Late NFL star Pat Tillman's brother to undergo mental competency test before trial over crash
Richard Tillman, 44, of San Jose was arrested after he allegedly rammed a car into a post office in a San Jose, California, strip mall around 3 a.m. Sunday, and set it on fire inside the building, which went up in flames, San Jose police said. No injuries were reported.
During his arraignment Wednesday, his attorney raised doubts about Tillman's ability to stand trial. The judge ordered a competency test and set bail at $135,000.
Tillman, with a long beard and shoulder-length hair and his hands in handcuffs, waved at television cameras as he entered the courtroom. He told the judge he didn't want his court-appointed defense attorney, calling him 'incompetent.'
He also said he didn't want to be released on bail.
'I don't need bail. I don't have anywhere to live,' he said.
Tillman was booked on suspicion of arson and vandalism. He is also charged with a felony count of possessing combustible materials for the purpose of arson, according to court documents. Tillman allegedly used fire-starter logs and lighter fluid bought from a grocery store to make his car into an incendiary device, the Mercury News reported.
Tillman kept livestreaming a video of the fire on YouTube even as he was being interrogated by a San Jose police officer, the newspaper reported.
After the crash, his brother Kevin Tillman shared a statement from the family who said they were relieved no one was hurt.
'To be clear, it's no secret that Richard has been battling severe mental health issues for many years,' the family said. 'He has been livestreaming, what I'll call, his altered self on social media for anyone to witness. Unfortunately, securing the proper care and support for him has proven incredibly difficult — or rather, impossible. As a result, none of this is as shocking as it should be.'
Pat Tillman left the Arizona Cardinals to join the military after 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 at age 27. His family is from the San Jose area.
Kevin Tillman also left his Major League Baseball career with the Anaheim Angels to serve in the military.

Minnesota judge with 'explosive' temper faces probe after 'threatening to duct tape juvenile suspect'
A Minnesota judge is facing an internal probe for her allegedly explosive temper after she was accused of threatening to duct tape a juvenile suspect. Judge Jennifer Fischer's judgeship could be revoked after the Minnesota Board of Judicial Standards filed a formal complaint against her on July 23. According to the complaint, the board has received several complaints about the judge, including one in which she is accused of telling a juvenile suspect: 'Do you want me to get the duct tape out?' She is also accused in the complaint of claiming that another judge was secretly hiding an opioid addiction by saying she was taking migraine medication. It was also claimed that the judge called a public defender 'severely mentally ill' and spoke of sexually explicit topics with staff. Court staff told investigators that Fischer has 'erratic, explosive, and unpredictable behavior' that she displays inside the courtroom. The investigator concluded that Fischer's actions 'constituted sexual harassment.' Staff also told investigators that the judge had 'spoken about discontinuing use of prescribed medication for mental health issues in an effort to manage issues on her own,' the complaint stated. Fischer also recused herself from a hearing if a particular law or law office were involved in the cases, including Meeker County and Litchfield City Attorneys' Offices and public defender Carter Greiner, whom she had made complaints against. Fischer, who has been serving the eighth district since 2013, has denied the allegations against her. 'Judge Fischer has not failed to execute her duties and has not failed to cooperate,' she wrote in her response to the complaint. 'Judge Fischer has always served the people of the Eighth Judicial District with integrity, fairness and an unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law. 'Throughout her judicial career Judge Fischer has been guided by the principles of justice and the duty to protect and defend the constitution so that its protections are available to all people coming before her court.' She also defended her accusations that a judge had an opioid addiction, stating that she had a 'genuine concern' for her and 'engaged in appropriate and good faith action[s].' Fischer also said in her response that the sexual harassment claims against her were retaliation for speaking up about her own incident in 1996. '[She] has faced systemic retaliation since her appointment to the bench in 2013,' she wrote in her response. 'While Judge Fischer's offender in 1996 was allowed to rehabilitate and become Chief Judge in the 8th District, Judge Fischer is being asked to accept public reprimand or leave the bench entirely,' she wrote. She also revealed she has PTSD and had been ruled fit enough to serve the bench in September 2022. She also accused the chief judge of discriminating against her medical accommodations by changing her schedule in a manner that was 'disruptive to the whole district and outside the scope of her authority.' However, the complaint alleged that by taking herself off cases that had certain attorneys or county attorneys' offices Fischer significantly reduced her work. By early February, she was not presiding over any criminal cases, and by late April, she had no cases. 'Her duties consist of administrative duties, such as research and writing,' the complaint said. Fischer concluded by asking for the complaint to be dismissed.

Trump's FBI Chief Kash Patel discovered 'burn bags' with thousands of Russia hoax docs in secret room
FBI Director Kash Patel discovered a stash of documents tied to the Russia investigation sealed away in 'burn bags' in a secret room of the bureau. The documents consisted of the classified annex to former Special Counsel John Durham 's final report, which includes the underlying intelligence he reviewed, a spokesperson for the FBI told the Daily Mail. Durham examined the FBI's investigation into potential links between Donald Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election. A person familiar with the discovery speculated to the Daily Mail that it was likely an oversight by previous directors that prevented the documents from being destroyed. The person added that it's likely the documents would have never seen the light of day if the FBI wasn't diligently looking through everything it comes across at the bureau. The findings were turned over to Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and will be released later Wednesday, the FBI spokesperson said. News of the discovery was first reported by Fox News. Patel, who is Trump's pick to head the bureau, was one of the FBI's most vocal critics. He has set about remaking the bureau, including firing senior agents and reassigning others. When he began his tenure, he promised a 'wave of transparency,' including on the investigation into the possible ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia. Called 'Crossfire Hurricane,' the FBI ran a counter-intelligence probe into potential links between Trump's first presidential campaign and Russia. Durham's report found that the investigation was 'seriously flawed,' but it didn't uncover evidence of criminal wrongdoing. His report also didn't support President Trump's claim that special counsel Robert Mueller's report was a 'witch hunt' or a 'hoax.' Muller's report found the FBI investigation 'did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities' but it did find Russian interference in the 2016 contest that it claimed benefitted Trump. President Trump, meanwhile, has repeatedly claimed to be the victim of a witch hunt when it came to the FBI probe of the 2016 election. The loyal supporters he's installed throughout the federal government have been searching for evidence to back up his claim. Special Counsel John Durham (left) was appointed in October 2020 to look into the FBI probe of possible ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia; Special Counsel Robert Mueller (right) examined whether Russia interfered in that contest Patel, in a June interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, said he found a room full of documents and computer hard drives 'that no one had ever seen or heard of.' 'Just think about this,' Patel told Rogan. 'Me, as director of the FBI, the former 'Russiagate guy,' when I first got to the bureau, found a room that [former FBI director James] Comey and others hid from the world in the Hoover Building, full of documents and computer hard drives that no one had ever seen or heard of. Locked the key and hid access and just said, 'No one's ever gonna find this place.'' Patel and his staff have been working through the documents since that time. Other Trump officials are coming forward with findings tied to the 2016 election. Last week Tulsi Gabbard, who serves as Trump's director of National Intelligence, claimed Russia President Vladimir Putin had sensitive information on Hillary Clinton and planned to use it against her when she was serving as president. She claimed the government had intelligence reports that Russia actually wanted a Clinton victory in 2016. 'This report shows Putin held back leaking, held back from leaking compromising material on Hillary Clinton prior to the election, instead planning to release it after the election,' Gabbard said. 'The intelligence community intentionally suppressed intelligence that showed Putin was saving the most damaging material that he had in his possession about Hillary Clinton until after her potential and likely victory,' she noted.
