The Rolling Stones To Re-Release One Of The Band's Most Important Albums

Forbes08-04-2025

The Rolling Stones are still together, more than six decades into the musician's time together. That is, on its own, an incredible feat that very few groups can claim. The fact that there's still an audience for their music – for anything at all – is remarkable. The group could be headed back to the charts in the United States later this spring, but not with a brand new effort or even a recent single. Instead, the rock outfit is resharing one of its earliest releases, as a special version of Out of Our Heads is coming on Record Store Day 2025.
As part of this year's Record Store Day, the British legends are reissuing Out of Our Heads, a title that helped kick off one of the earlier eras of the band's career. The new pressing will be limited to just 6,500 copies, which is a large number for many acts, but a rather small one for a group as beloved as the Rolling Stones still are to this day.
That figure may even prove to be large enough to push a catalog release onto several Billboard charts, if many of them sell at the same time – something that's far from impossible. Vinyl exclusives like this regularly appear on the company's rankings, such as the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts, and if interest is high enough, the collection could even find its way to the Billboard 200.
This latest edition of Out of Our Heads is being pressed on clear vinyl and features a custom design. It's been mastered from the original tapes, which makes it a dream for collectors, audiophiles, and longtime fans who've been with the band since the beginning. The only catch is that it's available exclusively at physical retailers on Record Store Day.
Out of Our Heads marked an important moment in the band's discography, and in rock history in general. Released in 1965, the set arrived at different times and in slightly different forms in the U.S. and the U.K. In America, it served as The Rolling Stones' fourth album and the band's first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In the group's home country, it was the third official release, and it peaked at No. 2.
The album features a blend of covers and original compositions, as the band was still transitioning away from the blues and R&B tunes that launched the troupe to stardom. Out of Our Heads marked the beginning of a shift toward songwriting, with Jagger and Richards stepping up in a big way and showing what they could do. That evolution proved to be a turning point for the outfit.
Perhaps more than anything else, Out of Our Heads is remembered as the album that introduced the world to one of the greatest songs of all time. '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' is often hailed as The Rolling Stones' definitive track, and its inclusion on the set helped push the band to another level of success, both commercially and critically. Rolling Stone has named it one of the greatest songs of all time, and it became the band's first No. 1 on the Hot 100.

James Whale gives update on ‘very difficult' situation amid terminal cancer diagnosis

Radio presenter James Whale has said that his situation is 'very, very difficult', after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. The 74-year-old broadcaster has been living with stage four kidney cancer for the past five years, telling listeners in May that he had stopped treatment and was 'at the end of [his] cancer journey'. During Friday's (6 June) episode of his series James Whale Unleashed, broadcast on talkRADIO and TalkTV, Whale addressed a guest whose husband had died of cancer. 'Until very recently, everything was quite normal for me, everything was fine, and then you do get to a stage like I am now, and things get to be very, very difficult,' said Whale. 'To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you're going through. I do know, I look basically okay, I get told I look OK – it's all make-up.' Whale has been a fixture of British radio and TV for five decades and was awarded an MBE for his services to broadcasting and to charity in the 2024 New Year Honours List. He was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000, with treatment requiring him to remove one of his kidneys. Whale's first wife, Melinda Maxted, died of lung cancer in 2018. In 2020, Whale revealed that his own cancer had returned in his kidney, spine, brain and lungs. He spoke about his condition last month on air, suggesting that he intended to continue work as a radio and TV host for 'another few months'. 'I'm at the end of my cancer journey,' he said, alongside Talk co-host Ash Gould. 'There is no treatment I can have anymore. I'm hoping to go on for another few months, but as soon as I can't do the show anymore, I won't.' 'I can't tell you how grateful I am to Talk to actually let me on the air and sit next to Ash, which is a real pain in the butt, but I've been doing it for 25 years!'

Jennie's "Ruby" makes it to Rolling Stone's "Best Album of 2025 So Far"

9 Jun - Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK was revealed to be the only K-pop act to have made it into Rolling Stone's "Best Albums of 2025 So Far" list for her first solo album, "Ruby". The singer joined the likes of other big names such as Lady Gaga ("Mayhem") and Bad Bunny ("Debí Tirar Más Fotos") to receive recognition from the renowned magazine, with Rolling Stone comparing "Ruby" to the works of Rihanna. "Not only does Jennie have an impressive ability to command the centre of candy-coated pop-R&B, there are some moments that feel like, if not direct, at least second-generation descendants of the hazy introspection shown by the Barbadian mogul on her 2016 classic Anti," the magazine wrote. It is noted that Jennie was heavily involved in the making of her namesake album that was released back in March, which is said to be inspired by Shakespeare's "As You Like It" Aside from the chart-topping "Like Jennie", the album also features several collaborations, including "ExtraL" with rapper Doechii and "Love Hangover" with Dominic Fike.
