Anupam Kher On Tanvi The Great Being Overshadowed By Saiyaara: 'Agar Paisa Hi Sab Kuch Hota...'

News184 days ago
Anupam Kher's emotional drama Tanvi The Great, released on July 18, 2025, struggled commercially against Mohit Suri's Saiyaara.
When two films release around the same time, comparisons are inevitable and so is competition. That's exactly what happened when Anupam Kher's emotional drama Tanvi The Great hit theatres on the same day as Mohit Suri's glossy romantic saga Saiyaara. While the latter raced ahead at the box office, raking in over Rs 500 crore and winning over the masses with its music and young star cast, Tanvi The Great struggled to find the same commercial success.
But Anupam Kher isn't losing sleep over it. For him, films are about emotions and not earnings. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, the veteran actor said, 'I don't believe that's true," when asked if he thinks his film didn't do well due to the Saiyaara craze.
'A few years down the line, when someone will ask you what are your five favourite films, you won't name the ones based on which of these movies made a business worth crores. You'll name the ones which touched your hearts," the actor added.

'Maybe Tanvi The Great didn't mint much money, but it is still priceless. I recently met a lady outside the theatre who hugged me tightly and started crying saying this was the best film she has ever watched," Kher continued.
In a world obsessed with numbers, Kher's words offered a much-needed pause. 'You don't value everything based only on money. Agar paisa hi sab kuch hota to phir log hamesha five star hotel me hi khate na, dhaba koi kyu jata."
Despite the lukewarm collections, he shared that he stands firmly behind his film. 'My film is outstanding commercially," he said.
While Saiyaara continues to dominate screens with its box office clout and Gen-Z charm, Tanvi The Great is quietly winning hearts. The film is directed and produced by Anupam Kher. It stars him alongside Iain Glen. Tanvi The Great was theatrically released on July 18, 2025.

Neil Nitin Mukesh Calls Shah Rukh Khan, Kartik Aaryan Role Models For Outsiders: 'Nepotism Never Helped...'

Neil Nitin Mukesh says nepotism never helped him despite belonging to a film family. The actor praises Shah Rukh Khan and Kartik Aaryan as inspirations. Neil Nitin Mukesh may belong to one of Bollywood's most respected musical lineages—he is the son of playback singer Nitin Mukesh and grandson of the legendary Mukesh—but the actor insists that nepotism has never worked in his favour. In fact, he says he is still battling to land his next acting job despite his family background. In a candid conversation with Screen, Neil said he doesn't believe in the label 'nepotism" when it comes to his journey, 'I have had the privilege of being born and brought up in the film fraternity, but my struggle nullifies that word for me. It never helped me; I am still struggling to find my next job. It changes perception, yes. But when it comes to work, nobody has supported Mukesh ji, Nitin Mukesh ji or me in that regard. Three generations have faced enough struggles. We've worked very hard all our lives to sustain our craft and put food on the table." According to Neil, talent will always outweigh connections in the industry. He believes that no matter how many opportunities come your way, an actor cannot survive without skill, 'The current generation of stars… look at Shah Rukh Khan sir, isn't he the benchmark? Isn't he the idol, not just for being the biggest superstar in the world, but also for being an outsider who came and conquered? We all draw inspiration, even I do, from actors like Shah Rukh sir or Kartik Aaryan, who hails from a non-film family. He has such a simple and nice family. I love his relationship with his mother and father; it's very refreshing to see that." Neil was last seen in the musical drama series Hai Junoon, alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Siddharth Nigam, Priyank Sharma, Anushka Sen, Sumedh Vasudev Mudgalkar, Elnaaz Norouzi, Elisha Mayor, and Kunwarr Amarjeet Singh. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the show is currently streaming on JioHotstar. The actor has yet to announce his next project, but for now, he remains steadfast in his belief that hard work and perseverance—not lineage—are the real keys to longevity in the industry.
