New PlayStation Mystery Studio Finally Revealed
Job postings for a new have been popping up recently, looking looking to create 'the next groundbreaking AAA original IP.' Rumors about who may be heading the studio have been swirling but haven't been confirmed until now.
In a recent interview with Jeff Gerstmann, video game industry veteran Jason Blundell confirmed he is the head of a new first-party PlayStation studio called Dark Outlaw Games.
'I've had the amazing opportunity to create a new studio within PlayStation Studios, for Sony. The studio is called Dark Outlaw Games. We've been working away in the shadows for a while, and when we have something to talk about, we'll step out into the light.'
'It's such a privilege we get to do [Dark Outlaw Games] with Sony as a new first-party studio. You know, Sony doesn't set up first-party studios all the time, so to have that privilege is humbling. I'm really excited.'
The studio is very much in its infancy as Blundell confirmed to Gerstmann that it is staffing up for its first project. However, he also states it has been working on hitting that 'escape velocity' for 'a little bit of time' now. The type of game Dark Outlaw Games is working on is currently unknown.
Blundell is primarily known for his time with developer Treyarch, where he helped on some of the most beloved Call of Duty games like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call if Duty: World at War.
Back in 2021, Blundell and fellow former Treyarch developer Dave Anthony formed the studio in a partnership with Sony called Deviation Games. A little over a year after its reveal, it was announced Blundell left the studio. The rumors that proceeded his departure were troubling, with the studio inevitably shutting its doors last year.

Summer Game Fest 2025: all the news, trailers, and announcements
It's that time of year again. With E3 done and gone, Summer Game Fest has taken its place, and it always makes for a busy few days in gaming. The centerpiece of the event is SGF Live on June 6th at 5PM ET, a keynote hosted by Geoff Keighley that, like The Game Awards, is packed with new game announcements as well as updates and trailers for games we already know about. But there are also a handful of other smaller showcases sprinkled throughout the week, including the Access-Ability Summer Showcase (June 6th at 11AM ET), Day of the Devs (June 6th at 7PM ET), the Wholesome Direct (June 7th at 12PM ET), and the PC Gaming Show (June 8th at 3PM ET). And that's not including standalone events from PlayStation and Xbox. It's a lot to keep track of, and you can follow along with the most important updates right here. Highlights The Access-Ability Summer Showcase returns with the latest in accessible games Today, 35 minutes ago Andrew Webster The fest begins soon. Summer Game Fest Live, the centerpiece of the new incarnation of E3, kicks off at 5PM ET, and you can watch along right here. Today, 11:50 AM EDT Geoffrey Bunting The Access-Ability Summer Showcase returns with the latest in accessible games Now in its third year, the Access-Ability Summer Showcase is back to redress the lack of meaningful accessibility information across the ongoing video game showcase season. As we see progress broadly slow down, it's also a timely reminder of the good work that's still happening in pursuit of greater accessibility in gaming. 'At a time where we are seeing a slowdown in accessibility adoption in the AAA games space,' organizer Laura Kate Dale says, 'we're showing that there are interesting accessible games being made, games with unique and interesting features, and that being accessible is something that can bring an additional audience to purchase and play your games.' May 28 Jay Peters Summer Game Fest might have a lot of games. Host Geoff Keighley shared a list of more than 60 'partners' that will be part of Summer Game Fest, including Annapurna Interactive, CD Projekt Red, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox. And the list is apparently just 'Round 1.'

Dakota Johnson Says ‘Madame Web' Flop ‘Wasn't My Fault': Decisions Are Made in Hollywood by ‘People Who Don't Have a Creative Bone in Their Body'
Dakota Johnson recently told the Los Angeles Times on her 'Materialists' press tour that 'Madame Web' flopping with critics and audiences wasn't her fault. The Sony-backed comic book movie was a notorious punching bag in winter 2024, earning a dismal $43 million at the domestic box office and an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Johnson headlined the film as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who gains the ability to see the future after a near-death experience. 'It wasn't my fault,' Johnson said about the movie. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body. And it's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with 'Madame Web,' it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.' More from Variety Dakota Johnson and Michael Angelo Covino's Open Marriage Comedy 'Splitsville' Cracks Up Cannes, Earning 6-Minute Standing Ovation 'Splitsville' Review: Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona Play the Field in an Exhausting Knockabout Romcom Topic Studios' Ryan Heller Returns to Cannes with Open Marriage Comedy 'Splitsville' starring Dakota Johnson Not that Johnson feels burned by the movie's reception. As she explained: 'I don't have a Band-Aid over it. There's no part of me that's like, 'Oh, I'll never do that again' to anything. I've done even tiny movies that didn't do well. Who cares?' The actor told Bustle last year a few weeks after 'Madame Web' nosedived in theaters that 'films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they're not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullshit.' Johnson is currently out on a press tour for 'Materialists,' the new A24 film from 'Past Lives' Oscar nominee Celine Song. Johnson stars opposite Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in the movie, which both embraces and subverts the romantic-comedy genre. It's Johnson's first rom-com since 2016's 'How to Be Single,' although that's not for lack of trying. 'They're not good,' Johnson said about all the rom-com scripts that came her way over the years. 'Sorry. I think a lot of what I read these days is void of soul and heart. And Celine is all soul and heart. I really love a rom-com if it feels like I can connect to the people in it. And I think I've found it hard to connect to the people in some of the ones that I've been offered.' 'Materialists' felt different for Johnson because of 'the complexities of all of the characters. The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the fuck they're supposed to do with their hearts. And what's the right move? I found that very honest and I found it just so relatable.' 'Materialists' opens in theaters June 10 from A24. Head over to the Los Angeles Times' website to read more from Johnson's latest interview. Summer Game Fest 2025 LIVE: Build-up, event times and everything to expect from this year's showcase
Summer Game Fest 2025 is about to get underway for another year and, following yesterday's launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Sony's recent State of Play, gamers are being spoilt this week. The spiritual successor to E3, SGF is the annual celebration of video games and the creators and we're totally here for it. We'll be following all the announcements as they happen live — with a bit of expert analysis from our clutch of in-house game experts here at Tom's Guide. The event begins with a live showcase broadcast direct from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles today, June 6, at 5pm ET/ 2PM PT followed by a host of other events running across the weekend. Look out for the Xbox Games Showcase taking place on Sunday. You can watch the Summer Game Fest live keynote on YouTube right here when it kicks off at 5pm ET/ 2pm PT / 10pm BST on June 6, 2025. Unlike E3, Summer Game Fest is a collection of smaller events that happen across the weekend. In all cases, these events are streamed live on Twitch and YouTube. But you need to know when they're happening. So make sure you add these to your calendar so you don't miss anything! Update: Date: 2025-06-06T13:02:45+00:00 Title: Xbox Game Showcase: What games could we see? Content: Many of us may be tuning into the Xbox Game Showcase to hear about the rumored handheld hardware, but let's not forget the games either. Microsoft could give us more details about Gears of War: Reloaded and possibly some news — maybe a release date — for Forza Horizon 6. Personally, I want to hear about any DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which, for my money, has been the best original Xbox game in a good long while. Update: Date: 2025-06-06T12:08:10+00:00 Title: Welcome! Content: Welcome to our Summer Game Fest 2025 live blog! What are we expecting from this year's event? In short, a lot. Sony has already pulled the trigger with its State of Play 2025 livestream earlier this week revealing the likes of 007 First Light, Silent Hill f and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. On the PC front we may see updates on titles like The Witcher 4 and maybe even a snifter of Resident Evil 9 (unlikely) from Capcom. We could also get some details on the rumored Xbox handheld collaboration between Asus and Microsoft. It's unlikely to take the wind out of Nintendo's sails, as there will surely be a heap of Switch 2 announcements from game studios too.
