Iowa football trio named to preseason USA TODAY Sports All-Big Ten team

USA Today23-07-2025
With Big Ten media days just around the corner for Iowa on Thursday in Las Vegas, USA TODAY Sports released its preseason All-Big Ten team. And the Hawkeyes had some good representation.
The team was created by writers who cover every single team in the conference and features five unanimous selections, one of which was a Hawkeye. It may be a surprise to note that Iowa doesn't have a single defensive player on the team, a sign that people are taking a wait-and-see approach to a Hawkeyes defense that lost Jay Higgins, Nick Jackson, and Sebastian Castro, among others.
Regardless, it's a nice nod for the three Hawkeyes named to this team and should have Iowa fans feeling more confident about the offense and special teams units on this year's team.
Without any further ado, let's take a look at which Hawkeyes made USA TODAY Sports' preseason All-Big Ten team.
Which Hawkeyes made the USA TODAY Sports preseason All-Big Ten team?
Logan Jones, Gennings Dunker, and Kaden Wetjen were the three Hawkeyes named to the team.
Jones was one of five unanimous selections to the team, joining Jeremiah Smith and Sonny Styles of Ohio State, Olaivavega Ioane of Penn State, and Dominic Zvada of Michigan.
The 6-foot-3, 302-pound graduate student center has anchored the Iowa offensive line for three years and was named first-team All-Big Ten by the media last season. Jones has also been named a preseason first-team All-Big Ten player by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele this offseason.
Jones is joined on the USA TODAY Sports All-Big Ten team by another offensive lineman in Gennings Dunker. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound senior right tackle was named second-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and third-team All-Big Ten by the media last season.
Dunker started at right tackle the last two seasons and has been a big stabilizing force on the offensive line alongside Jones. Dunker's role will be imperative this season with a new quarterback under center.
The final Hawkeye to make the team was Kaden Wetjen, named as the All-Purpose player. The 5-foot-9, 196-pound senior return specialist started his collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to Iowa. He was named first-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media last season, in addition to taking home the Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year award.
Wetjen was named a preseason first-team All-Big Ten player by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele as well.
This trio of Hawkeyes will be hugely important to the success of Iowa football in 2025. Assuming they play up to the standards that everyone believes they can, Iowa's offensive line should be really good and the special teams will set them up with short fields.
The Hawkeyes return to the field in just over a month for the season opener on Aug. 30 against Albany.

Wisconsin football extends offer to four-star class of 2027 wide receiver

Wisconsin football extended an offer to four-star class of 2027 wide receiver Khristian Jackson on Wednesday. After Wisconsin's offer, Jackson's offer sheet now features nearly 20 potential collegiate destinations. Headlined by Penn State, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Georgia Tech, the rising junior's list of suitors includes top programs from across the country. A product of Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina, Jackson hauled in 49 catches for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2024-25 slate. The offensive weapon also returned eight kickoffs for 197 yards across six contests. Neither On3/Rivals nor 247Sports have released projections regarding Jackson's landing spot, but On3/Rivals' recruiting prediction machine currently considers the Gamecocks the favorite with a 43% of securing his commitment. Jackson is one of 27 class of 2027 wide receiver targets to receive an offer from the Badgers thus far. The 5-foot-11 pass-catcher joins a talent cohort, highlighted by four or five-star playmakers Xavier Sabb and Easton Royal, Myles McAfee, Quentin Burrell, Dakota Guerrant and Damani Warren. While the offer sheet itself is impressive, the Badgers have not pocketed a 2027 commitment yet. All eyes remain on the program's class of 2026, which has not risen in the national rankings since four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit pledged his commitment in late June. That class features 14 players and currently sits No. 60 nationally and No. 16 in an 18-team Big Ten. MSU football's marquee non-conference opponent picked to finish near bottom of league

THE 2025 ACC PRESEASON POLL 🏈🚨Thoughts? 🤔 One of the Spartans' marquee non-conference opponents has been pegged by the media to finish near the bottom of their league. Michigan State will play host to Boston College of the ACC in a nationally televised night game on September 6. This is a critical early season game for the Spartans as a win could catapult them into a fast start to the season, while a loss could suggest another losing season is on the way. Good news for the Spartans, though, is that the ACC media isn't particularly high on the Eagles. In the recently released ACC preseason media poll, Boston College landed as the No. 13 team out of 17 league members. That isn't all to different from the Spartans' preseason landing spot of No. 13 out of 18 teams in the Big Ten media poll, but at least is telling that Boston College should be a very beatable opponent for the Spartans this fall. Michigan State let one slip away at Boston College last fall, and will get the return trip from the Eagles this year. That week two matchup is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBC. Kyle Schwarber will defer his Indiana University Hall of Fame selection because of attendance rule

Associated Press BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — All-Star Game MVP Kyle Schwarber is deferring his selection to Indiana University's Athletics Hall of Fame to a future year because of a rule requiring all living inductees to attend the ceremony. Indiana's induction is set for Sept. 5, a day Schwarber's Philadelphia Phillies visit the Miami Marlins as they attempt to win their second straight NL East title. Schwarber was selected in his first year of eligibility. Indiana's athletic department announced the selections on Thursday. Schwarber was one of the school's biggest baseball stars, leading the Hoosiers to two Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles while ranking among career leaders in hits (238), home turns (40), runs (182) and slugging percentage (.607) while batting .341. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2014, made his major league debut the following June and helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016. This season, the 32-year-old Schwarber ranks among the major league leaders with 37 home runs. He hit home runs on all three of his swings in the first All-Star Game swing-off to give the National League a victory over the American League. The three-time All-Star has 321 home runs and 738 RBIs in 11 seasons with the Cubs, Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox and Phillies. Schwarber was the headliner of Indiana's seven-member Hall of Fame class. The other selections are Cody Zeller, who has spent the last 11 seasons playing in the NBA, All-American rower Meradith Dickensheets, 2008 NCAA wrestling champion Angel Escobedo, former football star Mel Groomes, five-time track and field All-American Glenn Terry and Peggy Martin, a pioneering three-sport star in field hockey, women's basketball and softball from 1969-72. ___ AP MLB: recommended Item 1 of 3
