Hamas Delegation Leaves Qatar for Turkey After Ceasefire Talks Stall

Morocco World3 days ago
Rabat — Hamas negotiators left Qatar's capital Doha on Tuesday and traveled to Turkey to discuss the latest developments after ceasefire talks with Israel reached a deadlock.
In a statement to AFP, a senior Hamas official said that a high-level delegation led by Mohammed Darwish, chairman of the movement's steering council, departed for Istanbul.
The delegation includes the negotiation team and its leader, Khalil al-Hayya.
'The delegation will hold several meetings with Turkish officials about the latest developments in the ceasefire negotiations, which broke down last week,' the official said.
Indirect talks between Israeli and Hamas delegations ran for more than two weeks under the supervision of mediating countries, including Qatar, Egypt, and the US.
The negotiations aimed to reach a ceasefire agreement and secure the release of Israeli hostages, nearly 22 months after the Israeli genocide started.
President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that Hamas 'didn't want a deal' and wanted to 'die,' while his envoy Steve Witkoff had acknowledged the talks' failure the day before and questioned Hamas' good faith.
Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas' political bureau, told AFP on Friday that recent discussions focused on details of Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Other Hamas officials expressed surprise at US statements from the US, particularly taking issue with the suggestion that the negotiations were making progress.
On Tuesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar rejected international pressure for a ceasefire, saying it would be a 'tragedy' if Israel stopped its genocidal war on Gaza while Hamas remains in power and continues to hold hostages.
Negotiations between Hamas and Israel have been stalled for months, primarily delayed by the Israeli side.
Meanwhile, IOF imposed a border closure and denied entry of food and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, leading to the death of over 133 civilian Gazans due to famine-related issues. Tags: Gazagaza genocideHamas and Israel

Gaza Genocide: Slovenia Becomes First EU Country to Impose Arms Embargo on Israel

Rabat – Slovenia has become the first European Union nation to impose an arms embargo on Israel in response to Tel Aviv's genocidal war on Gaza Prime Minister Robert Golob announced the news on Thursday. The decision has imposed an embargo on the export, import, and transit of all arms to Israel, to stop the genocide in Gaza. Ljubljana had declared several far-right Israeli government ministers persona non grata last week. Slovenia recognized the Palestinian state last year in June. Slovenia has been one of the main voices of opposition in Europe against the Israeli government. Now, they have become the first country to block arms sales. President Natasa Pirc Musar had previously told the European Parliament that the EU needed to take much stronger actions against Israel, calling their war a genocide. The Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon on Thursday said that Slovenia would keep all further measures on the table, 'We support the suspension of Israel's Accession Agreement, all trade sanctions, an arms embargo, sanctions against settlers, and ministers who support violence.' Fajon also rejected any idea of consolidation or resolution between the two countries until the violence had stopped, and a ceasefire was announced. Golob on Thursday said that Israel's actions constitute serious and intolerable violations of international law, saying that thousands of Palestinians, 'were dying because humanitarian aid has been systematically denied to them.' This confirms recent announcements from the United Nations, which has stated that it believes that nearly half a million people could face famine before the end of September. International pressure has grown consistently in recent weeks, with France, Canada, and the UK announcing that they would recognise a Palestinian state unless Israel stops its war in Gaza. This brave decision by the Slovenian government could inspire other European nations to make similar announcements. Tags: Genocide GazaIsrael genocide

IOF Killed Over 1,000 Aid Seekers in Gaza Since May

Rabat – New disturbing data shows that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have killed over 1,000 Palestinians since May. The UN data said that 859 Palestinians were killed near aid sites, while the rest were killed while waiting along food convoy routes. 'Most of these killings were committed by the Israeli military,' the UN added. The disturbing findings come amid the ongoing genocidal war, targeting unarmed civilians across Gaza. On Friday, the IOF killed at least 10 Palestinians in separate incidents across Gaza. Three were waiting for needed humanitarian aid, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. During one of the incidents, three people were killed and 30 were injured by Israeli forces. Five other Palestinians were killed and 20 others were injured in an Israeli airstrike.. Since dawn, the IOF has killed at least 24 people, including five people who were waiting for humanitarian aid amid the Israeli starvation campaign on civilians. Since October 2023, IOF's genocidal war has killed at least 60,239 people, while over 146,894 others were injured. 'Thousands of victims are feared trapped under rubble, inaccessible to emergency and civil defense teams due to Israeli attacks,' Wafa reported. Over 154 people died of starvation in Gaza despite urgent appeals, calling on the IOF to allow aid to enter Gaza, where people die not only due to the IOF's airstrikes and gunshots but also from hunger. Palestinian official praises King Mohammed VI's emergency aid to Gaza

Mahmoud al-Habbash, Mahmoud Abbas's adviser on religious and Islamic affairs, praised the emergency humanitarian and medical aid ordered by King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, for the Palestinian people, particularly the residents of the Gaza Strip. He described the gesture as a generous initiative that adds to the King's ongoing support for the Palestinian cause. In a statement to the Moroccan news agency (MAP) on Thursday, al-Habbash said, «We commend this noble initiative by His Majesty the King, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and deeply appreciate His Majesty's strong humanitarian and solidarity-driven commitment to the Palestinian people, especially those in Gaza». He noted that Palestinians have grown accustomed to such humanitarian efforts from the Kingdom of Morocco, which reflect the steadfast commitment of the Moroccan people, under the King's leadership, to upholding the values of solidarity and support for the Palestinian cause. The Palestinian official stressed that this humanitarian initiative is «further evidence of the historic responsibility that His Majesty the King, as Chair of the Al-Quds Committee, continues to uphold in supporting the Palestinian people and defending their rights». On Wednesday, Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates announced that King Mohammed VI had instructed the delivery of urgent humanitarian and medical assistance to the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza. The aid package, totaling around 180 tons, includes essential food items, milk and baby supplies, medicines, surgical equipment, blankets, tents, and other relief materials for the most vulnerable populations.
