Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow shut in both directions after ‘ongoing incident'
The Clyde Tunnel has been closed in both directions this afternoon following what police have described as an "ongoing incident".
Police Scotland confirmed the alert was first raised at around 2.45pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025. As of 4pm, the busy route linking Govan and Thornwood in Glasgow's west end remained shut.
Photos from the scene show both police officers and fire crews in attendance. Loals reports have suggested that someone has fallen from a bridge above the tunnel, but this is not confirmed by police.

Officers are urging drivers to steer clear of the area while emergency services deal with the situation.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The Clyde Tunnel is closed in both directions due to an ongoing incident that was reported around 2.45pm on Saturday, 26 July, 2025. Motorists should avoid the area if possible."

An American councillor has been rushed to hospital after being doused in petrol and set alight at a magazine where he worked. Independent Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was brutally attacked by a man who set him on fire this afternoon. The vice mayor of Danville, Virginia, James Buckner, confirmed to local media that Mr Vogler had been attacked and that he had been set alight, The Mirror reports. It is understood Mr Vogler was rushed by air ambulance to the UNC hospital's burn unit in Chapel Hill. Mr Buckner added: "Please keep our colleague and our brother in your prayers." Mr Volger had been at the premises of Showcase Magazine, where he works, at the time of the attack. Magazine owner and publisher Andrew Brooks shared a video on Facebook detailing the attack. Mr Brooks said the suspect had been carrying a five-gallon container of petrol and that he poured it over Mr Vogler. He continued: "Lee attempted to flee, ran to the front of the individual followed him and set him on fire." Danville Police department said officers were dispatched at about 11:30am local time following reports of a man being set on fire. Their statement continued: "The Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew also responded to the scene to render aid. The male victim was airlifted to a regional medical facility for treatment. The full extent of his injuries are not known at the time of this release. "Based on witness information provided to officers at the scene, the suspect entered into the victim's place of employment, confronted him and doused him with a flammable liquid. The victim and suspect exited the building, where the suspect then set the victim on fire. "The suspect fled the scene, however witness information provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. "The driver, Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, of Danville, was identified as the suspect in the attack and is currently in police custody. "The Danville Police Department does not typically identify living victims in media releases, however due to his public position as an elected official, the victim of this attack was identified as Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler, 38, of Danville. "Based on the investigation at the time of this release, the victim and the suspect are known to each other and the attack stems from a personal matter not related to the victim's position on Danville City Council or any other political affiliation. "Due to the ongoing investigation, the Danville Police Department will not provide any further details about the incident itself, however charge information will be forthcoming."

Reform leader Nigel Farage is being investigated by Parliament's standards commissioner over an alleged breach of rules around declaring interests - and it's understood to centre around a fishing boat Nigel Farage is being investigated by Parliament's standards watchdog amid questions over whether he owns an undeclared fishing boat, The Mirror understands. The Reform UK leader bragged in April that he was the only MP "that has a financial stake in the commercial fishing industry" - revealing he owns a commercial boat with a skipper. But there is no mention of this in his register of interests. In an interview with GB News, Mr Farage said he was 'heavily invested' in fishing. He told the network - which employs him to host a weekday show: 'I'm the only member of Parliament that has a financial stake in the commercial fishing industry… I own a commercial fishing boat… I have a skipper who runs that boat.' It comes days after Mr Farage unveiled an ex-Tory who made racist remark on WhatsApp as its newest defector. He went on to say that he makes no money on the vessel, stating in The Telegraph: 'I don't run it myself. I'm rather too busy. I have a skipper that runs that boat, and I'm not making any money on it. I can promise you, the rules and regulations put upon our small commercial fleet since Brexit are worse than they were as members of the European Union.' Daniel Greenberg, the parliamentary standards commissioner, launched an inquiry into the Reform leader over an apparent "registration of interest' matter. It concerns a potential breach of Rule 5 of the MPs' code of conduct - which requires MPs to declare changes to their interests within 28 days. Since being elected Mr Farage has declared a massive £933,173.76 in outside income on top of his MP salary - currently £93,904. He also receives around £4,000 a month writing articles for the Telegraph media group. Reform UK said the investigation, announced on the commissioner's website yesterday(WED) morning, was opened following an allegation by a member of the House of Lords. In June campaign group Hope Not Hate demanded to know: "Where's the boat, Nigel?" It called on Mr Farage to clarify how long he had been sailing the high seas. The controversial party leader told The Independent the probe was in relation to a complaint by a peer, who he did not name. He told the newspaper: "It is not to do with any undeclared income". A spokesman for the Reform boss said: 'Following a complaint from a member of the House of Lords, the Commissioner for Standards is doing his job.' Rule 5 of the MPs' code states: 'Members must fulfil conscientiously the requirements of the House in respect of the registration of interests in the Register of Members' Financial Interests. 'New Members must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of their election, and Members must register any change in those registrable interests within 28 days.' The Mirror has contacted Mr Farage and Reform UK for comment.

Showjumper accused of having underage sex ‘talked of £50k pay off'
Horse-riding instructor Guy Simmonds, 37, called his mum from prison to ask her to take £20,000 from his account to pay the family of the school girl. Simmonds was behind bars after being arrested after allegedly having a threesome with the girl and fellow rider Lauren Jarvis, 26. A court heard Simmonds was recorded in phone calls saying: "They are so fickle. Buying that f***ing mum will work. "There is £20,000 in my account. Just f***ing give it to them. I don't care." He added: "£20,000 now and then £10,000 a year for three years." Prosecutor James Hartson said there was a "clear element of grooming behaviour" from Simmonds who had "no doubt at all" about the victim's age. He said: "At all times he knew how old she was and so did Jarvis. The victim told him herself in one of the very first messages she sent him. "The defendants didn't care about her age when they were planning and engaging in a so-called threesome with the victim. "They also knew what they did was wrong and they agreed a pact of silence when they got wind she had started to talk about it." Cardiff Crown Court heard Simmons messaged Jarvis saying: "Hey, I have a feeling that she has said about us. If anyone asks for sake of both of us nothing ever happened that night xx." Jarvis replied: "Hey, who's she told? Oh god has she really, what's she trying to do, make our lives hell? Of course I will xx." Giving evidence, Simmonds said he had visited the home of Jarvis to have sex with her in January last year while the victim was downstairs. He said: "I went to put my clothes back on and she (the girl) appeared in the room. She came upstairs to the door of the room. "She was just stood there, she had come a couple of feet into the room. She was clothed. "I was just in my boxer shorts. I had just literally pulled them up. I said something like: 'This is awkward.' I carried on putting my clothes back on." Simmonds denied any sexual contact with the victim and claimed the girl had faked WhatsApp conversations relating to the alleged threesome. The court heard Simmonds previously had a successful career in falconry working at London Zoo and keeping falcons for the king of Saudi Arabia in Dubai. He also featured in a TV show for Horse and Country following his journey from Wales to Mongolia while exploring his passion for falconry and horsemanship. Simmonds denied any sexual contact with the victim and told police that Jarvis was a "friend with benefits" and they had sex about four times. Following the alleged threesome he messaged Jarvis to say: "Hey, I have a feeling that she has said about us. If anyone asks for sake of both of us nothing ever happened that night xx." But he claimed he sent this message because the girl had been "texting everybody absolute c**p" and "being a nuisance" in a row over other females she believed were close to him. Simmonds is accused of six counts of sexual activity with a child and Jarvis faces one charge of sexual activity with a child. Simmonds, from Undy, Monmouthshire and Jarvis, from Newport, deny all charges. The trial, before Judge Lucy Crowther, continues.
