Reuters15 hours ago
August 16 - Akshay Bhatia recorded his first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour on Saturday during the third round of the BMW Championship in Owings Mills, Md.
Riding the momentum of a birdie at No. 16, Bhatia used a 5-iron off the tee of the 227-yard 17th hole at Caves Valley Golf Club. The shot landed just short of the pin and rolled into the cup.
Bhatia, 23, shot a 4-under-par 66 and is at even-par 210 through three rounds of the tournament.
A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, Bhatia entered the tournament at No. 29 in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to be at least No. 30 or better in order to advance to next week's Tour Championship at Atlanta.

Dana White puts final nail in coffin of Jon Jones' UFC return plans with brutal White House card statement

DANA WHITE has all but ruled out the prospect of Jon Jones headlining the UFC's White House card next year. The former light-heavy and heavyweight champion ended his retirement after just TWO WEEKS in July after learning of the promotion's plans to stage a fight card at Donald Trump 's residence. 4 4 4 White was initially open to having 'Bones' top the bill, but has since performed a public U-turn. The veteran promoter claimed he couldn't "trust" Jones enough to give him the honour of headlining the historic card after he pulled the plug on fighting Brit Tom Aspinall. And he brutally doubled down on his claim during the UFC 319 post-fight press conference on Sunday morning. He asked a reporter: 'What do you think Jon would do in the next couple of months that would make me trust putting him on the White House card?' 'I already said I don't trust him, and you're asking me, 'What could he do for me to trust him in the next three months?' "You don't trust him! 'I haven't talked to him at all. I would not bet on it. "If I have to make odds, it's a BILLION TO ONE [that] I put Jon Jones on the White House card.' 4 Jones, 38, was set to unify the heavyweight belts against interim titleholder Aspinall in a historic showdown at Madison Square Garden in November. But despite the UFC brass meeting his demands to be paid "f**k you money", he opted NOT to go through with the fight. The former pound-for-pound king insisted a bout with Wigan warrior Aspinall did nothing for his legacy. But he believes a fight at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will add to it. He said: "In a recent interview, I shared that the opportunity to fight at the White House gave me something deeper to fight for, a 'why' that goes beyond paychecks or belts. If I have to make odds, it's a billion to one I put Jon Jones on the White House card." Dana White on Jon Jones fighting at the White House "Fighting for my country gives me a greater purpose! "The silver lining in all this is knowing the fans see my heart. "They see, I am ready and willing to take on anyone, to represent my country on a historic stage. "For me, it's never been just about the opponent. I'm chasing legacy, something timeless, something bigger than the moment. "So for now, I'll keep grinding, stay patient, and stay faithful. I'm ready to fight on July 4th."

Phillies welcome back Aaron Nola in finale vs. Nats

August 17 - The Philadelphia Phillies expect to welcome back one of their star pitchers on Sunday, a day after they placed another on the injured list. Aaron Nola will make his long-awaited return to the rotation on as the Phillies vie for a split of their four-game series against the host Washington Nationals. Nola (1-7, 6.16 ERA) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list to make his first start with Philadelphia since May 14. The right-hander went on the injured list two days later with a sprained right ankle, and then dealt with a stress fracture in his right rib cage. Nola fared well in his third rehab outing with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, striking out 11 batters in 5 2/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday in Buffalo, N.Y. "It felt good to get the pitch count up a little bit and get back in the sixth inning," Nola said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. "The arm feels great; the ankle feels good. I'm glad to be able to finally get back on the field and catch and throw normally. I'm just excited to get back on the mound again for these guys and give them a chance to win again." The National League East-leading Phillies would like that very much, given that they lost for the fourth time in five games with a 2-0 setback to Washington on Saturday afternoon. Philadelphia was unable to solve Cade Cavalli, as the latter tossed seven scoreless innings to pocket his first win of his career. James Wood slapped a two-run double with two outs in the fifth inning to provide all the offense that Cavalli would need. Shortly after that defeat, the Phillies announced ace right-hander Zack Wheeler is headed to the 15-day injured list due to a blood clot in his right arm. There is no timetable for his return. "There's not a lot that we can say on it at this time," said Dave Dombrowski, the team's president of baseball operations. "It could have been a much more trying situation than it is." As for Nola, he is one season removed from recording 14 wins -- his most since he erupted for 17 in 2018. Nola, 32, allowed two homers and five runs total on six hits in 5 1/3 innings in a 5-1 setback at Washington on March 30. He is 10-9 with a 3.75 ERA in 34 career appearances (all starts) versus the Nationals. Nola may not be the only returning member of the Phillies, as third baseman Alec Bohm also is expected to be recalled from Lehigh Valley. Bohm has been sidelined since July 19 with a rib fracture. Trea Turner recorded his second three-hit performance of the series on Saturday. The speedy Turner is 8-for-14 in the set. Washington left-hander Mitchell Parker (7-13, 5.55) will be tasked with keeping Turner in check when he starts Sunday's game. Parker, 25, got the better of Nola in that game on March 30. The former scattered seven hits and struck out five batters over 6 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win on that day. All told, Parker is 1-1 with a bloated 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings over two career encounters versus the Phillies. He hasn't fared well of late, going 0-3 with a 10.67 ERA in three starts this month. He allowed just two hits -- albeit with five runs -- in 5 1/3 innings in an 8-5 setback to the Royals in Kansas City on Tuesday. "It still (stinks). It's still a loss," Parker said. "I gave up a couple runs and set them in motion to kind of run away with it." --Field Level Media

Inspired Scottish golfer Bob MacIntyre has a four-shot lead over world No 1 Scottie Scheffler going into Sunday's final round of the BMW Championship - helped by sinking a 41-foot putt to birdie the 18th. On a gripping third day at the Caves Valley course in Maryland, MacIntyre felt the heat from Scheffler and also the home crowd, but he proved his credentials with his stunning last shot to card a 68 and end his third round on a high. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad MacIntyre had raced to the top of the leaderboard by Friday night's halfway stage with scores of 62 and 64. He wasn't quite at that scintillating level on Saturday, struggling at times to hit the fairways, but he still holds a handy advantage going into the final round. Bob MacIntyre points to the crowd after landing a putt during his third round at the BMW Championship. | Getty Images A huge cash prize of $3.6 million awaits MacIntrye should he win the BMW Championship, which would be the biggest payday of his already stellar career. The 29-year-old from Oban has already won two titles since migrating to the PGA Tour with the Canadian Open and the co-sanctioned Scottish Open, while he finished second at this year's US Open. MacIntyre is also on the verge of officially joining Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose in qualifying for Europe's Ryder Cup team, although it is impossible to see him not being part of Luke Donald's squad. His ability to deal with American conditions was put to the test at Caves Valley. He bogeyed the first after a wayward second shot before a birdie on the par-five fourth, only to find himself in the trees on the fifth, ultimately saving par. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad He birdied again on the ninth and was clearly fired up, appearing to gesture unhappily at the crowd after sinking a putt to save par on the 14th. He narrowly missed a birdie putt on the 17th but it was all smiles on the 18th. What MacIntyre had to say about crowd 'It was a tough, tough start,' MacIntyre, who is sitting on a total score of -16, said. 'Going out with that lead is difficult but if I do my job well these guys have got to do really well to catch me. A 68 today, it was a struggle at times, through five or six holes, but it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog and I've got all the fight.' Asked about his clash with the galleries on the 14th, MacIntyre laughed as he talked about Ryder Cup rivalries. 'We're in America, playing against their sweetheart Scottie, who I get on well with, he's a great guy,' he said. 'I expected it today and I expect it again tomorrow. You give me crap, I'll give you crap back. I'm not scared of that.' Scheffler, back on -12, had closed the gap with birdies on the fourth, seventh and 11th holes, but a missed putt saw him bogey the 12th. He birdied again on the 14th to sign for a 67 that keeps him firmly in the hunt going into the final day. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Sweden's Ludvig Aberg will look to make it a three-horse race after his birdie on the 18th brought him within two shots of Scheffler at -10. Sam Burns and Harry Hall are two further shots back in a tie for fourth, one shot ahead of Fleetwood and Maverick McNealy. What time is Bob MacIntyre teeing off at BMW Championship? As the leader, MacIntyre will be part of the last pairing to embark on their final round at the BMW Championship on Sunday. He is due to tee off at 6.40pm BST alongside Scheffler, with Aberg and Burns the duo out before them at 6.29pm.
