A couple accused of child neglect after a six-year-old boy was found sleeping on a floor in his school uniform have been sent forward for trial.
The boy's younger sibling was sitting in a buggy in front of a TV, wearing a soiled nappy, and a third child was still awake and appeared 'dishevelled' when gardaí conducted a welfare check in the early hours of the morning.
Gardaí found the defendants intoxicated and there was evidence of drug use, it is alleged.
The couple, who are in their 30s and cannot be named to protect the children, are facing charges of child neglect.
They were served with the book of evidence when they appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.
The DPP had directed summary trial of the allegations in the district court but Judge David McHugh, after hearing a summary of the evidence, refused jurisdiction.

A State solicitor said the book of evidence had been served on the accused, who go forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The couple was remanded on continuing bail to appear before the circuit court in July.

'She just was in a chaotic lifestyle,' said Ms Mimnagh. 'She is doing really well and working full time now.' Ms Mimnagh added how her client had managed to turn her life around by steering clear of any garda attention for a 'considerable length of time'. Kathleen Delaney was ordered to engage with probation services for the purposes of a restorative justice report. In delivering her verdict, Judge Gearty said the case was one which merited Delaney engaging with probation in an attempt to understand the error of her ways by also perhaps reaching out to her male victim or by making a donation to charity. 'Restorative justice is one of the buzz words that's floating around at the minute and it strikes me that this is a situation that if (she) is apologetic for what she has done she could write him a letter (or) she could make a donation to the charity of his choice,' she said. Delaney was remanded on bail to appear back before a sitting of Longford District Court on September 2 for the preparation of a restorative justice report.

McDonagh, who is originally from Carlow, had got into a 'completely toxic relationship' with an 'unsavoury' person who introduced her to a 'lifestyle of criminality', her solicitor Matthew de Courcy said. She was already serving another sentence when she appeared in court. The judge gave her a concurrent jail term.

Dolan, who had trained as a hairdresser and worked in a deli, had never been arrested or detained before and was extremely distressed by the situation. The accused had been adamant that she wanted to take responsibility and deal with the matter as soon as possible, so pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and apologised. Ms McNicholl asked the judge to consider leaving Dolan without a conviction. Judge Clancy said this was a 'very big ask' as the charge was 'quite serious'. The accused would be aware of the issues around drug misuse and having cannabis at her home was not a good example for her children, the judge said.
