Clayton Kershaw goes for an even dozen against the Mets

Clayton Kershaw goes for an even dozen against the Mets

Yahoo4 days ago

The way things have been going offensively for the Dodgers in the last couple of days, they'll welcome the increased velocity from Tylor Megill's 95 MPH heaters. After opening up the weekend set against the Yankees with back-to-back wins, Dodger bats struggled in losses against the soft-tossing Ryan Yarbrough from the Yankees and Paul Blackburn from the Mets. Not only that, but despite not getting the win in the first game against the Mets, the Dodgers became the first team this season to force a blown save from the flame-throwing closer Edwin Díaz
Anticipation will certainly build towards the potential return of Mookie Betts, who has missed the last four games with a toe fracture, something he suffered in a regular home accident, getting out of bed.

Betts isn't off to the greatest of starts with the bat in 2025, not by any means, but his absence creates a ripple effect in my lineup, ultimately demanding a bit more out of every other hitter. It should also be noted that the glove work from Betts has evolved so much that they miss him out at shortstop these days.
At least one change is certain from the lineup that started this series with Will Smith starting at catcher instead of the youngster Dalton Rushing who has featured in the lineup in every Dustin May start since his call-up.
On the pitching side, Clayton Kershaw will get a second crack at facing the New York Mets after his previous start against them was cut short due to a rain delay in Citi Field. Kershaw is not the pitcher he once was; he is not even necessarily the still incredibly productive arm he was a couple of years back, but after a rough first start, the future first Hall of Famer has shown promise. Given the current state of this staff, the Dodgers will take all the help they can get, and a veteran coming off one run in five innings of work certainly fits the bill.
Across his historic career, one of the teams Kershaw has dominated the most is the New York Mets, and he'll put on the line this Tuesday an undefeated 11-0 regular season record against them. Kershaw has a 2.00 ERA in over 100 innings against this NL East opponent, and those 11 wins are the most he has against any opponent in the regular season without a loss.

Yankees Announce Anthony Volpe Update After Scary Hit-By-Pitch vs. Red Sox

Yankees Announce Anthony Volpe Update After Scary Hit-By-Pitch vs. Red Sox originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Yankees are currently teeing off on the Boston Red Sox in the first game of a three-game set in the Bronx Friday, with three hits from Aaron Judge and a three-run home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr propelling the Bombers to a 8-1 start. Advertisement Shortstop Anthony Volpe was among the batters to have a standout moment, with his two-run home run in the first giving the Yankees a 5-0 lead off of former Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler. Volpe was promptly hit on the elbow by a pitch from Buehler in the second inning, and exited as a 'precautionary' measure. At time of writing, a new update has come in on Volpe from the Yankees. While Volpe was examined by head trainer Tim Lentych, manager Aaron Boone walked out of the huddle in a move that didn't strike too much concern, though the Yankees clearly didn't want Volpe to suffer a further injury. Advertisement Volpe's home run in the first inning was just his third home run since May 12th, and his offense has improved notably. His 20.7% chase rate is in the 90th percentile in baseball, and his .300 batting average and .786 OPS with the bases loaded have been massive for the Yankees in the midst of their pennant chase. Red Sox Make Surprising Marcelo Mayer Announcement Before Yankees Game

Red Sox Make Surprising Marcelo Mayer Announcement Before Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees took the first game of a three-game set on Friday against the Boston Red Sox in what was the first of 13 games against their fierce rivals. Advertisement In the Bronx, rookie Will Warren delivered a solid performance, though two of his four runs in 5 1/3 innings came off of Brent Headrick after Warren's exit. Trailing 7-0, the Red Sox opened the scoring off of Warren in the fifth inning in emphatic fashion, with former No. 2 prospect Marcelo Mayer connecting on his first career home run off of Warren. Boston Red Sox shortstop Marcelo Mayer (39), right, and Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (10) prepare for a hit against the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh inning at American Family McLoone-Imagn Images After Mayer's home run, the Red Sox made a surprising announcement, leaving Mayer out of Saturday's lineup. Mayer's home run was his first in 34 professional at-bats, and he's slashing .167/.167/.167/.333 against lefties, so manager Alex Cora clearly didn't like the optics of the youngster facing lefty Ryan Yarbrough, who has been surprisingly sharp for the Yankees. Advertisement Mayer did get his home run ball back, as a group of young fans traded his prized artifact for a few autographs and photos after the game. The blast cut the Red Sox' deficit to 7-1, and despite a fierce comeback, the Sox fell to their rivals 9-6, with Devin Williams getting a much-needed stress-free save in the win. The Sox are continuing to face a decision on top prospect Roman Anthony, and chief executive Craig Breslow is in Worcester to watch Anthony play for the WooSox tonight. Mayer hasn't necessarily started his MLB career in strong fashion, but much time is left for him to turn it around.
