Chicago Sky Facing Angel Reese Decision After Third Straight Missed Game
The Chicago Sky have a 7-21 record during the 2025 WNBA season, which places them 12th in the league standings. They are currently 7.0 games back from the final playoff spot with just 16 contests left in the year.
Two-time All-Star forward Angel Reese has enjoyed another stellar campaign, averaging a career-best 14.2 points and 3.7 assists, as well as a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, she has played in just 23 games, missing five of the Sky's last seven.
In her absence, the Sky have gone 0-5, averaging just 63.4 points per game and losing by an average margin of 22.6 points. This poor stretch has taken Chicago almost completely out of the playoff picture.
Chicago Sky Announce Angel Reese Will Miss Third Straight Game
On Tuesday evening, the Sky will host the 13-15 Washington Mystics at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The team has already ruled Reese out for the game with a back injury once again, meaning she will now miss her third straight contest.
Chicago is now facing a decision about potentially shutting down Reese for an extended stretch, and perhaps the rest of the 2025 season. The benefit of this would be making sure that Reese's back heals properly and focusing on her long-term health instead of rushing her back for an unsalvageable season.
Given the low odds of making the playoffs and the current eight-game losing streak, it may be better for the Sky to take this route. This would also allow them to take a better look at players like Kamilla Cardoso and Maddy Westbeld, both of whom have been outshone by Reese thus far in their WNBA careers.
Chicago Sky Fans Call for Angel Reese to be Shut Down for Extended Period
Sky fans certainly echoed this sentiment upon the announcement that Reese would miss her third straight game, as they believe it may be the best thing for her and the franchise moving forward.
"Wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't play the rest of the year at this point," one fan said.
"Im really glad shes taking her time because back injuries really shortened some of the greats' careers," another replied. "But damn I miss seeing her play."
"Keep resting and healing, Angel," a fan chimed in.
"I'm happy she sitting because remember EDD never came back after having back trouble," another pointed out.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she's done for the season. 💔," another fan responded.
"Even though I miss Angel hoops, I want her to rest as long as possible," one fan commented.

Bulls Reportedly Offered Josh Giddey Four-Year, $80 Million Deal
Bulls Reportedly Offered Josh Giddey Four-Year, $80 Million Deal originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Chicago Bulls' offseason has featured only a handful of storylines, with one of them being the re-signing of their guard, Josh Giddey. As a restricted free agent, Giddey has faced some challenges in securing a new contract. But NBA insider Jake Fischer recently shed more light on the situation. Fischer claimed that the Bulls had offered Giddey a four-year deal, worth $80 million. He wrote: "League sources say that the Bulls made an offer of $80 million over four years to restricted free agent Josh Giddey when the offseason commenced on June 30. Giddey, of course, is seeking an annual salary in the $30 million range. Chicago has been anchored in the $20 million range in annual value ever since its original offer." The offer presented by Chicago is the standard deal for most restricted free agents this season, except for rare cases like Cam Thomas. The general figure of $20 million a year appears to be the trend. Unfortunately, this is not something that Giddey appears to be interested in. It is a widely known fact that the Bulls guard has been seeking a deal that amounts to a rough estimate of $30 million a year. Given the state of most teams concerning the luxury tax aprons, franchises have been hesitant to make an offer of this nature. This has resulted in prolonged negotiations with neither side willing to budge. Considering that no deal has been signed, it is evident that Giddey isn't satisfied with the Bulls' offer. This leaves the door open for potential trade discussions. Recent reports have suggested that the Golden State Warriors could be inclined to trade for Giddey. The Warriors could trade Jonathan Kuminga for the Bulls guard, allowing the Dubs to add a multifaceted playmaker. Given the Warriors' predicaments involving their restricted free agent, there may be some roadblocks. In the overall sense, however, acquiring Giddey could be in Golden State's best interests. At 6'8" and only 22 years old, Giddey is an extremely talented guard. Given his expansive offensive skill set, he is sure to bring a lot of versatility and creativity to the table. Last season, the Bulls guard recorded an average of 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists, while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.8% from three-point range. While the interest from the Warriors appears to be genuine, the Bulls may also wish to invest in retaining a player like him. Although the franchise doesn't have a direction at the moment, Chicago has the potential to improve. Featuring a young core, with players like Matas Buzelis and Coby White, the Bulls would benefit from retaining Giddey to develop into a competitive side in the story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

Gorman drives in winning run for Cardinals as Cubs lose
Nolan Gorman singled home the winning run, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs to wrap up their three-game series Sunday night. In the seventh, Jordan Walker singled with two outs. He stole second and scored when Gorman singled to right field to knock Shota Imanaga (8-5) out of the game. Imanaga went 6 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts and no walks. He gave up the three runs on four hits. Sonny Gray (11-5) threw seven innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out seven and walked one. JoJo Romero pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to record his third save despite giving up a walk and two singles in the ninth. Pinch-runner Jon Berti was caught stealing for the second out. After two hits, Romero got Matt Shaw to ground into a fielder's choice to escape the jam. Shaw pulled Chicago even at 2-2 with a home run into the left field bullpen in the fifth. Pedro Pagés gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead when he homered after Thomas Saggese led off the third inning with a single. In the fourth inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong singled with one out. He stole second for his 30th steal. But then he was picked off by Gray, who threw to shortstop Masyn Winn. The Cardinals are 13-2 in Gray's 16 home starts this season. That is the best home team record for any starting pitcher in MLB this season. Overall, the Cardinals are 18-6 in his 24 starts this season, tied with Detroit's Tarik Skubal and the Phillies' Cristopher Sánchez for the best team record for any pitcher with 20 or more starts. Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas (6-9, 5.11 ERA) starts against the Rockies on Monday. The Cubs visit Toronto on Tuesday to face RHP José Berríos (8-4, 3.89).

(AP) — Drake Maye isn't exactly measuring himself against Jayden Daniels. But the New England Patriots quarterback is keeping tabs on what his Washington Commanders' counterpart — and others from their draft class — are up to heading into their second NFL seasons. Maye and Daniels were on the field together Wednesday for a joint practice between the teams in advance of their exhibition game on Friday. For Maye it was a reminder of the potential and expectations they both carry. 'I saw him out there. I congratulated him. What a year he had,' Maye said. 'I think there's always in the back of your mind the draft class you came in with, and anytime you play him, especially, it's a little different. ... I think I'm just trying to worry about myself, but at the end of the day, keep up with those guys. Those guys are — him and Caleb (Williams) and Bo (Nix), those guys are good friends of mine, and they're friends until we play each other.' Friday's game won't count in the standings and the Commanders will be approaching it as such with Washington coach Dan Quinn announcing before practice that Daniels will not play in the exhibition. With backup Marcus Mariota also nursing a lower leg strain, quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman will handle the offense for Washington. Receiver Terry McLaurin, who is on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury in addition to 'holding in' as contract talks continue, was among the Commanders players that didn't make the trip. But Maye is expected to see action, with first-year Patriots coach Mike Vrabel saying that all healthy players would receive at least some playing time. While there was no tackling allowed during Wednesday's session, it didn't stop tempers from flaring during a pair of scuffles. The first featured just minor shoving between linemen. But the second, after Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson got tangled up with a Commanders defender, caused players from both sidelines to rush the field as even Vrabel jumped into the ensuing scrum. 'That's just how the game goes. Two teams with very competitive coaches, and players are representative of their coach,' Commanders cornerback Mike Sainristil said. 'We're out there competing and they're competing. But just being able to de-escalate situations before they get worse is very professional. Sometimes things happen. Guys start chirping. It's the game of football.' Maye liked the fire his teammates showed during the exchanges. 'That's what we're trying to build, I think, and it starts with the coach. The intensity, bringing it every day, taking no (nonsense) when we're out there on the field,' he said. 'But also, it comes to a time where, with our guys offensively, and getting over there and getting some tussles, and kind of having some penalties, and extra after the whistle can get us in trouble. But for mentality, I like it. I think that's what you want. I mean, I almost got in there, but I think maybe another day, maybe. We'll see.' Between the pushing and shoving, both teams also had some highlight plays in front of a packed house of VIP onlookers that included Celtics star Jayson Tatum and rock star Jon Bon Jovi. Maye spread the ball around for multiple TD passes during some red zone situations. Washington's defense also got the best of Maye late in practice when his pass to receiver DeMario Douglas was tipped by Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner and intercepted by Sainristil. But Maye said he was pleased with the day overall. 'Anything is positive when you're moving the ball,' Maye said. 'It looked like some football out there against a different team. Felt good to get our operations done against somebody else. We did some no-huddle that I thought went well. So it's good for us to learn from it, watch it and kind of just build off of it.'
