Rose was also an executive producer on the show, and wanted to ensure a portrayal of a deaf person was done right.
In an interview ahead of the show's release, Rose told ITV News it was "vital" that it was shown how difficult lip-reading can be, with Alison being seen struggling as her colleagues don't talk directly to her, leaving her unable to understand what they're saying.
"There's too many myths around lip-reading," she said. "You think it's something that you just get and it's not."
She went on to explain that lip-reading also means understanding body language, facial expressions, movement and response – all things that Alison needs in the show and they were determined to examine as the series played out.

Fans divided as Tom Felton reprises role as Draco Malfoy for Broadway

Social media have had their say after it was announced that Tom Felton would be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy on Broadway. Tom starred as Harry Potter's school bully in the eight-part film series based on the books, with him regularly speaking about the role that he played for nearly a decade since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 released in 2010. Now, it's been revealed that Tom will be picking up the wand once again, when he reprises his role as Malfoy for Harry Potter: The Cursed Child from November of this year. Pic: Marechal Aurore/ABACA/Shutterstock 'Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life,' Tom said of becoming Malfoy once again. 'Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I'll also be the exact age Draco is in the play.' Despite some fans being happy to see Tom return as Malfoy, others have said that it's a sign of him not being able to let go of the role. 'Gun to the back of your head name 5 Tom Felton roles that isn't him playing Draco Malfoy,' one person wrote on Twitter (X), while another wrote 'He is the only member of the original Harry Potter cast who hasn't moved on.' Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy for the 'HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD' stage show on Broadway. — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) June 5, 2025 Another shared a quote from fellow Harry Potter actress Miriam Margoyles, who previously said of her time in the film 'it was 25 years ago and it's for children,' while another added 'kind of sad that he doesn't get any other opportunities to exist outside of this role… even the top 3 kids have been able to shake their HP characters and do other stuff.' However, some people were on board with Tom being on the show — with one writing 'Can't believe Tom Felton is actually reprising his role as Draco Malfoy! Filming for the Harry Potter films ended in 2010. 15 years later, he will play Draco once again. How cool is that?' Tom played Draco in all eight films in the Harry Potter series, and appeared in several other films, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Burial. Tom played Draco in all eight films, and will reprise the role for the first time in 15 years. Rose of Tralee ‘sisterhood' planning Tralee invasion to support Cork Rose Nancy

A total of 25 women from the Cork Rose Centre contested this year's Cork Rose as Meelin native Nancy Lehane was chosen to represent the county. The good news for Nancy is the remaining 24 girls are planning to visit Tralee for the festival to support their friend and enjoy the occasion. While there is much publicity given every year to the lifelong friendships forged among Roses lucky enough to represent their respective Rose centres, the same applies in the preliminary stages and the various centres around Ireland and the globe. That all 25 contestants from the same Rose centre will be in Tralee for the festival must be a first in the storied history of the Rose of Tralee which started in the 1950s. 2025 Cork Rose contestant Lucy Ni Cuinneagáin, who represented Swissport in the sold-out selection night at Cork's Rochestown Park Hotel last month, explains the idea behind the visit. 'We just decided that we had grown so close over the last three months that it was only right that we go and celebrate Nancy winning, and hopefully winning the whole thing. She is like our sister so we're definitely all trying to go down and support her,' Lucy told The Kerryman. Lucy explains the Cork Rose selection night was less a competition and more an opportunity to make 'a big group of sisters' and best friends. Nancy Leahane is said to be over the moon about the girls travelling in such numbers to support her. 'Out of all the centres that we've seen, we have become quite close. I have heard from girls in previous years that say a few attended the Rose, but only on the night of the selection. This year, the whole 24 of us are going down to support Nancy. It's probably a first and I don't think Tralee knows what it has coming,' Lucy added. The pressure is on to find accommodation in Tralee for the week. Lucy has put out an appeal on social media for places to stay and is hoping some help and suggestions will come her way. 'We have phoned around a few places but it is proving difficult. We'll be trying to beg, borrow, and steal accommodation from people including some of our families that are living in Tralee. It is going to be a very expensive week so any way that we can get accommodation it would be greatly appreciated,' she said. With strong West Kerry connections to Castlegregory, Lucy is well accustomed to the special atmosphere created by the Rose of Tralee. Being a contestant in 2025 was part of a childhood dream. 'It's absolutely a surreal feeling to be a contestant. It was a fantastic experience and we're all so proud that we did it. The Rose of Tralee has always been a huge deal for me growing up. It's something that is close to me because the girls are really great and we've made some great connections. We became this big sisterhood – a sisterhood that is heading to Tralee to support a friend,' she said. Anyone with accommodation ideas can contact Lucy at 083 3858519.
