Loni Anderson-Burt Reynolds: How they met, relationship details and divorce reason
Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a 'prolonged' illness, said her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan. 'We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,' Anderson's family said in a statement.
Her work in 'WKRP in Cincinnati' earned her two Emmy Award nods and three Golden Globe nominations.
However, apart from her professional achievements, Loni Anderson was in the media spotlight due to her much publicized marriage to and then divorce from Burt Reynolds, the actor known for movies like 'Navajo Joe'.
Here's how they met, and what went wrong between Loni Anderson and Burt Reynolds.
Loni Anderson-Burt Reynolds relationship, marriage details
Anderson and Reynolds reportedly first met on The Merv Griffin Show in 1981. The two reportedly began dating in 1982, and their movie 'Stroker Ace' came out in 1983.
They married five years after that. Burt gave Loni a 7-carat ring, which he'd designed, Los Angeles Times reported. They got married in Florida, and had 65 guests in attendance. The marriage was, as per People magazine, about their "love and respect for each other.'
Reynolds and Anderson ended up divorcing in 1994, but the very ugly affair would take another 22 years to be completely settled.
Loni Anderson-Burt Reynolds divorce details
Reynolds fired the first shots during the divorce process, sharing that the two had not had sex in years.
Speaking to 'Good Morning America: Evening Edition', he said 'I don't see how she can be in total shock when you have not … if your husband has not touched you in the biblical sense … in almost three years. How can you be surprised?'
Shortly after the split, Reynolds also accused Anderson of cheating on him and said he'd caught her too. He said that he too had an affair, but that was only after he was convinced Anderson was cheating on him.
The actor went on to suggest sodium pentathol could prove who'd cheated first, only if Anderson took him up on the challenge. He also accused her of being an underemployed actor, and having a 'lousy self esteem'. She was also accused of being a bad mother to their son, Quinton.
Reportedly, his divorce cost him over $2 million, and he paid around $47,000 a month in divorce-related expenses.
Anderson, meanwhile, told SFGate in 1995, 'I said to everybody, 'Don't get sucked into this, or it will become a circus. Burt wants to make a war — let him be in it all by himself. Someday, I will talk'.
She said she didn't understand the reason for the split and that Burt not only threw her out of the house but also humiliated her with his accusations about her mothering.
Loni Anderson also accused Burt Reynolds of physically abusing her multiple times, which she blamed on his drug use. She also noted that they hadn't spoken since the split and was worried about her ex-husband's 'erratic behavior', so much so, that Anderson insisted a nanny be present when their son went to visit his father. One time, Reynolds threw a chair at the regular nanny, Anderson alleged, and someone else had to cover for her.
Burt Reynolds also ended up declaring bankruptcy before paying Anderson the full amount she was owed. In September 2015, the matter was put to rest after auctions, rehab stints, and IRS interventions.
Reynolds wrote a $154,520 check that put the matter to rest. Speaking to People a few months later, he said 'I should have known that you don't marry an actress. That was a really dumb move on my part.'

This Couple Charged Guests $997 To Attend Their Wedding, Here's Why
Last Updated: Marley Jacques and Steve J Larson's wedding in Eagle, Idaho, raised over Rs 1.1 crore for charity, funding a school in Kenya News18 At a time when weddings are often synonymous with extravagance, an US couple has flipped the script, turning their nuptials into a ticketed event and raising over Rs 1.1 crore for charity in the process. A report by People magazine has revealed the story of 34-year-old Marley Jacques and 37-year-old Steve J Larson, two entrepreneurs who hosted what might be one of the most unconventional weddings in recent memory. Held on August 1 in Eagle, Idaho, their wedding was not just a personal milestone, but also a fundraising event, complete with paid entry and VIP perks. The couple, who have experience organising business events, found the traditional cost of American weddings excessive. Even a cake-cutting service, they discovered, could cost up to $650 (Rs 54,000). 'We did not want to make our wedding a burden. We wanted people to just bear the cost of their food instead of gifts and be a part of this experience," Jacques explained. So, instead of following convention, they created what they described as a 'self-funded wedding model". Guests were invited to buy tickets to attend. Two tiers were offered – a basic ticket priced at $57 (roughly Rs 4,750) which included access to the ceremony and reception, and a VIP ticket costing $997 for two people (about Rs 83,000), which came with added benefits like a rehearsal dinner, a 'biohacking brunch", a post-wedding recovery session, and even brand mentions in the wedding programme. Surprisingly, 100 basic tickets and 30 VIP tickets were sold. While close friends and family were invited free of charge, tickets were bought by people from the couple's professional and social media networks. The event itself was anything but ordinary. Guests were treated to luxury ice cream, cookies, and cake. Music came courtesy of live DJs and artists. VIP attendees had access to wellness activities including breathwork, red light therapy, and brain optimisation. Although the concept was met with some criticism online with some calling it 'petty" or a 'money-making trick", Jacques and Larson were clear about their intentions. They said the goal was never profit but to make the event financially neutral and socially impactful. In fact, they donated the surplus funds, $96,200 by the night of the wedding, to Village Impact, a nonprofit that supports education and infrastructure in Kenya. Additional money was raised during the post-wedding brunch, bringing the total to $132,550 (roughly Rs 1.16 crore). The couple is now set to travel to Kenya in July 2026 to help construct the school their wedding proceeds will fund. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel Have No Talent: Trump As 'The Late Show' Is Cancelled
Washington: US President Donald Trump called popular late-night host Stephen Colbert 'talentless' after CBS announced it would cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert following a 10-year run. Speaking at a press conference at the White House, President Trump criticised Colbert and predicted that other late-night hosts such as Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel would also lose their shows soon. "Colbert has no talent. I mean, I could take anybody here. I could go outside in the beautiful streets and pick a couple of people that do just as well or better. They get higher ratings than he did. He's got no talent. Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They're next. They're going to be going. I hear they're going. Colbert has better ratings than Kimmel or Fallon," Trump said while addressing the media on Wednesday (Local Time). This is not the first time Trump has attacked Colbert's abilities. Following the cancellation announcement, Trump expressed his happiness in a post on his Truth Social platform and also took aim at Jimmy Kimmel. "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show," Trump posted on July 18. CBS, however, said the cancellation was not related to the show's performance. In a statement, the network said, the cancellation of 'The Late Show' was purely a "financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night" and is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount, in reference to the possible acquisition of its parent company, Paramount Global, by Skydance. The decision has surprised many, including fellow late-night host Andy Cohen. Speaking to Deadline at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Cohen called the cancellation "a sad day for late-night television". "I think it's a sad day for late-night television. I think it's a sad day for CBS. I think Stephen Colbert is a singular talent. He's going to have an incredible next chapter," Cohen said. "I can't believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I'm stunned. He's one of three late-night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show," he added. According to PEOPLE, Colbert made the announcement during the show's taping on July 17 at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York. He took over the programme in September 2015, following the retirement of David Letterman. The show is expected to end in May next year.
