Largest graffiti mural launched in Musandam
Spanning a striking mountain facade at the governorate's entrance, the contemporary graffiti-style artwork reflects the spirit and unique maritime identity of the region, blending art with the local environment.
The event was held under the auspices of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam.
The mural, created by Omani artist Abdulaziz al Shehi, stretches 70 metres in length and 14 metres in height. Its execution took 40 consecutive days, with an average of three hours of work daily, utilising over 500 cans of paint. The artwork vividly depicts scenes of marine life for which Musandam is renowned, including pearl diving, dolphins, coral reefs and various maritime activities, transforming the site into an artistic and tourist landmark that captivates visitors and residents alike.
Sayyid Ibrahim, stated: "We take pride in this artistic work, which showcases the beauty of Musandam's marine environment and enhances the governorate's visual identity. We encourage such initiatives that harness art to serve tourism and provide opportunities for the people of Musandam to innovate and excel." The Musandam Governorate also announced plans to organise a graffiti festival as part of the upcoming "Musandam Winter" events, featuring a selection of local and international artists. The festival aims to transform several public spaces into open-air art galleries that convey cultural and aesthetic messages reflecting the governorate's natural beauty and heritage.
This creative momentum aligns with Musandam's preparations to launch the Musandam International Diving Festival next September, as part of a broader vision to enhance the region's artistic and touristic appeal while maintaining a balance between environmental preservation and showcasing nature as a source of inspiration and creativity. — ONA

Wakan Village in South Al Batinah attracts over 27,000 visitors
Nakhal: Wakan Village in Wadi Mistal, the Wilayat of Nakhal in South Al Batinah Governorate, welcomed 27,428 visitors from January to July 2025, compared to 24,093 visitors during the same period in 2024, according to official statistics. Khareef Dhofar sees 7% increase in visitors
SALALAH: The number of visitors to the Khareef Dhofar Season from June 21 to July 31, reached approximately 442,100, a 7 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024 when the number was 413,122. These are according to preliminary estimates from the National Centre for Statistics and Information. The preliminary statistics showed that the number of Omani visitors increased by 75.6 per cent to 334,399. The number of visitors from GCC countries was 69,801, while visitors of other nationalities totalled 37,900. A total of 334,846 visitors arrived in Dhofar Governorate by land through the end of July 2025, while 107,254 visitors arrived via flights, an increase of 10.9 per cent compared to those who arrived by air at the end of July 2024. It is worth noting that 95.3 per cent of the visitors to Khareef Dhofar Season through the end of July came between July 1 and July 31, while 4.7 per cent arrived between June 21 and June 30.

SALALAH, AUG 12 The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has launched the temporary exhibition 'Dhofar: Wonder of Natural History', showcasing the governorate's rich mountain and marine environments and their rare biodiversity. The exhibition aims to highlight Dhofar's environmental and tourism significance to both local and international audiences. Hosted at the Land of Frankincense Museum, the exhibition offers an interactive scientific and educational platform that attracts visitors of all ages. It presents extensive knowledge reflecting Dhofar's unique natural wealth, while raising awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources and addressing environmental challenges. 'This exhibition highlights Dhofar's environmental, geological and marine diversity, reinforcing Omani identity and documenting our natural heritage. It also fosters opportunities for scientific research and collaboration with academic and community institutions," Abdullah al Amri, Head of Temporary Exhibitions at the Ministry, told the Observer. The displays include rare specimens, archival photographs and educational models depicting Dhofar's wildlife — from lush mountain landscapes during the khareef season to the coastline's distinctive marine species. The exhibition combines visual and cultural elements designed to engage children, students, researchers and tourists alike. A dedicated children's corner offers activities such as drawing and colouring to inspire creativity and broaden young minds. Al Amri noted that the exhibition is part of the ministry's strategy to use temporary exhibits as a tool for community engagement and environmental education, while bolstering Dhofar's reputation as a world-class tourist destination rich in natural assets and biodiversity. He invited citizens, residents and visitors to experience this rich showcase of knowledge and natural beauty before the exhibition closes on August 31.
