Boy, 2, horrifically-injured after father took him on theme park rollercoaster ride in Uruguay
The incident took place Saturday when the Gusano Manzana [Apple Worm] ride turned a corner at the Parque Rodó amusement park in the capital city of Montevideo.
The child, whose name was not released, was sitting on the lap of his 67-year-old father before he crashed to the ground.
Video footage filmed by a man accompanying his son showed the boy's father stand up from the seat and look down.
The concerned father then disappears from the view of the camera before the man who was recording the ride said, 'Oh, a person fell.'
The ride then came to a full stop and a woman could be heard in the background shouting, 'Stop, stop, a child fell.'
Alejandro Montero, an off-duty nurse who was visiting the park with his family, was the first person who rushed to help the child and his father.
'I saw this person on the floor trying to get up, which he couldn't, and there was someone else watching him,' Montero told Teledoce television.
'I went in, approached this man, and the first thing I did was immobilize him. It was the right thing to do as a healthcare professional. It was a fall of [nine or 13 feet] and I didn't know if he had lost consciousness or not.'
Both were rushed to a local hospital, where the child was treated for a fractured skull and remains hospitalized.
His father suffered multiple fractures and underwent surgery.
The Montevideo prosecutor's office told El Observador newspaper on Wednesday that the boy has been healing well and could be discharged in the next couple of days.
The rollercoaster was suspended by the city as part of an investigation.
Alex, one of the workers at Parque Rodo, told local television station Channel 10 that the boy's father was warned that the child could not sit on his lap before they took their spot on the Gusano Manzana.
'The adult is told that the child cannot be on the lap, it seems that once the ride is started, he puts the child back on the lap, without safety measures,' Alex said.
He explained that the ride does not feature an emergency brake system.
'If you get in and yell at me: brake for me, I can't brake it,' he said.

Fury as terrified Jewish father and his six-year-old son are 'attacked and called murderers' by enraged pro-Palestine crowd after stopping at Italian motorway service station
A furious row has erupted in Italy after a man claims he and his six-year-old son were attacked at a motorway service area by an enraged pro-Palestinian crowd. The man, who has not been named, and his son had stopped to use the facilities at the rest area while driving from Milan to their home in Paris after a holiday. They were both wearing traditional Jewish kippahs and attracted the attention of people at the services near Lainate on the main Milan-Lagi motorway. The father, who managed to capture the incident on video as he and his son were insulted and attacked, said they were both left 'terrified'. In the clip which was later uploaded to social media, a group of people can be heard shouting in Italian 'Palestina Libera '(Free Palestine)' and 'Go back home'. Others also shout in Italian 'Assassini' (murderers) while another adds: 'This isn't Gaza, here is Italy' and another can be heard shouting: 'You will go to hell sooner or later'. The man's son, can clearly be seen in the clip, and he looks on with a scared look on his face as the crowd increased their hostility At one point, the video appears to shake, as the man claims he is pushed to the floor and then kicked with the crowd demanding he delete the video. Police eventually arrived after ten minutes and the man and his son were questioned about what happened. The video was shared on several anti Semitic campaign groups, with one commentator writing:' This is how it started in the Netherlands when I was a boy in 1941. I'm seeing it happen all over again.' In an interview with Italian media, the man, named only as Eli, 52, said:' We were on our way back from a trip to Lake Maggiore and I was with my youngest son, his sister and her husband, who is Italian. 'We were driving back to Milan and then I was going to carry on back to Paris where I live and manage a clothes store. 'I was heading towards the bathroom when one of the cashiers saw me and shouted Free Palestine' and it was him who sparked everything off. 'I gestured that I couldn't speak Italian but that he should stop, and I then started to film him and at that point others joined in. 'People were shouting 'killers' and 'genocide' and I was trying to protect my young son and then tried to walk us both to the bathroom. 'When we came up the stairs from the bathroom, there was a crowd there and they told me to delete the video and started pushing me. The man – who managed to capture the incident on video as he says he and his son were insulted and attacked – said they were both left 'terrified'. 'At that point I lost sight of my son, and I thought I have to defend myself but I ended up on the ground. 'They were like animals kicking me. I couldn't see my son but fortunately a woman had taken him away and was looking after him in a corner. I saw wild animals.' When asked if he had expected something like this he said: 'Frankly, yes because of the climate of hate in Europe but I didn't expect it in Italy, I thought it was a tolerant country. 'I'm still shocked, the police questioned me for two hours after it happened and they are still investigating, things like this are happening all too frequently now. Later writing on X, Italy's deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini said:' What happened in the service area at Lainate is very serious. 'A father and his six-year-old son on holiday in Italy, attacked and insulted purely because they are Jewish, and called murderers. 'I had hoped that Jew baiting had ended with the death of Nazi fascism, it is unacceptable that in 2025 in our country it is still happening.' A spokesperson for Milan police said: Officers were called to the service area on Sunday evening (27 July) and are investigating the incident. 'CCTV from the scene has been obtained and is being examined, and also cameras in the car parking area are being looked at as some suspects went in that direction. 'We will be looking to see if any of those caught on film can be identified.'

Horror moment passenger topples over edge of infinity pool on Royal Caribbean cruise ship while trying to reach glasses
THIS is the horror moment a passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship toppled over the edge of an infinity pool while trying to reach for sunglasses. Footage shows a man leaning against the barrier of the pool before losing balance and plunging down to the bottom deck of the Icon of the Seas cruise ship. 5 5 5 He appeared to be trying to reach out for something, which was later revealed to be a pair of sunglasses. But as he lost his balance on the edge, he appeared to straighten his legs before tumbling down. According to the account that posted the clip on Instagram, the man did not sustain any injuries as he supposedly fell on the deck right below the pool. However, the infinity pool is on Deck 15 and directly below it is the Splashaway Bay children's play area on Deck 7, according to the Daily Mail. Social media users were left in utter disbelief when they watched the shocking clip. One user claimed he had been on the cruise and shared what he says actually happened. They wrote: "He feel into a space not open to the public. "If he had fallen over the railing, he would have fallen to deck 5 in the kids splash area. That's 10 decks below! "He was confined to his room after the incident and not let out until arriving back in Miami." The Royal Caribbean said: "A guest accidentally fell onto the pool gutter after reaching over to retrieve their sunglasses. Cruise ship crew member dies after falling overboard on Icon of the Seas vessel in Caribbean sparking rescue operation "Our crew immediately attended to the guest, and fortunately, the guest did not experience any injuries." The Icon of the Seas is the world's largest cruise ship, standing at 1,196ft long and 219ft wide. It has 20 decks and employs 2,350 international crew members. It comes just days after a crew member on the same ship stabbed his female colleague before jumping overboard to his death, police say. The body of a 35-year-old South African man was recovered from the water just minutes after he was said to have attacked a 28-year-old woman. Both crew members were working on the luxury Icon of the Seas cruise late on Thursday night when a "personal dispute" erupted onboard. The man repeatedly stabbed the woman, also from South Africa, shortly before 7:30pm, the Royal Bahamas Police Force told NBC News. He then tried to flee the ship by jumping overboard into the waters off the coast of San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. Panicked passengers, who were unaware of the initial attack, desperately tried to help save the man by throwing life rings into the water, reports say. He was found dead just 30 minutes later by onboard medical staff. 5
