Pakistani Man Arrested While Trying To Cross Into India Near Gurdaspur In Punjab
A man from Pakistan was arrested last night in Punjab's Gurdaspur while trying to cross the International Border illegally. The 24-year-old man was caught by the Punjab Police.
The intruder, identified as Husnain, was carrying Pakistan's National Identity Card when he was caught by the Punjab Police. The cops found Pakistani currency worth Rs 40 on Husnain. Sources in the Punjab Police told NDTV that the man is mentally ill and was wandering near the international border when he illegally crossed over into India. So far, the cops have not found any terror link.
The man's arrest comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were shot dead by terrorists. India has vowed vengeance for the worst-ever attack in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama in 2019.
New Delhi acted strongly and has put the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance, shutting the Attari border with Pakistan in Punjab, revoking visas granted to all Pakistani nationals and asking them to leave India or face a three-year jail term.

VIJAYAWADA: In a sustained crackdown on traffic violations, the NTR district police collected Rs 2.28 crore in fines over the past five months, from January 1 to May 31, as part of a rigorous road safety drive. The intensified enforcement followed directives from Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, who urged strict implementation of the helmet rule for two-wheeler riders. Citing alarming statistics, the High Court noted that over 660 motorcyclists lost their lives in road accidents across the state in 2024. Check posts were set up at major entry points, including Prakasam Barrage, Ramavarappadu, and Kanakadurga Varadhi. Since January, police have issued nearly 90,000 challans for various violations such as riding without helmets, driving on the wrong side, and lacking valid licences. Officials said 62,128 challans issued in 2025 have already been paid, yielding Rs 2.28 crore in revenue. In comparison, of the 1.33 lakh e-challans issued last year, only 43,622 were cleared, bringing in Rs 1.88 crore. The remaining challans from 2024 remain unpaid. 'There has been a marked improvement in helmet usage,' said traffic police officials, noting the use of enhanced penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act. Enforcement is also being aided by CCTV surveillance and advanced cameras at key traffic signals. 'We identify violators using vehicle registration numbers and send notices. In some cases, commuters are fined on the spot,' they added.

Karnataka High Court issues interim stay on basketball stadium project at open playground in Bengaluru's Indiranagar
The Karnataka High Court issued an interim stay last week on the conversion of a basketball court at Victory Ground in Bengaluru's Indiranagar, the only open playground in the area, into an enclosed stadium with facilities such as parking. This was after the Indiranagar First Stage Residents' Welfare Association moved the court against the construction of the stadium by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in the popular playground that locals had used for decades. A division bench of Justice Mohammad Nawaz and Venkatesh Naik on May 29 ordered a stay on construction and posted the case for the next hearing on June 10. The Indiranagar first stage RWA asked the court to restrain the BBMP from proceeding with the construction of the stadium under a tender award dated August 14, 2024, and a work order dated March 21, 2025. The RWA also pleaded for the restoration and maintenance of the playground area of the Victory Ground. The proposed stadium, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 6.5 crore, will convert the existing basketball court used for coaching by the Indiranagar Basketball Club, a private club, into a stadium. Despite protests by local residents, the state government proceeded with the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed conversion of the basketball court into a stadium at the Victory Ground on May 8. The RWA then dubbed the day of the groundbreaking ceremony a 'black day'. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Karnataka chief minister's political secretary and MLC K Govindaraj, who also announced the government's interest in constructing the stadium. Govindaraj is also the president of the Karnataka State Basketball Association and the Karnataka Olympic Association. The basketball court was walled off as a separate enclosure in the playground over three decades ago. A similar proposal in 2017 to convert the basketball court into an indoor stadium was halted following opposition from residents and a stay order from the Karnataka High Court.
