6-yr-old girl raped, murdered by uncle in Rajasthan's Dungarpur: Police
A 6-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her uncle on Monday in Rajasthan's Dungarpur, said police. Prima facie, her uncle, under the influence of alcohol, abducted her when she was returning home. (Representative file photo) Aspur deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Hanuwant Singh Bhati, said, 'The incident happened in the district's Nithuwa police station. The victim's body was found near a pond following which police started an investigation that revealed that she was raped by her uncle before the murder. We have also detained the accused on Tuesday.' According to officials, the minor girl went to a nearby place to study on Monday morning from where she went missing. 'She was later found dead near a pond a few hours later by her parents. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where it was revealed that she was also raped before the murder,' said Bhati. 'Prima facie, her uncle, under the influence of alcohol, abducted her when she was returning home after her study cycle was over. He took her near the pond, raped her, and then killed her by hitting a stone at her head. He was absconding since thens,' said Bhati. On Tuesday morning, Nithuwa police detained him from a nearby village and he is now being questioned, said the officer. A case was also filed under section 63 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and necessary sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against him.

In motor accidents, claims not restricted to third party in Supreme Court
Motor vehicle insurance protects a policyholder against claims made by a third party for damages due to the policyholder's actions, but what about a claim against injury/death of policyholder in an accident? Holding that family members of such a policyholder can also claim compensation, the Supreme Court has referred the issue to a larger bench given contradictory prior judgments on the matter. While hearing the compensation plea of a minor girl who lost both parents in a car accident, the SC said section 163A of Motor Vehicles Act could be invoked for such a claim, as it is a special provision which overrides not only the rest of the Act but also any other law in force. The minor had been awarded payout by the insurance company for the death of her mother but not for her father as he was himself the insured party. The insurance company held that the petitioner, legal heir of deceased vehicle owner, cannot at the same time be the liability holder and recipient of compensation. The bench said: '… Section 163A is not restricted to third party claim; without any requirement of establishing negligence, if death or permanent disability is caused by reason of motor accident'. 'It would override Sections 147 & 149 along with other provisions of the Act and the law regulating insurance as also the terms of the policy. This according to us is the intention of incorporating the non-obstante clause under Section 163A providing for no-fault liability claims '.

Probe under way into alleged sexual assault of child in Thane school
Parents of a four-year-old girl studying in a reputed school in Maharashtra's Thane city have alleged that an unidentified person sexually assaulted her, prompting police to launch an investigation, officials said. Also read:Crimes against children not hidden, criminals are punished: NCPCR on 96% rise in child rape cases In their complaint to police, the parents have alleged a person in blue clothes sexually assaulted their daughter in the school premises on July 30 between 11.15 am and 3 pm, the officials said on Monday (August 4, 2025). Taking serious note of the matter, the police examined the CCTV footage of the school as part of their probe. Probe under POCSO expanded: police "We are investigating the matter under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Although the initial CCTV investigation did not reveal any suspicious movement, we are expanding the probe so that no link is left unturned," a senior police official said. The school administration was cooperating with the police in the case, he informed. Statements of the school staff were being recorded and information was also being sought from other witnesses in the area, according to police. In August last year, two minor girls were sexually assaulted inside the toilet of a school at Badlapur in Thane district by a male attendant, sparking widespread protests and outrage. The accused, Akshay Shinde, was later killed in an alleged retaliatory police shootout while being escorted in a police vehicle.
