Lynx crush Bueckers-less Dallas, start season 9-0
Lynx crush Bueckers-less Dallas, start season 9-0 originally appeared on Bring Me The News.
The Minnesota Lynx have roared to a 9-0 record after dismantling the Dallas Wings 81-65 Sunday in Arlington, Texas. It's the best start for the Lynx since the 2017 team started 9-0, but still shy of the WNBA record 13-0 start to the 2016 season by the Lynx.
Napheesa Collier led the Lynx with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Kayla McBride hit six three-points and finished second on the team with 21 points, No one else on the team scored in double figures.
Minnesota scored the first seven points of the third quarter Sunday night to increase their lead to 14, but they scored only four points over the final six-plus minutes and by the time the fourth quarter started their lead had shrank to one point at 57-56.
But in the final quarter, the Lynx outscored Dallas 24-9, fueled by a defense that limited the Wings to only three points over the first 6 minutes, 45 seconds of the 10-minute quarter.
The Wings were playing without Minnesota native and the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Paige Bueckers. The Hopkins native and former UConn star missed three straight games while in the concussion protocol, and an illness kept her off the court Sunday.
"Just dealing with an illness and just being extremely cautious and supportive as an organization," Wings coach Chris Koclanes said. "Hope to have her back soon."
Up next: Lynx at Seattle, Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT.

Why Wings' Paige Bueckers is still out despite clearing concussion protocol
The post Why Wings' Paige Bueckers is still out despite clearing concussion protocol appeared first on ClutchPoints. Paige Bueckers has missed the past three games for the Dallas Wings due to being in concussion protocol. She had been progressing well over the past few days, and on June 7, the team announced that she had cleared the protocol and was listed as probable for Sunday afternoon's game against the Minnesota Lynx. Unfortunately, the reason she was listed as probable was because of an illness. Advertisement A few hours before the game, Bueckers has been listed as out due to that illness, according to Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. The Wings are hoping that they can get Bueckers back soon, as they're currently 1-8 to start the season. They've lost four games in a row, with their last loss coming against the Los Angeles Sparks. The Lynx are one of the best teams in the league, and the Wings will have a tough task ahead of them without Bueckers. Along with Bueckers, the Wings will also be without Tyasha Harris, who is out due to a left knee injury. Teaira McCowan will be out as she is set to join Turkey for EuroBasket. After their recent loss, head coach Chris Koclanes spoke about his performance as a coach to start the season. Advertisement 'Poor. Just trying to figure it out and it just seems like we can't get everybody on the same page,' Koclanes said via Mistretta. I'm not going to make excuses. I won't chalk it up to… It hurts when you don't have a Paige (Bueckers) or a Ty (Harris) who are people who really bring organization on the offensive end. It challenges you in different ways… Myisha (Hines-Allen) has struggled here past couple days, haven't been able to help her find a groove so that hasn't helped either as someone who can facilitate from the post position.' Hopefully, when the Wings start to get relatively healthier, things will start to click for them and they can stack some wins. Paige Bueckers clears concussion protocol, but status still uncertain for Lynx-Wings clash
The post Paige Bueckers clears concussion protocol, but status still uncertain for Lynx-Wings clash appeared first on ClutchPoints. Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers has missed the team's last three games while in concussion protocol. On Thursday, Bueckers was a noncontact participant in practice. Although she did not play on Friday in the Wings' 93-79 loss to the Sparks, she was clearly trending in a promising direction. Advertisement On Saturday, the team announced that Bueckers cleared concussion protocol. However, she is still being listed as probable for Sunday afternoon's contest against the Minnesota Lynx due to an illness. Overall, Dallas holds a 1-8 record. The Wings have dropped four consecutive contests heading into Sunday. It goes without saying, but the 8-0 Lynx will present an intimidating obstacle. The Wings' chances of pulling off a shocking upset will increase if Paige Bueckers is made available, however. Regardless of whether or not she plays, Dallas will be without Tyasha Harris, who has been ruled out due to a left knee injury. Teaira McCowan also won't be available as she prepares to join Turkey for EuroBasket. Harris' injury remains uncertain. The Wings have not provided many new updates on the situation. She did not practice on Thursday. Advertisement McCowan, a center, will be missed as the Wings need all of the help they can possibly get in the post. To make matters worse for Dallas, another center in Luisa Geiselsoder will also be leaving for EuroBasket to play for Germany on June 14. Losing both McCowan and Geiselsoder leaves Dallas with limited options at the center position. Myisha Hines-Allen will likely continue to start, but the Wings unquestionably need to add more depth at the position. As for Paige Bueckers, it seems as if she is on track to return unless the illness ends up keeping her out. Her probable status is certainly promising, though. We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Bueckers' status as they are made available. WNBA encourages girls to ‘get buckets' with new ‘Line Em Up' campaign
The post WNBA encourages girls to 'get buckets' with new 'Line Em Up' campaign appeared first on ClutchPoints. In an effort to increase accessibility for young women interested in basketball and the WNBA, the league has announced an initiative to bring its official three-point line to courts in parks nationwide. Advertisement The initiative, dubbed 'Line 'Em Up,' will also include donations from the league to each participating park, according to a press release. 'The park has always been at the heart of basketball,' the Line 'Em Up website reads. 'The ultimate proving ground where anyone can step up and make a name for themselves. Well, almost anyone. For too long, park courts have been dominated by men, leaving women to have to fight for every inch of space on the court. While some broke through, too many have been left on the sidelines. 'And we're not about that.' The site adds that Line 'Em Up will 'give girls and women undeniable equity at the park by painting the Fire Orange WNBA 3-point line on park courts across the country.' Advertisement The color orange has been synonymous with the WNBA's branding for years, seen everywhere from the iconic orange WNBA hoodies to the panels on the official basketballs. Seeing the orange on the three-point line in the park will give young women a clear signal that they are welcome. 'When a young girl walks onto that basketball court and sees the WNBA orange 3-point line, they know that they're being represented in a democratic community space where they once were not,' WNBA CMO Phil Cook told USA Today. The WNBA three-point line is currently 22 feet and 1.75 inches from the basket — the same distance used in college and internationally. But many parks still use only the old college line (19 feet, 9 inches or more recently 20 feet, 9 inches) and the NBA line (23 feet, 9 inches). As Cook explained, that's what makes it more than just an upgrade for local parks. Advertisement 'The entire WNBA was not represented in this space,' he said. 'Dropping that line down now represents an entire league's identity and can drive participation and authenticity in this space.'
