Teenage SA cricket prodigy Lhuan-dre Pretorius gets late IPL call-up

Rising South African cricket prodigy Lhuan-dre Pretorius has been called up to the Indian Premier League (IPL), joining the Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Nitish Rana who has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to a calf injury.
The 19-year-old sensation has been one of the standout performers in the 2024/25 season.
Pretorius made waves during his debut campaign in the SA20, where he topped the run-scoring charts with 397 runs at a blistering strike rate of 166.81, including a headline-making 97 off 51 balls on debut for the Paarl Royals.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius also shone on the international stage, emerging as South Africa U19's leading run-scorer at the 2024 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup with 287 runs at an average of 57.40 and a strike rate nearing 95.
Domestically, he plays for the Titans and has recently signed with Hampshire to feature in England's T20 Blast.
Meanwhile, in a further boost to South African cricket, Western Province's Nandre Burger has also been drafted by the Rajasthan Royals as injury cover for Sandeep Sharma.
Burger's inclusion underscores the growing influence of South Africa's next generation on global T20 leagues.
The Rajasthan Royals are out of the running for IPL victory this season as they lie ninth in the 10-team table with just six points thanks to three wins and nine defeats to date.
They have two matches remaining this IPL season.

Marioné Fourie delivers powerful finish to take second in Hengelo

Marioné Fourie delivered a storming push at the death to finish second by one-hundredth of a second behind Dutch star Nadine Visser in the women's 100m hurdles at the FBK Games at Hengelo, the Netherlands. At the halfway point she was well back of Visser, fourth at the Paris Olympics last year, but the South African switched on the after-burners over the final three hurdles to rocket up the field. Fourie dipped on the line, her effort causing her to lose balance and she tumbled to the ground, but it wasn't enough to catch Visser, first in 12.59sec.

Best Kaizer Chiefs XI next season with Salum and Appollis

Kaizer Chiefs need to add marquee names in several positions to become Betway Premiership title contenders next season. So far, Feisal Salum is the most eye-catching player linked with a move to Naturena. Recently, Bafana wingers Oswin Appollis and Elias Mokwana are also back in the conversation. Chiefs shift focus to signing a key Orlando Pirates target Bvuma; Solomons, Msimango, Miguel, Dortley; Cele, Salum; Duba, Appollis, Lilepo; Mayele. Chiefs have reportedly ditched their interest in Bafana and Esperance winger Elias Mokwana. Instead, their eggs are all in the Oswin Appollis basket. 'If you were talking about Appollis, I could have agreed with you. It's also an open secret that Chiefs are interested in him. The negotiations are believed to also be at an advanced stage as there are a few logistics they are working on, but not Elias Mokwana,' an insider told Soccer Laduma. Although Kaizer Chiefs endured a mostly frustrating campaign, they did end their long trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup. To make it sweeter, they beat Orlando Pirates to do so. Nasreddine Nabi's next challenge will be to turn this side into legitimate title contenders. After all, this is a man who won back-to-back trebles in Tanzania. His allure could prove strong enough to see Feisal Salum make a move from Azam FC. Click for the story Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Proteas Kagiso Rabada to unleash the beast against Australia, predicts Geoffrey Toyana

UNLEASH THE BEAST Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada (pictured) is expected to deliver a strong performance against Australia in the World Test Championship final at Lord's, with Geoffrey Toyana predicting the fast bowler will thrive under sledging BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix There will be no concerns about Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada not being at his best against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final starting at Lord's on Wednesday, according to Geoffrey Toyana. First ball is at 11.30am SA time. Rabada spent his formative years at the Lions, where Toyana was a key figure in identifying the future talent who would later become the leader of the Proteas attack. Rabada, 30, was at the centre of a controversy the last couple of months, after he announced at the end of April he had tested positive for a banned recreational drug. The drug was later confirmed to be cocaine. By the time Rabada made the announcement, he had just about completed his one-month ban and swiftly returned to action for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 'When it comes to KG, he is a massive player, wherever he plays around the world,' Toyana told IOL Sport in an exclusive interview. 'He's a big player for South Africa. He's gone to the media as well to dare Australia to like bring it on. Sledging KG, you're just going to bring out the best in him. He knows that he's made a mistake and we all make mistakes as people as well. 'So KG will have that sledging and he'll come hard at the Aussies. Like he always does. When KG plays against Australia, he just becomes a different beast. And I expect to see the same again from him. I'm looking forward to it, I can't wait.' Weather Forecast and Toss Strategy for Day One at Lord's The initial weather forecast is for warm but cloudy conditions on day one, which could be good for bowling first. Bowling first, however, would be a big call for skipper Temba Bavuma to make. 'The toss at Lord's, I think, is that ground where, like you look up, then down because the wicket is always good at Lord's,' said Toyana. 'But I think the conditions, if it's cloudy and overcast, the ball will swing. 'I expect if Temba wins the toss to bowl those conditions. But if the weather is good and it's sunny, you can still bat there. It's a very, very good wicket.'
