Lauren Sanchez totes black Hermes bag in NYC... amid fashion world buzz over Jane Birkin's original $10M Birkin

Daily Mail17-07-2025
rocked a black Hermes bag as she joined her husband Jeff Bezos in New York City over the weekend.
The new Mrs. Bezos, 55 - who recently enjoyed a night out in Paris with A-list pals such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn - was seen stepping out of a sleek SUV alongside the Amazon tycoon following their extravagant Venice wedding.
Her latest excursion comes after it was rumored Sanchez was out bid for the original Birkin bag at a Sotheby's auction in Paris this week.
However, a source close to Sánchez-Bezos asserted to PuckNews that she did not participate in the auction.
Lauren showed off her figure wearing a pair of black fitted leggings as well as a white workout jacket that was partially zipped up at the front.
She slipped into a pair of comfy white sneakers and added a blue printed cap on top of her dark locks which were styled into a ponytail.
The former journalist sported a pair of fashionable shades while also carrying an Hermes crocodile Kelly bag in her hand - a model named for the iconic American actress turned princess, Grace Kelly.
Her latest excursion comes after it was rumored Sanchez was out bid for the original Birkin bag at a Sotheby's auction in Paris this week, which was later denied
Bezos - who has shown off new hair growth after being bald for over 10 years - kept it casual in a pair of blue denim jeans and a short-sleeved, black shirt for the outing.
He also opted for a pair of sneakers and held a brown leather bag as they headed towards their next destination.
Earlier this week on Thursday, the original Birkin bag - which was first designed for model Jane Birkin in 1984 - was auctioned off at Sotheby's in Paris to a private collector from Japan for a record-breaking $10.1 million.
It was reported that celebrities such as Sanchez and Kris Jenner had made calls to place a bid, per Vogue, although it is not confirmed.
One source alleged to ARTnews that Lauren had bid anonymously - but a separate insider claimed that she had never bid during the auction.
The bidding for the original Birkin - which was made in the color black and had Jane Birkin's initials underneath the handles - began a little over $1 million and lasted for 10 minutes.
The previous owner of the bag, who goes by the name of Benier, opened up to Vogue about the sell.
'I am astonished at the result, but, as a passionate collector myself, I am first and foremost profoundly moved by the way other collectors have invested so much fervor in trying to acquire what they clearly desired beyond words...'
She slipped into a pair of comfy white sneakers and added a blue printed cap on top of her dark locks which were styled into a ponytail
Benier later told the outlet, 'It is very difficult to imagine my life without this Birkin bag, but I am happy.'
Late last month in June, Sanchez and Bezos said 'I do' during a lavish three-day wedding extravaganza which took place in the romantic city of Venice.
A number of celebrities were in attendance including Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney and Orlando Bloom.
Lauren walked down the aisle wearing a custom Dolce & Gabbana dress that was made of an intricate lace overlay with buttons on the front and a corset-styled bodice.
The fabric on the gown pooled around the star and a sheer white veil was placed towards the back of her head which flowed down into a long train behind her.
And earlier this week, Lauren was spotted joining a few of close pals for a night out in Paris.
She put on a busty display wearing a figure-hugging, red leather minidress with a plunging neckline on the front.
Sanchez carried a black Birkin bag in her hand and allowed her long locks to cascade down past her shoulders.
Along with having a blast with Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, the former journalist was also joined by model Brooks Nader.
However, her new husband Jeff Bezos was notably absent from the night out in France on Tuesday.
That same day, the star was seen stepping out to attend the Balenciaga Haute Couture runway show during Paris Fashion Week.
She supported stars such as Naomi Campbell and Kim Kardashian as they modeled pieces during the glitzy event.
The beauty jumped to her Instagram stories to give a glimpse at some of the pieces modeled during the show.
Lauren later whisked herself away to the Allen and Company Sun Valley Media and Tech Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho on Wednesday - which has been dubbed as the 'summer camp for billionaires.'
She was seen strolling next to Bezos as they both made a joint appearance at the star-studded event.
Sex And The City alum Candice Bergen, Gayle King, Disney CEO Bob Iger and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan were also guests at the conference.
The annual event is held each year during the month of July - and was first launched back in 1983.
Sanchez flashed a smile towards Jeff as they held hands while making their way towards The Sun Valley Resort.

Zohran Mamdani throws lavish wedding party in Uganda

Socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani recently celebrated his wedding to his artist wife at a lavish compound owned by his family in Uganda. Mamdani, 33, shocked the political world when he defeated Andrew Cuomo to win the Democrat nomination to run the Big Apple, campaigning on far left policy and drawing controversy for his anti-Israel views. The state assemblyman recently took a break from the campaign to visit Uganda, where he was born and spent the first few years of his life being raised by his filmmaker mother Mira Nair and academic father Mahmood Mamdani. The far-left Queens politician reportedly held a three-day celebration after he eloped with 27-year-old illustrator Rama Duwaji this past February. Not only was the affair held in the wealthy Buziga Hill area of Kampala in a compound owned by his parents - the wedding party was watched by armed and masked security guards, with one witness claiming nine guards were watching one entrance. Security was so tight, the party even had a cellphone-jamming system, The New York Post reports. Invited guests partied past midnight to celebrate Mamdani and Duwaji - who met on the dating app Hinge - and their recent nuptials. One of the locals called the wedding in bad taste as the nation was in mourning for former Ugandan Supreme Court Judge George Kanyeihamba, with the party blocking the nation's president from visiting to pay the family his respects. Andrew Cuomo - still in the mayoral race as an independent following his primary defeat to Mamdani - attempted to poke fun at his rival. In a poll posted to X, he asked his followers to vote on whether Mamdani's three-day wedding was 'champagne socialism' or 'trust fund socialism.' has reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment. Mamdani's illustrator wife Rama Duwaji, 27, had been low-key during her husband's social media-driven campaign before joining him on stage when he celebrated victory on primary night. Some critics of the left-wing candidate, 33, had even accused him of 'hiding his wife from NYC ' during his bruising primary against former Governor Cuomo. But Duwaji was all smiles as she marked her husband's victory on stage, and wrote on Instagram that she 'couldn't possibly be prouder' of him as he shocked his establishment opponent. Mamdani, who met his wife on the dating app Hinge, lovingly addressed Duwaji in front of his crowd on primary night, saying 'Rama, thank you' as he kissed her hand. The potential future First Lady of the Big Apple says on her Instagram bio that she is 'from Damascus', however a Mamdani campaign spokesperson told the New York Times that she was actually born in Texas . She is best known for her illustrations and animations, many of which are pro-Palestine themed and criticize Israel and the Trump administration. Duwaji's artwork has appeared in numerous galleries including London's Tate Modern, and has been included in news outlets including the New Yorker, the BBC and the Washington Post. As his wife's lack of presence on the campaign trail became a source of ammunition for his opponents, Mamdani took on his critics with an Instagram post of his own. 'If you take a look at Twitter today, or any day for that matter, you know how vicious politics can be,' Mamdani wrote alongside images from their civil ceremony. 'I usually brush it off, whether it's death threats or calls for me to be deported. But it's different when it's about those you love. 'Three months ago, I married the love of my life, Rama, at the City Clerk's office. Now, right-wing trolls are trying to make this race – which should be about you – about her.' He added: 'You can critique my views, but not my family... (Rama) isn't just my wife, she's an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms.' Among Duwaji's recent artworks shared to her Instagram include calls to release previously detained Columbia student and pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was locked up by the Trump administration for months without being charged with a crime before he was freed in June. In May, she also shared an animation condemning Israel's treatment of civilians in Gaza, which showed a woman holding a bowl that read 'it's not a hunger crisis... it is deliberate starvation.' Duwaji's thrust into the limelight comes as her husband rapidly rose to national prominence with his surprise victory. The 33-year-old has faced mounting questions about his experience since he gained traction and ultimately won the Democratic primary, with his only public service work coming as a state assemblyman. In the state assembly, Mamdani promoted few bills, and his legislative record includes co-sponsoring bills requiring prisons to house inmates based on their self-declared gender, preventing law enforcement from asking about a perp's immigration status, and forcing small businesses to make their product packaging eco-friendly. Critics have said a Mamdani win will see the Big Apple slide back into the type of permissive lawlessness that scarred the city during the COVID crisis, but which woke locals and lawmakers scoffed at. When asked by Good Morning America about his lack of experience, Mamdani avoided talking about his record and turned the question back on his recent run for mayor. 'The experience that I show in this moment is to be able to meet the crisis that New Yorkers are facing, and deliver them a new kind of city,' he said. 'One that is unencumbered by the old ways.' Mamdani has described himself as 'Trump's worst nightmare', and his far-left policy platform sharply divided the nation as he gained traction in the mayor's race. He says he wants to raise taxes on the top one percent of New York earners - something the mayor does not have the authority to do - and make a number of city services free including childcare and buses. The city assemblyman has also proposed spending $65 million on transgender care, freezing rent on rent-stabilized apartments, and creating city-owned grocery stores. He has also advocated for defunding the city's police department, defended pro- Palestine slogans like 'globalize the intifada' - which critics say is an anti-Semitic call for the destruction of Israel - and said he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Wolfenstein 3 hopes reignited as live action TV show is announced

Amazon is developing a live action series based on Wolfenstein, as it continues to expand its roster of video game adaptations. There are so many TV and film adaptations of video games currently in production it's hard to keep up, between new seasons of The Last Of Us, animated Splinter Cell shows, another Street Fighter movie, an OutRun adaptation from Michael Bay, and many others. There's a chance some of them will not see the light of day (Netflix's take on Tom Clancy's The Division appears to be one such casualty) but Amazon, following the success of Fallout, has given the green light to a slew of projects based on video games over recent years. And now another one has been added to the pile, with a series based on the grandaddy of all first person shooters. According to Variety, Amazon is in development on a Wolfenstein live action series. While plot details are being kept secret, the official logline just about sums it up: 'The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.' The show is being created, written, and executive produced by Patrick Somerville, who has a pretty strong CV. He previously created Netflix's Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, along with HBO miniseries Station Eleven, which was nominated for seven Emmys. Wolfenstein developer MachineGames is involved too, with the studio's co-founder Jerk Gustafsson serving as an executive producer, alongside Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham via Kilter Films. If you're unfamiliar, Wolfenstein is a series of games set in an alternate history of the Second World War. The first two games by Muse Software were 1981's Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, which had a top-down perspective and were a very early example of a stealth game. The games remained little known until id Software purchased the rights and made 1992's Wolfenstein 3D – the precursor to Doom and the first widely popular first person shooter. More Trending Today, the series is synonymous with developer MachineGames, who rebooted the series in 2014, with Wolfenstein: The New Order and its sequel Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. These featured much more storytelling and social commentary, while maintaining a heightened sense of absurdity, and are presumably what the TV show will be based on. A third mainline game in the series has been rumoured for some time but never officially announced, and it's unclear what the studio is working on now following Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. Although they have hinted at a Quake reboot (also an id Software property) multiple times. The Amazon adaptation implies there's now a greater chance of a third game coming to fruition, if it isn't already underway. Job listings in 2023 suggested another sequel was in the works, and Bethesda's former head of publishing, Pete Hines, was very keen on the idea, but the poor sales of Wolfenstein 2 and its spin-offs has always left a third title in doubt. This Wolfenstein series is one of many video game adaptations currently in the works at Amazon. Along with Fallout and Secret Level, which are both getting second seasons, the company has green-lit shows based on Mass Effect, God Of War, and tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000 with Henry Cavill. Tom Cruise fans are only just realising his REAL name... and the heartbreaking reason why he changed it as an ambitious young actor

If you haven't heard of Tom Cruise, you've probably spent much of your life living with your eyes and ears wide shut. But Thomas Cruise Mapother IV doesn't ring the same sort of showbiz bells, and little wonder, given the screen icon ditched his birth name before establishing himself as a Hollywood star. Indeed, Cruise sought to abbreviate his name in a bid to distance himself from a volatile childhood in a strict Catholic household with father Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer, and mother Mary Lee Pfeiffer, a special education teacher. Born in Syracuse in 1962, Cruise grew up with his three sisters in near-poverty before moving to New York City when he was 18 to embark on an acting career that would ultimately turn him into one of the world's biggest, and wealthiest stars. Mapother III passed away following a battle with cancer in 1984, with Cruise later describing his biological father as a 'bully,' a 'coward' and a 'merchant of chaos' who would frequently intimidate and beat his four children. Speaking to Parade magazine in 2006, he recalled: '[My father] was the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. It was a great lesson in my life - how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang! 'For me, it was like, "There's something wrong with this guy. Don't trust him. Be careful around him." There's that anxiety.' The actor's mother divorced Mapother III in 1974, when the actor was 12-years old, and Cruise lost touch with him for a decade before reuniting at his hospital bed shortly before his death. 'When I saw him in pain, I thought, "Wow, what a lonely life,"' he said. 'He was in his late 40s. It was sad.' While millions of fans across the world know him only as Cruise, the actor is understood to retain his full surname among friends and family members. Conversely, Cruise's cousin, William Mapother - also a successful actor whose screen credits include hit TV show Lost and Hollywood blockbuster Zodiac - has maintained his birth-name throughout his career. Cruise has previously credited Scientology with helping him overcome his childhood dyslexia. Speaking in 2009, the Mission: Impossible actor told Spanish magazine XL Semanal that he was diagnosed with the learning disability when he was seven years old. The hardline Scientologist said he was often anxious, frustrated and bored as a youth and couldn't concentrate in class. Cruise explained he was 'functionally illiterate' when he graduated from school in 1980, but learned to read perfectly as an adult through Scientology technology. He told the publication: 'I asked myself if I was normal or an idiot. I would try to concentrate but I felt anxiety, frustration, boredom. 'When I graduated from high school in 1980 I was functionally illiterate. 'Nobody gave me a solution and I wanted to know why the system had failed. Finally, as an adult I learned to read perfectly through the method of (Scientology founder) L. Ron Hubbard.'
