Agriculture Ministry will work on the theme of 'One Nation-One Agriculture-One Team': Shivraj Singh Chouhan
New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Sunday participated in the farmers' Convention Krishi Samvaad organised under the 'Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and addressed the gathering, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare said in a release.
During this, Chauhan and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated progressive farmers who were doing excellent work in the agriculture sector and extended their best wishes.
On this occasion, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that today, we are announcing 'One Nation, One Agriculture and One Team' from Maharashtra. Today, the central and State Governments, the Chief Minister, the Agriculture Minister, MPs, MLAs, senior scientists, and the entire staff of the Agriculture Department are present here.
The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry, State Agriculture Ministry, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Krishi Vigyan Kendra and all agricultural institutes should work together as a team.
Shivraj Singh said that if all the institutions are connected, targets are set, and roadmaps are made, then miracles can be made in agriculture. Shivraj Singh said that Maharashtra, the holy land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is amazing. The farmers here are hardworking and progressive; they have infinite possibilities.
While praising the Chief Minister, Union Minister Shivraj Singh said that he is constantly trying to transform the agricultural landscape and the fate of the farmers. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, our farmers should become self-reliant, their income should increase, and for this, we all will work together as a team, he added.
Another big announcement was made by Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who said that we are going to set up a national-level lab in Pune under the Clean Plant Program. This laboratory will be set up in Pune to conduct research on the original species of plants. Union Agriculture Minister announced this while interacting with the farmers of Vidarbha in the Krishi Samvad program organised under the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur.
Emphasising increasing agricultural production, Shivraj Singh said that the Clean Plant Program is being run to ensure pure and disease-free nurseries. To increase production, farmers should understand the need for good quality seeds, soil testing and reduction in production costs.
During the event, Chouhan informed that ICAR has 113 institutes across the country, 11 of which are in Maharashtra. He announced that a meeting with heads of all ICAR institutes would be held at the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS & LUP) in Nagpur to chart the course for agricultural development in Maharashtra. The government is committed to bridging the gap between laboratories and farmlands.
With 16,000 agricultural scientists under ICAR, scientists will visit villages as a team along with agricultural extension officers to educate farmers about new seed varieties and innovative farming practices. Chouhan further stated that during the 15-day campaign from May 29 to June 12, agricultural scientists will visit villages to guide farmers on sustainable farming practices and plan for the Kharif season.
On this occasion, Shivraj Singh said that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to taking the country forward. PM Modi's goal is to build a glorious, powerful, prosperous, rich and developed India.
Chouhan, along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated the National Soil Spectral Library, which includes data on soil pH Value, density, and elemental composition collected using hyperspectral sensor technology by NBSS & LUP. With this inauguration, Maharashtra became the first state to have a soil map.
Additionally, Chouhan launched an AI-based Smart Trap technology for managing the pink bollworm pest affecting cotton crops. This technology will alert farmers about pest infestations in their crops.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided details about the Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project, which will enhance irrigation capacity in Vidarbha. He clarified that the state government will fully cooperate with the inclusive policy outlined by Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the entire nation.
State Agriculture Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate noted that labour shortages for cotton picking have become a challenge. Research and development are underway for battery-operated small tractors, and if successful, the results will be presented to the Agriculture Ministry.
During the event, farmers from the Nagpur division excelling in natural farming, organic farming, and farmer-producer organisations were felicitated by the Union Agriculture Minister and the Chief Minister. The program saw a large attendance of farmers and agricultural officers from the Nagpur division. (ANI)

Lucknow: More than 60,000 newly recruited constables of the Uttar Pradesh Police are likely to receive their appointment letters in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah in Lucknow on June 15. The ceremony will be held at Sector 18 in Vrindavan Yojna, a sprawling venue where Defence Expo was held in 2020. Security arrangements are being reviewed by intelligence and law enforcement agencies, with special attention to nearby buildings and entry points. Senior UP Police officials are supervising the arrangements. A total of 60,244 constables, including 12,048 women recruits, will receive the appointment letters at the event. The recruitment process was started in Dec 2023. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) received more than 48 lakh applications for 60,000 posts. Meanwhile, the recruitment drive for 4,543 sub-inspector (SI) and equivalent posts will begin next week. Sources in the department said these posts will include 4,242 SIs (civil police), 135 platoon commanders (PAC), 60 platoon commanders (special forces), and 106 female platoon commanders (Badaun, Lucknow & Gorakhpur). The upcoming notification will invite candidates from all categories and backgrounds, with relaxed age criteria approved recently by the state cabinet. Under the Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Relaxation of Age Limit for Recruitment) Rules, 1992, the govt has granted a one-time relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for all candidates applying for SI posts for the 2020–2025 recruitment cycle. This move is expected to benefit nearly five lakh aspirants, many of whom became overage due to recruitment delays in previous years. The advertisement, expected next week, will detail the eligibility criteria, application process, and selection stages, which will include a written test, physical fitness assessment, and document verification.

Arunachal steps up crackdown on illegal B'deshi immigrants
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh govt has launched a statewide crackdown to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, an official said on Thursday. Acting on directives issued by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), the state has instructed all districts to immediately constitute district task forces (DTFs) to identify undocumented immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) provisions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by advisor to home minister Mutchu Mithi and DGP Anand Mohan on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including inspector generals and superintendents of police. "Statewide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ILP violations. A district task force will be immediately constituted in every district to carry out detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit regime," Mithi said. The MHA had last month issued a 30-day deadline for all states and Union Territories to verify the identity and documentation of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those failing to produce valid documents would be liable for deportation, officials said. It also instructed states to invoke their statutory powers to detect, detain and deport illegal immigrants. 'Understanding Among Parties After Pahalgam Attack Should Continue': RSS Chief
Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said the mutual understanding displayed by the political class following the Pahalgam terror attack and action taken by India later should continue and become a permanent feature. After the April 22 massacre of tourists in Pahalgam, people were angry and wanted the culprits to be punished and the action followed, he said in an indirect reference to Operation Sindoor which saw Indian armed forces target terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, and subsequent bombing of airbases in the neighbouring country in retaliatory strikes. The society also gave a message of unity, Mr Bhagwat noted, addressing the concluding event of the Karyakarta Vikas Varg for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers in Nagpur. Coming out strongly against religious conversion using force and pressure, the RSS leader said, "Conversion is violence. We are not against it when done by choice. But luring, forcing and pressurising is something we are against. By telling people that their ancestors were wrong, it is an insult of them. We are against such practices." "We are with you (in fight against conversion),' Mr Bhagwat said, referring to tribal leader and former Union minister Arvind Netam, who was the chief guest at the event. Once again referring to the May 7-10 India-Pakistan military conflict, he emphasised everyone saw the grit of the country's decision-makers in the action taken after the Pahalgam terror attack. "Action was taken after the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam. The valour of our Army shone once again in it. The firmness of the administration was also seen. The political class also showed mutual understanding. The society gave the message of unity. This should continue and become a permanent feature," he averred. India should be self-dependent in matters of security, the RSS chief insisted. Without naming Pakistan, Mr Bhagwat said, "Those who can't win a direct fight with India want to bleed our country by the policy of a thousand cuts and waging a proxy war." During World War II, Hitler bombarded London for nearly a month, expecting Britain to surrender. In response, Prime Minister Winston Churchill addressed the nation and later told Parliament the British would fight on the "seas and on the beaches". Referring to this episode, Mr Bhagwat remarked that Churchill had said society was the true lion and he merely roared on its behalf. The RSS leader observed that one person's gain can sometimes mean another's loss, and a lack of understanding between individuals may lead to dissatisfaction. In the national interest, no group or class should come into conflict with another. Acting impulsively, engaging in unnecessary arguments, or taking the law into one's own hands was not in the country's interest, he stressed. He reflected on the time when India was not independent, saying (British) rulers then encouraged divisions and supported disruptive elements, forcing ordinary people to take up the fight. Today, however, he said, the government functions under the Constitution. Mr Bhagwat warned against the use of abusive language and overreactions, stating some individuals deliver provocative speeches for personal gain. "Our roots lie in unity, not in division," he said, adding that while people may speak different languages and follow different customs, unity stands above all differences. Mr Bhagwat argued that the idea of ethnic differences among Indians was a misconception fostered by British colonial rule. Tribal leader Netam, who served in the cabinets of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the RSS volunteer training camp. The 25-day training camp, Karyakarta Vikas Varg Dwitiya, in which 840 volunteers from across the country participated, began on May 12 at Dr Hedgewar Smriti Mandir located in Reshimbag area of Nagpur. Mr Netam, who hails from Chhattisgarh, said no state government has so far taken the issue of religious conversions seriously. "I think RSS is the only institution which can help us in this area," he said. The RSS should pressure the central government to come out with an action plan after Maoism ends to ensure the menace does not raise its head again, the former Congress minister stated. Mr Netam said no government implemented the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 and added the central government is mum and even helping industrialists. The PESA Act aims to ensure self-governance in tribal areas through Gram Sabhas, empowering them to manage resources and make decisions related to their communities.
