The budget airline, headquartered at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, was one of over a dozen carriers that declared bankruptcy in 2024, including another low-cost Florida-based airline. Since 1988, Silver has primarily provided flights within the wider Florida region and the Caribbean. The action came after the cash-strapped carrier failed to reach an agreement to renew an extension that would have allowed it to continue to fly the planes for another 60 days. A statement obtained from MCO's Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations Angela Starke read: 'We received notification yesterday afternoon that, effective immediately, all departing and arriving flights with Silver Airlines are canceled.' It is unclear what was behind the sudden cancellations.
