Star India cricketer opens up on Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan performance in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Following an impressive domestic cricket performance, Karun Nair was picked in the squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With prior experience of playing of playing for the national side, Nair was looking forward to a good series.
However, he ended up having a below-par series, scoring only 205 runs in four Test match at an average of 25.62. Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan while rating the players based on their performance in the series, gave Nair a rating of just four.

'Karun Nair gets four out of ten. Why? He didn't look particularly poor throughout the series. He kept getting starts consistently but managed only one half-century. He got plenty of opportunities. Cricket definitely gave him a second chance, but he couldn't capitalise on it the way he should have. Especially in the Lord's Test, he had a real chance to win the match for India but couldn't do it,' said Pathan, speaking on his YouTube channel.
'Other than that, it often seemed like he was playing well, building up nicely, and then suddenly, he'd play a loose shot and get out. At the Oval, when the bouncer was used against him, he looked a bit shaken and seemed more unsettled and uncomfortable. So, he gets four points,' Nair added.
From the first Test to the last match at the Oval, it was always between Nair and Sai Sudharsan. Due to the combination, only one of them could have been included in the squad, however, following Leed's, the team has chosen to play with both once more.

While rating Sudharsan, Pathan gave him five, 'Sai Sudharsan gets five out of ten. He came across as a player who, with a bit of work on a few aspects, clearly has a lot of cricketing potential. He could have made better use of the opportunities he got but wasn't quite able to do so. However, I do believe that if he had played all the matches, things might have turned out differently, but it's not that easy.'
'When you go overseas, you get a chance, your team loses, then you get dropped, and later you're brought back. Even selecting a playing XI is a tough job. But as a player, he'll definitely feel that if he gets regular opportunities going forward, he can achieve a lot. I've always liked left-handed batters at the top of the order, and even in the last match when he got a chance, he scored a half-century and batted well. He has the ability to do well. That's why he gets five out of ten,' he added.

Former World Cup winning coach with India Gary Kirsten on Thursday revealed one of the highlights of his tenure with the Men in blue. And it does not involve the World Cup win in this instance. The South African focussed on a rather unexpected anecdote- asking pacer Ishant Sharma to practice batting in the nets so that he could help VVS Laxman save a Test against Australia in Mohali in 2010. 'One highlight in my three years with the Indian team was getting Ishant Sharma to come down to the nets with his batting pads and then to get him to face 48 balls in the Test match against Australia with VVS Laxman to win the game. That was a highlight for me to work on his batting,' Kirsten said. 'I really enjoyed that from a leadership perspective because he didn't think he could bat. And he still can't bat that well, but we kind of helped him get through that Test match and do really well,' Kirsten said. In the match, set a target of 216, India were left staring down the barrel at 124 for eight but Laxman (73 not out), first with Ishant (31), and then alongside No.11 Pragyan Ojha, guided India to a memorable one-wicket win. He also lauded Gautam Gambhir for his coaching prowess which led to India drawing the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. Kirsten was Gambhir's coach when the latter played a fine knock of 97 in the 2011 ODI World Cup final against Sri Lanka. 'I'm really happy for the Indian cricket team for levelling the series and it's great for Indian cricket. I'm really pleased for Gautam Gambhir as well, I know him well. Really delighted and pleased for what he's achieved with the team,' Kirsten said. 'They're (India) doing really well at the moment. The Maharaja T20 has been moved from Bengaluru to Mysuru after the M Chinnaswamy Stadium failed to get a clearance from the police to hold the tournament in light of the stampede that took place on June 4 outside the venue during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 triumph, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. Over the past week, most teams, except the Mysuru Warriors, have been training at various venues across Bengaluru. The inability to bag approval to host games at the Chinnaswamy Stadium could deal a major blow to the Karnataka State Cricket Association, with the venue all set to stage five Women's World Cup matches, including the opener and a semifinal, beginning September 30. According to the report, the International Cricket Council is not worried just yet about the possibility of moving the matches out of Bengaluru. The KSCA has come under intense scrutiny since the tragic incident on June 4, when 11 people lost their lives and over 50 were injured near the stadium during Bengaluru's IPL title celebrations. The stampede led to the resignation of two KSCA office bearers, who stepped down citing moral responsibility. In late July, a committee appointed by the Karnataka government to probe the stampede declared the Chinnaswamy Stadium unfit for hosting large-scale events. The commission advised shifting large-scale events to venues better equipped to manage substantial crowds. The late switch in venues for the Maharaja T20 has led to the Karnataka State Cricket Association having to arrange for makeshift stands. The KSCA have been preparing tracks as well, squares and temporary broadcast facilities at the Wadeyar Stadium in Mysuru.
