Rays' Hunter Bigge 'in good spirits,' still in hospital after foul ball to face
June 20 - Tampa Bay Rays reliever Hunter Bigge remains hospitalized after taking a foul ball to the face while seated in the dugout during Thursday's game, but team officials received some encouraging news Friday as early medical evaluations offered positive signs.
Rays manager Kevin Cash and president of baseball operations Erik Neander visited Bigge on Friday and shared an update prior to Tampa Bay's home game against the Detroit Tigers.
"Getting to see Hunter and talk to him, he was in good spirits," Cash told reporters. "Not a ton of information other than that. But for me personally, witnessing and watching what took place (Thursday), to see how he was today, and being able to interact, things were heading in a really good direction."
Bigge, who's currently on the injured list with a lat strain, was sitting on the benches at the front of the dugout when he was struck on the right side of his face by a foul ball off the bat of Baltimore's Adley Rutschman during the seventh inning. He had to be taken out of the dugout on a stretcher but gave a thumbs-up to the crowd as he was loaded on the medical cart.
"It's a horrifying thing to have happen," Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe said. "But definitely gotten some good news from the staff and guys that have been able to stop by and go see him. What we're hearing is fantastic news for how scary the incident was last night."
After starting his major league career with the Chicago Cubs last season, Bigge was traded to the Rays in July. In 32 total big-league games (including one start), Bigge is 0-0 with a 2.51 ERA and one save.

June 21 - Adolis Garcia had three hits, including a home run and two RBI and made two great diving catches in right field to help the Texas Rangers beat the host Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Friday night. Garcia went 3-for-4 and his efforts backed up a strong outing by starter Jacob deGrom (7-2), who pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven on 84 pitches. The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak and handed the Pirates their fifth loss in their past six games. Marcus Semien and Jonah Heim each had two hits for Texas while Corey Seager hit his seventh home run of the season and first since returning from the injured list on May 28th. Joey Bart led Pittsburgh with three hits and an RBI and Nick Gonzales also had two hits. The Pirates mustered nine hits overall, but all were singles. The Rangers struck immediately in the first inning against Pirates rookie starter Mike Burrows (1-2) when Josh Smith and Sam Haggerty opened the game with back-to-back singles. On Haggerty's liner to center field, the ball bounced off Oneil Cruz resulting in a costly error that allowed Smith to score. Haggerty then scored on a wild pitch. Burrows gave up four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over 4 2/3 innings. Garcia's ninth homer of the season in the fourth inning pushed the Rangers' lead to 3-0. Pittsburgh answered with four singles and a walk -- all with two outs -- off deGrom. Adam Frazier's single scored Spencer Horwitz to cut the deficit to 3-2. deGrom struck out Alexander Canario to end the inning. Seager's solo home run in the fifth pushed the Rangers' lead to 4-2 and added another in the seventh when Semien tripled and Garcia followed with a double. Pirates reliever Ryan Borucki appeared to suffer an injury during his appearance in the top of the ninth inning. Borucki exited after facing four batters following a slight stumble as he finished his delivery on a pitch to Evan Carter. Borucki remained in the game, but then was removed after walking Carter to load the bases. Josh Jung drove in Texas' sixth run on a ground out to first off Caleb Ferguson. --Field Level Media

Tom Brady brutally trolled his former rival Eli Manning on Friday by ripping his New York Giants jersey in half. The seven-time Super Bowl champion made an appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City, much to the delight of the thousands of fans in attendance. Brady spoke to some of the crowd at Manhattan's Javits Center before then taking part in a WWE-style performance later on. But, as he made his way down to the walkway, Brady was presented with a Giants jersey that had 'Manning 10' on the back. The former New England Patriots quarterback then ripped the jersey in half in a playful dig at Manning. Brady's actions prompted Manning, who was watching on, to storm the stage and climb on his rival's back. Their rivalry dates back to their stellar NFL careers, when Manning and the Giants were able to briefly halt the Patriots' dominant run to beat them in two Super Bowls. The Giants stunned Bill Belichick's team to win 17-14 in Arizona in 2008, despite being heavy underdogs after Brady led his men to a perfect 16-0 regular season. Then, four years after, the Patriots were stunned by the Giants again when they were beaten 21-17 in Indianapolis. Manning was named Super Bowl MVP that year. Brady and Manning quickly regained their composure and were later pictured competing against each other in a baseball pitching contest.
