
You Can't Give Teslas Away These Days, but Tesla's Actually Trying To
Free car giveaways are typically associated with TV game shows, radio sweepstakes, or halftime contests, but right now there's one being hosted directly by an automaker. By participating in Tesla's 'TeslaVision' contest, you could score a brand-new Model Y and a private tour of the Texas Gigafactory.
In 2017, Tesla held 'Project Loveday,' a video contest named after a 10-year-old fan of the brand who wrote a letter to CEO Elon Musk suggesting that customers submit promotional video clips to make up for the company's lack of traditional advertising. That contest received thousands of submissions and was eventually won by none other than YouTube superstar Marques Brownlee. The TeslaVision Contest
Now, Tesla is holding the TeslaVision contest as a follow-up to Project Loveday. According to the company, it's here 'to commemorate launching deliveries of New Model Y in all continents where we operate.' That new Model Y is the so-called Juniper version, which arrived earlier this year sporting hardware updates, a remodeled interior, and a Cybertruck-esque headlight bar.
So, the TeslaVision contest—it is, in Tesla's words, 'a global celebration and showcase of the owners and fans who have always recognized the true value and impact of our products.' To participate, submit a video no longer than 90 seconds 'showing how Tesla vehicles give you more in your life—more freedom, more safety, more fun, more convenience.' That video must then be posted to YouTube and shared on X and Instagram with Tesla's accounts tagged, and then those links uploaded in the contest submission form on Tesla's site.
In addition to the Model Y winner, two runners-up will get an all-expenses-paid private tour of the Gigafactory outside of Austin, Texas, which produces some Model Ys and every Cybertruck. We Have Some Thoughts
Acclaimed as America's best-selling EV, one might imagine that the Model Y is in such high demand that it wouldn't be so available as to be offered up as a giveaway. Evidently, however, Tesla has enough idle inventory to make one the grand prize in the TeslaVision contest.
The EV innovator has faced harsh backlash due to CEO Musk's controversial involvement in Donald Trump's presidential administration. It's possible that the TeslaVision contest is being held to gather and then promote positive takes from Tesla fans who remain unbothered by Musk's drastic social impact, and are uninterested in the numerous other EVs from brands that don't have the contentious symbolism that Tesla now does, in addition to potentially longer range, faster charging, better quality, greater comfort, prettier styling, or higher performance.
To wit, we question how a video could be created under Tesla's suggested parameters. Regarding 'freedom,' the advantage Tesla once held by keeping its widespread Supercharger network exclusive to its own cars is slipping away as other EVs gain access, allowing rivals to also enjoy road trip ease.
Regarding safety, the 2025 Model Y scores the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, as a plethora of other EVs do, but it no longer qualifies for IIHS Top Safety Pick as it did in years past. Furthermore, how Tesla's flagship Full Self-Driving (FSD) software has a propensity to make errors such as veering across a solid double yellow line into the oncoming lane of traffic makes safety seem tenuous at best.
About fun, in our testing and assessments we've found Tesla vehicles don't have much to offer beyond the common EV attribute of quick straight-line acceleration, while rivals have superior chassis and handling refinement.
To convenience, the spacious cabin, frunk and sub-trunk, and minimalistic layout found in Tesla vehicles contribute to that measure. However, the experience with MotorTrend 's 2023 Model Y long-term review car has often proved incredibly frustrating, such as the finicky flush-mounted exterior door handles, which often do nothing because the car doesn't recognize its smartphone app-based key, or how the cruise control can deactivate when using the windshield washers, or how, for now, using an adapter is necessary to charge on public Level 2 plugs.
Hmm, maybe we wouldn't win this contest... positive thoughts! We should also point out the incongruity between asking fans and owners—many of whom likely already own a Model Y, given its ubiquity—to get excited about winning another one.

Episode 3 of And Just Like That…'s third season is upon us, and below, find literally every thought I had about it: Love how much screen time Shoe the cat is getting this season! Why isn't Amy Sedaris back as Carrie's book agent? Oh, right, she was Carrie's book publisher. Carrie in Austin for SXSW? Look out, South Congress! Oh, LOL, she's going to Virginia to be near Aidan. Good Lord, woman. You're in your 50s! Date someone who's allowed to be in the same state as you, or whatever! Anthony's hot-bread-guys business is really a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. 'Is body negativity back?' Well, yes! Carrie, you are also too old to get your friends to catsit for free. Pay a teen! Or that cute 20-something jewelry designer you're friends with! Charlotte's a momfluencer now? OMG, Aidan's wife (a.k.a. Midge from Mad Men, a.k.a. Rosemarie DeWitt, my biggest crush of all time) is calling Carrie? She looks so good in glasses! LOL, she needs Carrie to bring their son Adderall? Hey, why not conscript your ex-husband's long-distance GF to traffic stimulants across state lines? Aidan didn't tell his sons Carrie was coming?!? I am going to kill this man. Also, as the formerly unstable child of divorced parents who both dated after their split…your kid will be fine with you having a girlfriend, Aidan, if you just stop being so weird about it! Dolly Wells Knows You Miss Doll & Em, But Dating Miranda on ‘And Just Like That…' Isn't a Bad Next Act

Now, it's time for American audiences to get to know Wells as part of the Carrie Bradshaw extended universe—and the 53-year-old actress is more than ready. Ahead of season three, episode three of And Just Like That, Vogue spoke to Wells about rewatching the original Sex and the City, playing Miranda's latest paramour, getting recognized in the park, worshipping the BBC, and more. Vogue: Were you a viewer of Sex and the City when it first aired? Dolly Wells: You know what's crazy? I wasn't, and I don't know why. I can't explain it now. I didn't watch it when I was young, but it's sort of like suddenly realizing how delicious dark chocolate or something is. I've watched it all now; I had a sort of Sex and the City holiday. All my friends watched it at the time that it came out, but I've often gone through stages of people just being so confused that I've never seen Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. ‘And Just Like That …' Season 3, Episode 3 Recap: An Expensive Date
Season 3, Episode 3: 'Carrie Golightly' They say Virginia is for lovers. They do not say Virginia is for casual lunches and sleeping alone in a guesthouse. In Episode 3, it is Carrie who visits Aidan at his home, but not because her 'boyfriend' (I'm still using quotes around that word and you can't stop me) did something crazy like invite her. It is because Virginia is on a list of locations Carrie could go to promote her work, along with sexier options like Google's Palo Alto office and Austin's South by Southwest festival. First of all, why does Carrie even have to choose? She is a childless cat lady with no looming deadlines. What is stopping her from hitting up all three to boost her clout in preparation for an upcoming foray into historical fiction? But Williamsburg, Va. is the only place our gal wants to go because it's vaguely near Aidan, and she thinks that if she pops down south, cool as a cucumber, 'easy breezy,' with no expectations, Aidan might be willing to meet her for a quick meal. Because the bar for this relationship is in the basement. The saddest part about all this is that Carrie feels she needs a cover story in the first place. She can say, 'I love you,' to Aidan, but apparently, she can't simply say, 'I want to see you.' And that's really Aidan's fault; she is just playing by his rules. But this game sucks. Thankfully, Miranda is in touch with her judgy side, as she can't stop cracking jokes about Carrie venturing over the river and through the woods for merely a bite to eat with her beau. Yet, Miranda is concocting a cover story of her own. After some bad luck in the romance department this season that included a tryst with a nun and a snub from a straight 'guacamole girl,' Miranda is finally sweet on someone she would make sense with: Joy (Dolly Wells) the BBC producer.
