had comprised Foreign minister Maxime Prévot, Defence Minister Theo Francken, Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele and Belgian ambassador Didier Vanderhasselt. The two sides had discussed a wide range of issues during the meeting in March with PM Modi, including labour migration, pharmaceuticals, defence, diamonds, space exploration and green energy. Interestingly, EAM's visit comes as fugitive Indian diamantaire Mehul Choksi, wanted in the PNB loan fraud case, is currently in a Belgian jail. He was arrested in mid-April on India's extradition request. India has an extradition treaty with Belgium. Choksi, 65, along with his nephew Nirav Modi—who is in London awaiting extradition—is accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank (PNB) of Rs 13,850 crore. 'Sensed Danger': Raja's Mother Says Sonam Asked Him To Wear Rs 10 Lakh Gold For Honeymoon
Last Updated: Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi's mother said his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi planned the trip to Meghalaya for their honeymoon, but did not book the return ticket The mother of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered in Meghalaya, on Monday claimed that his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi asked him to wear gold jewellery worth more than Rs 10 lakh on their honeymoon trip. Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed by men, hired by his wife Sonam, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, police said. Raja's mother Uma Raghuvanshi said Sonam planned the trip to the northeastern state, but did not book the return ticket. She said the couple had an arranged marriage and her behaviour was good with their family, so they never doubted her. According to officials, the couple left for their honeymoon trip wearing all their gold jewellery. Raja was reportedly wearing gold, including a diamond ring, a chain, and a bracelet, worth more than Rs 10 lakh. Uma said when Raja told her about wearing a chain, she sensed danger. 'I asked Raja why he is wearing the chain, he said Sonam asked him so. I sensed danger. There might be some planning…Her behaviour was good; I cannot believe how she did something like this," she told news agency ANI. Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang told PTI that Sonam surrendered before the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, while three other accused were arrested in overnight raids. Of the three arrested men, two are from Indore and one from Lalitpur in UP, the officer said. One more person was arrested from MP's Sagar district, said East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem. After their marriage on May 11, Raja and Sonam left for Meghalaya on May 20. They went missing while vacationing in Sohra area in East Khasi Hills district on May 23. Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2. Uma Raghuvanshi said she was shocked to see Sonam's latest picture because there was not even a scratch mark on her. She said if her daughter-in-law got her son killed, then she should be hanged. 'I tell my son's photo that whoever did wrong to him should be punished. I want to hear from Sonam, where, why and in what condition she left Raja. If Sonam is involved, she should be hanged…I want the three men caught to be interrogated," she said. The mother further claimed that after the couple's engagement, Sonam did not spend enough time with Raja and avoided going out with him before marriage. 'When we had asked Sonam about this, she said she has a lot of work to do in the office. Sonam said if she is not able to call my son, then my son can also call her," she said. 'Sonam's mother had told me that her family is very strict against a man and a woman meeting before marriage and Sonam's father does not like such meetings." She said Raja and Sonam's wedding was held in a traditional way with the consent of the couple and both the families. 'My son was very happy after the marriage. He wanted Sonam as his wife from the bottom of his heart. We still cannot believe that she could get her husband killed. It would have been better if my son had remained unmarried as it could have saved his life," she said. First Published: June 09, 2025, 19:48 IST
