Opposition formed opportunistic alliance out of frustration of repeated failures: DMK president Stalin
Those who are forming an opportunistic alliance by betraying Tamil Nadu, along with their covert partners, are frustrated by repeated failures and have been wondering whether the DMK could be defeated in the 2026 Assembly elections. But people of Tamil Nadu will prove how flawed their political calculations are, said DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (May 6, 2025).
In a letter to DMK party cadre, Mr. Stalin said 'As of May 7, our Dravida model government completes four years and is stepping into its fifth year. People of Tamil Nadu trusted us and we have been delivering good-governance and people-centric schemes, driven by the goal of 'everything for everyone.' In the last four years, Tamil Nadu has become a leading State. Those who are ideologically opposed to us, ruling other States, have also begun to follow our initiatives. The people's sentiment shows that this good governance will continue for another five years.'
The DMK ruled the State on six occasions and ensured socio-economic progress by implementing schemes that benefited every household and building a modern Tamil Nadu. It will once again be the DMK that will secure a grand victory in the 2026 Assembly elections and form the government for the seventh time, Mr. Stalin said.
'To uphold the trust people have placed in us, we must work tirelessly on the ground. Since our political opponents were unable to find fault in our governance, they resort to spreading slander. They misuse institutions to launch politically motivated attacks. But we are not a submissive party to be scared by such tactics. The DMK will continue to fight for Tamil Nadu's rights. Most of the 505 promises that we made in our 2021 election manifesto have been fulfilled. Further, many successful schemes not mentioned in the manifesto have also been implemented to benefit people. I neither deny nor forget that there are few other poll promises yet to be fulfilled. I remain committed to fulfilling them,' Mr. Stalin said.
'For the next one year, our focus should be on election-related work. The party headquarters has developed action plans and communicated them to the district secretaries. The party's activities on ground should align with the action plan. Elaborate election strategies will be discussed during the party's general council meeting scheduled to be held in Madurai on June 1,' he said.
He also urged the booth agents and party cadres to actively engage on social media platforms and promptly take forward messages from party headquarters to the people.
Party speakers addressing public meetings across State should clearly and concisely present the achievements of four years of our Dravida model government and explain with statistics to people about the benefits of some of our flagship schemes such as Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, free bus travel for women, Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, Naan Mudhalvan, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan, he added.

'Daydreaming', EPS dismisses CM Stalin's 2026 Assembly election target
Leader of Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Sunday dismissed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's claim that the DMK-led coalition would win over 200 seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, calling it a 'daydream'. Speaking at the wedding of Arakkonam MLA S. Ravi's son, Palaniswami said, 'Stalin is daydreaming when he says his alliance will secure more than 200 Assembly seats in the next polls. It is, in fact, the AIADMK-led front that will form the next government in Tamil Nadu after 2026.' He also asserted that more political parties would soon join the AIADMK alliance, further strengthening its position. Highlighting achievements of the AIADMK during its previous tenure from 2016 to 2021, Palaniswami took credit for the creation of six new districts in Tamil Nadu, including Ranipet and Tirupattur, which were carved out of Vellore. He said the formation of these new administrative units enabled a better focus on underdeveloped regions. The former Chief Minister also listed several educational initiatives launched during the AIADMK regime, including the establishment of 11 new medical colleges, six law colleges, and additional engineering and agricultural colleges. "On the contrary, the DMK government is merely relaunching our schemes under new names by pasting their stickers on them,' he alleged. Palaniswami questioned the DMK's 2021 poll promise to build check dams worth Rs 2,000 crore across Tamil Nadu. 'How many check dams has the DMK government built so far? Every monsoon, excess rainwater simply drains into the sea due to poor planning,' he said. He further criticised the DMK for discontinuing pro-poor schemes introduced by the AIADMK, such as Amma Clinics and the Kudimaramathu initiative, which allowed farmers to desilt local waterbodies. 'This not only deepened water storage areas but also provided nutrient-rich silt for farmlands,' he said. Palaniswami also cited the AIADMK's introduction of the 7.5 per cent horizontal reservation for government school students in medical admissions as a landmark initiative. 'Thanks to this, 3,460 government school students have been able to pursue medicine since the 2020-21 academic year,' he said. The event was attended by former Minister and Tirupattur district in-charge K.C. Veeramani, along with several AIADMK functionaries and party cadre.

In a press statement, Prasad said that Chief Minister MK Stalin and DMK MP Kanimozhi should refrain from making 'baseless allegations' against the Central Government. CM Stalin's continued propagation of misinformation regarding delimitation, despite Amit Shah's clarification, is concerning. He further said that the constitutional delimitation process should proceed without political interference and that any concerns should be addressed through constructive dialogue between the state and the Centre. The Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on Sunday (June 8, 2025) said DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is daydreaming of DMK-led coalition winning over 200 seats in 2026 Assembly polls. Addressing party cadre at Arakkonam MLA S. Ravi's son's wedding in Arakkonam, Mr. Palaniswami said Mr. Stalin has been saying that the DMK-led coalition will win more than 200 Assembly seats in the upcoming election next year. 'He (Mr. Stalin) is day-dreaming about it. It is AIADMK -led front that will form the next government in the State after the 2026 polls. More political parties will be joining the AIADMK coalition soon, strengthening its alliance,' he said. Taking credit for creation of new districts in Tamil Nadu and other welfare measures, the former Chief Minister said during the AIADMK regime between 2016 - 2021, six new districts were formed in the State. Districts like Ranipet and Tirupattur were formed after bifurcating Vellore. Such a formation has helped to focus on backward areas in the newly-formed districts. 'During the AIADMK regime, 11 new medical colleges, six law colleges and additional engineering and agricultural colleges were opened in the State. On the contrary, DMK is pasting stickers on those schemes and re-introduces them as new schemes,' he said. The AIADMK supremo wondered what happened to the poll promises made by DMK during its campaign in the 2021 elections. For example, he said, the DMK promised to voters that when the party (DMK) comes to power, steps will be taken to construct new check dams to a tune of ₹2,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. 'How many new check dams has the DMK government built so far in the State? Every monsoon, a huge quantity of excess rainwater goes unutilized as the water flows into the sea,' he said. Mr. Palaniswami blamed DMK government for dumping its pro-poor and farmers welfare schemes like Amma clinics and kudimaramathu scheme where farmers were allowed to remove silt deposited in ponds and lakes in the area. The scheme has twin benefits, namely it helps to deepen waterbodies to store excess rainwater and secondly farmers can use silt to enrich their farmland, he said. The AIADMK leader said that 3,460 government students in Tamil Nadu were able to pursue medicine currently because of the AIADMK initiative where it introduced 7.5% horizontal reservation for students of government schools in medical admissions, which is being implemented since the 2020-21 academic year, he said. On the occasion, former AIADMK Minister and Tirupattur district in-charge for AIADMK K.C. Veeramani, party functionaries and cadre were present.
