Oisin Murphy pleads guilty to drink driving offence
The 29-year-old Irishman appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday afternoon where he pleaded guilty to one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit of alcohol.
He was not asked to plead on another count of failing to cooperate with a preliminary test at the roadside.
The four-times champion was charged by postal requisition on June 19 after he drove his grey Mercedes A Class off the road and into a tree in Hermitage, Berkshire, at about 12.05am on April 27.
He was officially charged on the Thursday of Royal Ascot week, when he rode a double courtesy of Arabian Story and Never So Brave. He ended the showpiece meeting with five winners in total.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time. "Our school will be open today from 3pm to 6pm and tomorrow from 10am to 2pm for any students and staff who wish to visit. "May he rest in peace.' TRAGIC LOSS Separately, an Irishman missing in Portugal has sadly been found dead. Family and friends of Mark Kiely, from Co Donegal, had asked for the public's help in trying to locate him. He had been last seen around The Old Town area of Albufeira in Portugal at around 2am on Saturday August 16, near the beach tunnel. SAD OUTCOME But sadly, Mark, who was wearing cream shorts and a light green polo shirt when he was last spotted, was tragically found deceased yesterday. In a social media update to an appeal for information, his family said: "We have found Mark, but unfortunately not the outcome we had been hoping for. "Huge thanks to all our friends and family for support and help in trying to find him. May Mark rest in peace."

Oisin Murphy book to provide 'searingly honest' account of life and career
Oisin Murphy has revealed his first book which vows to deliver a 'searingly honest' insight into his racing career. The 29-year-old has cemented his position as one of Europe's premier jockeys and in Britain is poised to secure the Flat jockeys' championship for the fifth time. Alongside notching up more than 1,700 victories, achieving two British Classic triumphs plus capturing the Japan Cup and Breeders' Cup Distaff, he has battled through numerous obstacles during his journey. He faced a three-month suspension in 2020 following a positive cocaine test in France, which he attributed to contamination through intimate contact with an occasional drug user. In 2021, he surrendered his licence after disclosing he was facing disciplinary proceedings for violating Covid travel rules and two failed breath tests, resulting in a ban until February 2023. In his most recent controversy he received a £70,000 fine and a 20-month driving prohibition at Reading Magistrates after registering nearly double the legal alcohol threshold in a breath test conducted almost seven hours following his arrest after a collision where his vehicle struck a tree. His criminal conviction will not appear in Murphy's memoir which was penned during the 2024 Flat season, reports the Mirror. Revealing the announcement Murphy shared: "Great to reveal that I have a book coming out this October. I was writing this through 2024 and wanted to share my passion for racing and horses and what a year in the life of a jockey looks like. "This will give readers a level of access, honesty and insight and I hope it shows what my fellow jockeys and I go through each season." Titled 'Sacrifice: A Year in the Life of a Champion Jockey', it's set to hit the shelves on 9 October, with publishers Penguin promising "a gripping and searingly honest account of a year in the turbulent life of a professional jockey, from four-time champion Oisin Murphy". The blurb continues, "But reaching the pinnacle of the sport has required a high-wire dance that continues to push his body and mind to their breaking point. "Despite four champion jockey crowns, alcohol addiction lurks beneath the surface, and a string of misdemeanours have overshadowed his racing. "Fast paced and searingly honest, Sacrifice lays bare Oisin's personal struggles and immerses readers in the daily life of a jockey throughout an entire season. Irish tourist missing in Portugal as family pleads for information
The family of an Irishman missing in Portugal have issued an urgent appeal for help locating him. Mark Kiely, from Donegal, was last seen around 2am on Saturday, August 16 in the Old Town area of Albufeira, near the beach tunnel. He was wearing cream shorts and a light green polo shirt at the time he went missing. Mark's family have taken to social media to ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. The appeal reads: "Mark Kiely from Co. Donegal, Ireland has been missing since 2:00AM on Saturday the 16th of August around old town area Albufeira specifically near the tunnel. If anyone has any information at all on his last location or whereabouts please contact this number 0035387 6701702 and the Albufeira police station on 351 289 590 790. "He was last seen wearing cream shorts and a light green polo shirt. Any information at all please get in contact ASAP. Thank you." In an update today, the family added: "Mark is still missing and has not been found. Incorrect information is circulating. Friends and family are still searching. Please keep sharing."
