TH to study proposal to extend pilgrims' stay in Madinah by two days

KUALA LUMPUR: The duration of Malaysian haj pilgrims' stay in Madinah, which had been reduced from eight days to six, was due to rising accommodation costs.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said maintaining the eight-day stay would incur substantial expenses for Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
"However, TH remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of haj pilgrims. As such, TH will conduct a detailed study on the proposal to extend the pilgrims' stay in Madinah to eight days," he said in response to Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun).
Ghani had inquired about the duration of the stay in Madinah, which has been reduced from eight days to six.
He said that previously, pilgrims were allowed to stay for eight days in Madinah, allowing them to perform forty consecutive prayers in Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah), which stems from a hadith.
Meanwhile, for the 1446H haj season, Na'im said TH had taken proactive steps to ensure the comfort of Malaysian pilgrims, including providing bus transportation facilities in the Holy Land to ease movement and allow pilgrims to perform their religious duties more comfortably.
He said the transportation services are part of TH's continuous efforts to deliver the best possible service to Malaysian haj pilgrims.
"The transport services cover long-distance movements such as from the airport to pilgrims' accommodation, domestic travel between Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah, as well as movements from accommodations to key ritual sites (Masyair), including Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina.
"To facilitate access to Masjidil Haram, TH ensures that all rented accommodations are located within one kilometre of the mosque compound," he said.
He added that the close proximity allows pilgrims to walk easily to the mosque.
"However, pilgrims also have the option of using taxi services or public buses, which are readily available near their accommodation.
"The location of Malaysian pilgrims' accommodation is also significantly closer to Masjidil Haram compared to pilgrims from other countries, whose lodgings are located more than five kilometres away from the mosque," he said.

Rallies continue in Sabah to demand justice for Zara

The crowd at Lintasan Deasoka demanding justice for Zara. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 16): Rallies across Sabah continued to be held in remembrance of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir. On Saturday evening, one such rally took place at Lintasan Deasoka here, with around 500 people in attendance despite continuous rain. Participants stood under umbrellas as they chanted support for Zara and her family, while others held placards demanding that schools be made safe spaces for all. Police guarded the perimeter to safeguard against any untoward incidents. Jaya speaking at the gathering. According to organiser Jaya Kumar, 47, from the Indian Civil Servant Retirees Organisation, the gathering was to demand justice for Zara and highlight the rising number of bullying incidents. Jaya said if it wasn't for the rakyat's voices, the case might have already been closed, expressing dismay over a recent report that an investigating officer in the case failed to follow Standard Operating Procedures. 'This issue does not involve race or religion, it involves the loss of a child's life. I have children. How can I trust to send them to school with the situation now? Strict action must be taken by the authorities, parents and schools over this bullying issue. I hope that not just in Sabah, but the whole Malaysia, we do not see a second Zara,' he said. Rajandran addressing the rally. Meanwhile, Dato Seri Rajandran, 66, said to be from the Kedah Royal Family Association, suggested that schools place a complaint box for reporting bullying incidents. He explained that such boxes would give both students and staff a safe channel to report problems or daily incidents without fear of reprisal. 'With these boxes, we can receive daily updates on what is happening in schools and detect incidents early. I came here not to complain to any party, but to fight for justice as Malaysians. A Malaysian's blood was spilled — let us try to prevent another,' he said.

MIC confirms informal discussions with PN

KOTA TINGGI: MIC today admitted that the party has held informal discussions with Perikatan Nasional (PN) on its future direction. MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran said the party leadership is carefully reviewing its course following proposals from grassroots members, including those from Kedah and Penang, to support PN. He said the country's changing political dynamics and landscape require the party to decide its direction to ensure it does not become irrelevant. "Yes, we acknowledge that we have held informal discussions with PN on MIC's direction. MIC is not hiding anything... This is not a 'secret relationship'. "We will determine our own path. Having said that, we are not upset with anyone," he said after officiating the 79th Johor MIC Delegates Convention here today. Also present was Johor MIC chairman K. Raven. It was reported last week that several MIC branches, including those in Kedah, Penang, and Perak, passed motions to cooperate with PN and did not rule out leaving Barisan Nasional (BN). However, MIC Kedah chairman SK Suresh was quoted as saying that the final decision would be made by the party's central leadership. Commenting further, Vigneswaran said MIC is still carefully reviewing its future direction before coming to a final decision. He said the decision to be made would be for the benefit of the Indian community in the country and for the party's future. "Everyone must understand that the country's political dynamics have changed. If MIC does not accept this reality, we will be lost. "MIC accepts it; we are labelled weak, yet it is strange that many still want to discuss this party. We don't understand that. "Much analysis has been done about MIC, many things have been said, but we do not believe them. MIC only trusts our grassroots," he said.
