Arunachal steps up crackdown on illegal B'deshi immigrants
Acting on directives issued by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), the state has instructed all districts to immediately constitute district task forces (DTFs) to identify undocumented immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) provisions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by advisor to home minister Mutchu Mithi and DGP Anand Mohan on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including inspector generals and superintendents of police.
"Statewide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ILP violations. A district task force will be immediately constituted in every district to carry out detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit regime," Mithi said.
The MHA had last month issued a 30-day deadline for all states and Union Territories to verify the identity and documentation of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those failing to produce valid documents would be liable for deportation, officials said.
It also instructed states to invoke their statutory powers to detect, detain and deport illegal immigrants. PTI

Freezing drug assets gets easy in Punjab as Centre tweaks rules
Drug peddlers in Punjab are set for a tough time as the Union government has streamlined the centralised online portal, making it easier for law enforcement officials to freeze properties under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, cutting the time from several months to just one week. Under the new process, an SHO or an investigating officer (IO), instead of a senior superintendent of police (SSP), can fill out the necessary paperwork and obtain orders for freezing of assets and properties within a week. The changes have been made after repeated requests from Punjab, with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) flagging long delays in obtaining freezing orders. ANTF works as the agency that coordinates with the district police to get the properties of drug peddlers frozen. It is learnt that Punjab had raised the matter with the Centre, and the issue was also discussed at the northern zonal council meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah. Though the portal has been in use for the past few years but the process of applying for the freezing of properties was difficult and time-consuming. The cases were submitted through the senior superintendent of police (SSP) offices, and sometimes it took as much as three to six months or even more to obtain orders. Moreover, after the case files of freezing properties were sent to the central revenue department, the investigating officers (IOs) had to appear physically before the revenue department's competent authority in Delhi, often multiple times. Now, the process has been made the process easier with the SHO or IO, in cases having the authority to complete formalities online and defend the freezing orders through video-conferencing. Under the new process, an SHO or an investigating officer (IO), instead of a senior superintendent of police (SSP), can fill out the necessary paperwork and obtain orders for freezing of assets and properties within a week. Properties amassed six years before the registration of a commercial quantity case under the NDPS Act come under this preview. If an IO thinks the assets have been amassed from the proceeds of drug money, the properties are attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. Once the orders to freeze a property are issued, the revenue record is updated so that no one can sell or purchase it. Section 68-F of the NDPS Act authorises officers can trace and seize or freeze illegally acquired properties. After issuing notice to the affected person and reviewing records, the authority may forfeit the property. The burden of proving the property is legally acquired lies on the owner. Appeals go to the appellate tribunal for forfeited properties, while confiscated assets are handled as per the illegally acquired property (receipt, management, and disposal) rules. According to Punjab Police data, since April 2022, 1,122 properties worth ₹650 crore have been frozen. Out of these properties worth ₹133 crore were frozen in the past four months since the launch of 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' in March this year, according to information gathered from ANTF. Timeline reduced to one week Under the new system, after an IO submits freezing requests online through the portal, the competent authority will hear their plea via videoconferencing and issue orders within a week. According to a senior ANTF official, this streamlined mechanism will significantly speed up action against the assets linked to drug trafficking. 'Punjab was raising the issue of making the process simpler. The state has frozen the maximum number of properties. In the past year, our figures are more than what other states have done collectively,' said a senior Punjab Police functionary. Faster crackdown Freezing orders within one week. 100 stray dogs relocated within 2 days as MCD acts on SC order
The MCD has picked up 100 stray dogs so far since the Supreme Court order on relocating canines, and converted the city's 20 Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres into shelter homes, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said on Wednesday. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be picked up within eight weeks and relocated to shelters.(PTI) The MCD also identified an 85-acre plot in outer Delhi to shelter more strays, Singh said. Talking to PTI, Singh said the civic body has started looking for land to set up more dog shelters, adding that they will implement the SC directive in phases, starting with aggressive and rabies-infected dogs. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will expand an ABC centre in Dwarka, while in the third phase, the Ghoga Dairy -- which has 85 acres of land -- will be considered for setting up large shelter homes, the mayor said. Once the stray dogs are shifted to the shelters, Delhiites will get huge relief, he said. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be picked up within eight weeks and relocated to shelters to be created by the appropriate authorities. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan noted that there was an "extremely grim" situation due to stray dog bites resulting in rabies, particularly among children. Singh said, "We had assured people that we will implement the order 100 per cent. We are getting a lot of calls from residents, and till now, 100 stray dogs have been caught.' The mayor said in the first phase, only those dogs that are aggressive, rabies-infected, or sick will be picked up. At present, the MCD has 20 ABC centres, which are being converted into shelters to house the captured dogs, he said. 'We are making sure that all facilities are provided so that the dogs do not face any problems,' he added. For the next phase, the civic body plans to expand the ABC centre in Dwarka, while in the third phase, the Ghoga Dairy will be considered for setting up large shelter homes. Speaking about the availability of land and funds, Singh said there is no shortage of either, and funding will not be an issue. 'This is a people's government, and this is a priority for us because residents have been facing problems for a long time. We now have the resources and are moving ahead in a planned way,' he said. According to Singh, 25 teams are currently working across the city and responding to calls from residents. The MCD will soon launch a dedicated helpline for citizens to report stray dog-related complaints.
