'Vibrant hub' vision for Hamilton town centre with lease of 50 retail units

Daily Record08-07-2025
The six-acre gateway site has been identified as key to South Lanarkshire Council's masterplan vision for the regeneration of Hamilton town centre to create a vibrant, accessible, and resilient town centre.
The new owner of Hamilton's Regent Shopping Centre is to lease out 50 retail units with the aim of creating a "vibrant hub" for the region.
Property development and asset management group Evergold has instructed Shepherd Chartered Surveyors to bring the units to market after acquiring the centre for an undisclosed sum last month.

Occupying a dominant position in Hamilton town centre, the Regent's positioning and scale means that it makes up a significant proportion of the town centre core.

The six-acre gateway site has been identified as key to South Lanarkshire Council's masterplan vision for the regeneration of Hamilton town centre to create a vibrant, accessible, and resilient town centre with a focus on living, leisure, healthcare and workspace as well as incorporating a significantly reduced retail element.
Radical plans include reducing the town centre's vacant retail spaces by more than two-thirds, building houses and creating new leisure uses including an urban park.
The sweeping changes would include knocking down both the Regent and New Cross shopping centres, repurposing or demolishing Bairds and the former Marks & Spencer, and creating a hotel or student accommodation on the site of Duke Street car park.
As reported by Lanarkshire Live, Evergold has had a series of "detailed discussions" with South Lanarkshire Council on the future of the town centre site which is part of a local authority masterplan to construct 450 new homes.

Tahir Ali, of Evergold, said: 'Our plans for the Centre are aligned closely with the Council's aim to have a diverse and sustainable mixed use town centre that not only serves its immediate catchment but also becomes a vibrant hub for the wider region.'
In addition to acting as sole letting agent, Shepherd Chartered Surveyors will assume an asset management role together with a property management role.

Calvin Molinari at Shepherd Chartered Surveyors said: 'This instruction follows our recent merger with Whyte & Barrie Chartered Surveyors to form a practice unrivalled in its delivery network of surveying services throughout Lanarkshire.
'Our extensive expertise and experience within the Lanarkshire market make us best placed to deliver effective asset management and property management roles alongside actively marketing the available retail units at this gateway site to a range of prospective tenants.'
The 50 retail units, varying in size from 300 sq ft – 50,000 sq ft, are available on flexible lease terms. Interested parties should contact the sole letting agent on tel 0141 331 2807.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 launch sees £200 discount frenzy a day before release

Samsung has just launched its new Galaxy Club scheme that offers the chance to spread the cost of a new Galaxy phone The latest and greatest Samsung foldable is nearly here with a release date of 25th July, close for many Android enthusiasts - and there's plenty to be thrilled about. That's because the Z Fold7 could well be one of the finest foldable phones to hit the market in years - and Samsung has truly risen to the occasion. But what if we told you there was a way to save £200 on the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7? Well, Samsung has unveiled its own Galaxy Club - a loyalty and payment programme - that lets customers spread the cost of a new Galaxy phone over 24 months with a mere 10 per cent deposit. It's a scheme designed to make owning a new phone more affordable and rewarding. However, like plans at Sky and Vodafone (or any mobile contract), it is subject to the usual credit agreements. It enables customers to retain their SIM-only phone without having to commit to a carrier, and offers a £100 discount upon signing up. Samsung will also throw in a free storage upgrade worth £100, in addition to the Samsung Club discount, reports the Mirror. Furthermore, Samsung will refund 50 per cent of the phone's value after 12 months of ownership, allowing customers the freedom to upgrade whenever they wish. For shoppers looking for some other phone alternatives, the newest Galaxy Z Fold7 is out, and it's perfect for those who want to splash out. is offering some enticing pre-order deals for the gadget, and with the upgrades it boasts, it might just be worth the investment. Prices kick off at £44.99 a month, with double the storage included. Alternatively, if you're devoted to Apple, Giffgaff offers the iPhone 16 Pro for a reasonable £24 monthly plan, though there's a slightly higher initial cost of £25 upfront. The Daily Express recently put the Galaxy Z Fold7 through its paces. Tech editor Dave Snelling commented: "I've tried all of Samsung's previous Z Fold gadgets, and despite being blown away by the incredible technology, they have never replaced my normal phone. "However, that has all just changed. For the very first time, I'm actually truly smitten with a Samsung foldable. The tech giant has just released its new Z Fold7, and it really has to be seen to be believed. "Thanks to a new design and updated Armour FlexHinge, things have been seriously slimmed down this year, which makes the device feel much easier to handle." However, he did express some concerns, particularly about the cost. He noted: "Of course, all this tech does come at a very high price. The entry-level Z Fold7 with 256GB of storage starts from £1,799, with things rising to over £2,100 if you opt for the 1TB model."

Head to the App Store and never miss a beat in Lanarkshire - iOS - Android Funding for the investment is a result of the administration budget passed by the local authority earlier this year, with an additional £50,000 allocated to each of the 20 council wards. Councillors in each ward were asked to come up with proposals for how the new Local Action Fund should be spent, with final decisions to be taken by the executive committee. ‌ The first proposals were then unanimously agreed at a meeting of the executive committee. In the Cambuslang West Ward, councillors agreed to split the funding between several projects - the three main ones being £4000 to paint the railings at Cambuslang Park, £20,000 to refurbish the Toll Pitch Pavillion and £20,000 for the Women's Wellbeing Collective community group. The remaining £6000 of the ward's funding allocation is being considered for a community skips project, or if that is not possible then other community projects will be considered once the final costs of the painting and refurbishment projects are confirmed. ‌ Council leader Joe Fagan said: 'The Local Action Fund was agreed as part of our Building Back Budget and is designed to help each community with projects that might not cost a lot of money but can have a lasting and worthwhile impact for everyone who lives there. "Local councillors will be able to gauge from their constituents where the money could be best spent, and I am delighted that we have agreement for how the money should be spent in 13 of the 20 council wards, with the others to follow in due course. "The projects in Cambuslang West will benefit everyone in the local community."
