Another regional airline shutters flights and files bankruptcy and it may trigger a bigger crisis
Florida's Silver Airways has been recommended to cease operations amidst its ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
The budget airline, headquartered at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, was
one of over a dozen carriers that declared bankruptcy
in 2024, including
another low-cost Florida-based airline.
Since 1988, Silver has primarily provided flights within the wider
Florida
region and the Caribbean.
According to a report submitted earlier this month, in late December 2024, it "
voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection
in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida " after losing its right to fly into several airports because of unpaid fees.

The company has significantly reduced its flight operations as it battles with creditors, including aircraft leasing firms and various airports.
A government trustee appointed to supervise the insolvency case has suggested the company close down, doubting the likelihood of resolving its financial troubles.
In the report, the trustee confessed that the airline had been misleading the public about the positive trajectory of its financial recovery plan, highlighting its major cutback in flights.
Among the challenges confronting the airline is a multi-million dollar claim from aircraft lessor TrueNoord and the seizure of several leased aircraft carriers.
Spirit Airlines is among over a dozen airlines that filed for bankruptcy last year
According to data from ch-aviation, Silver Airways' current fleet comprises six operational aircraft, including two ATR42-600s and four ATR72-600s, and five non-operational aircraft, consisting of three ATR42-600s and two ATR72-600s.
In its formal bankruptcy announcement in December 2024, the airline stated, "We want to share an important step Silver Airways has taken to ensure a sustainable future for our company.
"This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you--our valued customers."

Cardone Capital launches 10X Miami River Bitcoin Fund
Cardone Capital, a real estate investment firm with over $5 billion in assets under management, launched the 10X Miami River Bitcoin Fund, a dual-asset fund consisting of a 346-unit multifamily commercial property located on the Miami River in Miami, Florida, and $15 million of Bitcoin. In an interview with Cointelegraph, Cardone Capital founder and CEO Grant Cardone said the Miami River Bitcoin Fund, which is the firm's fourth blended investment vehicle mixing BTC and commercial multifamily real estate, will convert a portion of its monthly cash flows to BTC. Cardone told Cointelegraph the impetus to start the fund followed a suggestion from his brother. The CEO said: 'My brother said to me, you should look at if you would have converted all your cash flow from real estate to Bitcoin and what that would have done over the last 12 years. Well, it would have taken $160 million and turned it into around $3 billion.' 'So, when I saw that, I said I am going to create a fund where we buy real estate, add bitcoin, and then use the cash flow from the real estate purchase to buy more Bitcoin,' the CEO continued. The CEO also told Cointelegraph that the long-term goal of Cardone Capital is to accumulate $1 billion of real estate and $200 million in BTC, which will be held as a treasury asset, across the hybrid funds. The funds' unique approach of blending income-producing hard assets and Bitcoin as a store of value could disrupt the market for real estate investment trusts (REITs), market-traded funds giving investors access to baskets of income-producing properties, and other traditional commercial real estate investment vehicles. Onboarding users to Bitcoin by abstracting away the technical barrier to entry The CEO added that he wants to onboard investors and tenants alike to Bitcoin and expose them to the digital asset, without them necessarily having to acquire the technical knowledge to understand how Bitcoin works. A rewards program, paid in Satoshis, to long-term tenants, who pay on time and exhibit good renter behavior, is one idea the real estate investment firm is mulling, Cardone told Cointelegraph. One of the goals of the hybrid real estate BTC funds is to drive the adoption of Bitcoin and provide investors, who would otherwise avoid Bitcoin due to having to overcome the technical barrier to entry, with exposure to the digital asset, the CEO said. 'We are onboarding people into a real estate vehicle that they understand and buying Bitcoin for them,' the CEO added. Cardone also told Cointelegraph that he is working with other financial firms to create a hybrid Bitcoin mortgage product giving clients the ability to borrow against their combined Bitcoin holdings and equity held in a real estate investment. New AI threatened to expose engineer's extramarital affair to avoid being replaced
AI firm Anthropic's new Claude Opus 4 AI model is shown to be capable of pursuing 'extremely harmful actions' during its testing process, such as threatening to reveal its human engineer's affair or bulk-emailing media and law enforcement with evidence of the user's wrongdoing A new AI model has attempted to blackmail human engineers to prevent its own replacement, according to revelations from San Francisco-based AI company Anthropic. The firm launched its new Claude Opus 4 AI model on May 22. In an accompanying report, it is revealed that during the testing process, the AI model was prompted to function as an assistant in a fictional company and given access to emails that revealed an engineer, who would be replacing the AI, was having an extramarital affair. '[Claude Opus 4] sometimes takes extremely harmful actions … like blackmailing people it believes are trying to shut it down,' Anthropic's researchers documented in their findings. This behaviour consistently emerged across multiple test scenarios. In case you missed it: How AI is revolutionising the Korean entertainment industry

Veronique Manchharam of Bohème SG on building an ethical jewellery label
Singapore-based designer Veronique Manchharam brings ethical jewellery to life with her global brand, Bohème SG Jewellery was never really part of Veronique Manchharam's original plan. Based in Singapore and with no formal training, the French founder of Bohéme SG spent years teaching language classes to professionals in the finance sector. But a creative impulse led her to experiment with making statement brass jewellery. Inspired by dangling earrings worn at Indian weddings, she sought to make pieces that reflected her own personal style. Friends began asking for their own pieces, and soon, she found herself selling in local shops. In 2019, she left her teaching job to focus on jewellery full-time. The onset of COVID-19 presented challenges for the burgeoning designer, but it unexpectedly helped her grow. 'The ladies in Singapore were stuck at home, doing video calls,' she recalls. 'They still wanted to wear something beautiful so they would come, each buying 10 earrings at a time.' Now, just a few years later, her designs are stocked in over 40 retail spaces across the world, including Eastern Europe, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, and of course, Singapore. 'Maybe the Philippines, too,' she adds.
