
Jubail Commercial Port Adds 'Clanga' Shipping Service by MSC
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced that Jubail Commercial Port has added the new 'Clanga' shipping service by MSC, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The new service will further boost Saudi Arabia's competitiveness in investment and logistics services in line with the promising objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics.
With a capacity of up to 6,000 standard containers, the Clanga service will connect Jubail Commercial Port with various ports around the world, as follows: King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam
Singapore Port
Shanghai Port in China
Colombo Port in Sri Lanka
Crucially, this step represents a remarkable milestone in the Kingdom's pursuit to position itself as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
Furthermore, the newly added service enhances Jubail Commercial Port's pivotal role in boosting the maritime transport sector and logistics services.
It is worth noting that Jubail Commercial Port is one of the Kingdom's main ports that supports the movement of national exports to global markets, particularly industrial products and petrochemical products from several plants in Jubail Industrial City.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has expanded its maritime connectivity with the addition of the MEDEX shipping service at Jeddah Islamic Port, linking the Kingdom to 12 regional and international ports. Operated by global logistics firm CMA CGM, the new service connects Jeddah to Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in the UAE, Karachi in Pakistan, and Colombo in Sri Lanka, according to a release by the Saudi Ports Authority, or Mawani. The move is part of Mawani's broader efforts to improve operational efficiency at Jeddah Islamic Port and raise Saudi Arabia's standing in global port performance rankings. It also supports the Kingdom's National Logistics Strategy, which aims to increase the sector's contribution to gross domestic product from 6 percent to 10 percent by 2030, positioning Saudi Arabia as a strategic logistics hub connecting three continents. In the official announcement, Mawani stated: 'This service enhances the port's competitive advantage, facilitates global trade, opens new business horizons, and supports national exports.' The report highlighted that Jeddah Islamic Port advanced to 32nd place globally, up from 41st in 2023, after handling 5.58 million containers last year — a 12.6 percent increase over the previous year.

Mawani Reports 13% Growth in Container Handling at Ports in May 2025
Ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) recorded a 13% increase in container handling during May 2025, reaching 720,684 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), compared with 639,736 TEUs in the same period last year. Transshipment containers increased by 12.89%, totaling 149,143 TEUs compared to 132,112 last year. Imports also grew by 15.84%, reaching 292,223 TEUs, compared to 252,265 TEUs in May 2024, SPA reported. Outgoing containers increased by 9.38%, totaling 279,318 TEUs compared to 255,359 TEUs in the same month last year. Total handled cargo—including general cargo, solid bulk, and liquid bulk—increased by 1.40% to reach 21,337,699 tons, up from 21,042,684 tons in the corresponding period of 2024. This total includes 935,932 tons of general cargo, 5,059,899 tons of solid bulk cargo, and 15,341,868 tons of liquid bulk cargo. The ports also received 1,635,489 heads of livestock, marking a 61.22% increase from 1,014,417 in the same period last year. Maritime traffic rose by 9.39%, with 1,083 vessels received compared to 990 last year. Passenger numbers increased by 68.15% to 95,231, up from 56,636 in May 2024. The number of vehicles grew by 13.09% to 84,352, compared to 74,590 last year.
