Mariska Hargitay and Jayne Mansfield.
My Mom Jayne — Mariska Hargitay's documentary about her mother, Hollywood legend Jayne Mansfield — is reportedly coming soon to streaming.
The documentary marks the feature film directorial debut for Hargitay, a previous Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy winner for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The documentary, which Hargitay debuted at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the South of France on Saturday, examines the life, career and legacy of Mansfield, who died in 1967.
The official summary for My Mom Jayne reads, 'Mariska Hargitay was three years old when her mother, Jayne Mansfield, tragically died in a car accident at the age of 34. The film follows Mariska as she seeks to know, understand, and embrace her mother for the first time.
'Through intimate interviews and a collection of never-before-seen photos and home movies, she grapples with her mother's public and private legacy and discovers the layers and depth of who Jayne was, not only to her audience but to those who were closest to her.'
My Mom Jayne, which is an HBO Original documentary, will premiere on Max on Friday, June 27, according to When to Stream. The streaming tracker noted that My Mom Jayne will also have a one-week theatrical run beginning on Friday, June 20.
Viewers who don't have Max — which will soon be switching its name back to HBO Max — can subscribe to the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service for $9.99 per month with ads and $16.99 per month without ads. Viewers can also subscribe to Max for $20.99 monthly without ads, which includes 4K Ultra HD programming.
In a statement from Mariska Hargitay issued by HBO in April, the acclaimed performer said of My Mom Jayne, 'This movie is a labor of love and longing. It's a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I'd never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother's story and my own truth.
'I've always believed there is strength in vulnerability, and the process of making this film has confirmed that belief like never before,' Hargitay added.
Hargitay was on-hand in Cannes to introduce My Mom Jayne on Saturday. Variety reported that Hargitay was in tears delivering her opening remarks, saying, "Tonight I'm celebrating the power that film has for me to remember somebody I didn't have the good fortune to know or grow up with.'
Variety reported that the film received a four-minute standing ovation from the crowd at Cannes.
Pete Hammond is among the critics who have published a review of My Mom Jayne after screening it at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
In his his take on My Mom Jayne for Deadline, Hammond writes, 'This film is less standard showbiz bio and more Mariska's effort to use the documentary format to uncover the past, to find her own place in her mother's life and to move on in what is essentially a journey to healing — and that includes a very happy ending that just might have you in tears.'
Directed and produced by Mariska Hargitay, My Mom Jayne will begin streaming on Max on June 27.

'House of the Dragon' season 3 will go experimental with a concept episode

Westeros fans are already excited about the promise of "House of the Dragon" season 3, the next installment of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series. Alas, we still don't have a release date (we'll keep you posted the second we hear!), but news of filming kicking off in England and new actors joining the cast should be enough to hold George R. R. Martin stans over for awhile. Still, we're chomping at the bit until Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and the rest of our favorite "House of the Dragon" characters are back on screen. That's especially so now that showrunner Ryan Condal has teased a special high-concept episode to come in the new season. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the showrunner revealed that one episode of the third season will be a more "conceptual" and "character-driven" installment than "House of the Dragon" fans have seen from the HBO fantasy series so far. 'We got to have a little fun this season, and there's a conceptual episode that I'm really excited about that [Sara Hess] wrote, and that's all I'm gonna say about it," Condal shared during the podcast appearance. "It isn't in the traditional vernacular of what we have laid out. It's very character-driven, I think it's really great and I'm really excited to see it rendered.' Exactly which character's journey will be on the receiving end of this more experimental narrative style in the new episodes is so far unknown. Condal played coy when it came to naming names, as well as how that treatment will play out visually onscreen. But it will be interesting getting a more introspective and emotional look into a character's mindset, especially as the turmoil of a major war rages around them. Outside of the more focused, interior look into the personalities of "House of the Dragon," the third season is set to go bigger and better with its storylines. In a previous interview with Gold Derby, Condal said: "Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That's really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it's the thing the show does really well." Tom's Guide will keep you posted on all things related to "House of the Dragon" season 3, including that aforementioned concept episode as well as new teaser trailers, plot points, character details, casting announcements and more.

Olympic star, 3-time pro champion Vasiliy Lomachenko announces retirement from boxing

Vasiliy Lomachenko has announced his retirement from boxing after a decorated career that included two Olympic gold medals and professional world titles in three weight classes. Lomachenko announced his decision with a video on social media Thursday. 'I am grateful for every victory and every defeat, both in the ring and in life,' Lomachenko said. 'I'm thankful that as my career comes to an end, I've gained clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve true victory.' The Ukrainian star burst onto the international boxing scene at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when the 20-year-old prospect steamrolled the competition. He showed off athleticism, footwork and ring intelligence far beyond his years, clearly marking himself as a once-in-a-generation talent. But he eschewed the professional sport and returned to win gold at the London Games four years later alongside Oleksandr Usyk, his close friend and the future undisputed professional world heavyweight champion. After going 396-1 as an amateur, Lomachenko finally embarked on a pro career largely spent in the U.S. Lomachenko won the WBO featherweight title in his third professional fight in June 2014, beating Gary Russell Jr. after ordering his promoters to get him a near-immediate title shot after turning pro. He won the junior lightweight belt in 2016 by stopping Román Martínez, and he added the WBA lightweight world title in 2018, stopping Jorge Linares. Lomachenko finished his pro career 18-3 with 12 stoppage victories, incurring late-career decision losses to Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney. 'It's been an honor for all of us at Top Rank to promote the pro boxing career of Vasiliy Lomachenko,' said Bob Arum, Lomachenko's U.S. promoter. 'He was a generational champion, and we will all miss his participation in the sport.' Lomachenko paused his career for several months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and he has fought only three times since 2021. He stopped George Kambosos Jr. in the 11th round of his final bout in May 2024. ___ AP boxing:

Twin Cities weekend: Giant pencil sharpening, Edina Art Fair, Prince celebration

It's that time of year again: The giant pencil at Lake of the Isles is getting its birthday sharpening. Context: Since its creation in 2022, owner John Higgins has thrown a massive annual party for the community to celebrate the 16-foot-tall pencil sculpture, carved from a tree in Higgins' front yard by chainsaw sculptor Curtis Ingvoldstad. Previous years have included "human pencil" dancers, a drum line, T-shirt cannons, professional pencil sharpener David Rees, speeches on scrolls presented by barristers and free ice cream. What to expect: The 4-foot-long giant pencil sharpener will make an appearance, but the rest of the programming is largely a mystery — though according to Higgins, the customary complimentary pencils handed out at the event will be purple in honor of Prince's birthday. 📍 Details: Saturday, June 7 from 1-2:30pm at 2217 E. Lake of the Isles Parkway, Minneapolis, rain or shine. Free! More things to do ... 💜 Remember Prince's legacy at Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis' Celebration 2025 Thursday-Sunday.
