American pop queen Madonna is reportedly related to Pope Leo XIV, who was elected head of the Catholic Church in May.
According to American historian Henry Louis Gates Jr, the host of US documentary series Finding Your Roots (2012 to present), the 66-year-old American singer and 69-year-old American pontiff have been found to be 'ninth cousins, various times removed', reported The New York Times.
The team behind the show had traced the religious leader's roots through a distant maternal relative born in the 1590s.
Pope Leo, whose birth name is Robert Prevost, is also ninth cousins with various celebrities, including Canadian singer Justin Bieber and American actress Angelina Jolie. He is also related to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In response to the news, Madonna posted a photograph of herself and her 94-year-old father Silvio Ciccone on Instagram Stories on June 16, saying: 'Silvio! We're related to the Pope!'

The singer was born and raised in a Catholic family and attended Catholic schools.
Throughout her four-decade career, Madonna has made headlines for heavy references to Catholicism, most notably in her controversial Like A Prayer (1989) music video. It included scenes of her going to a church where she dances in front of burning crosses and with a wax saint, which led to sharp criticism from the Vatican then.

Anne Burrell: Celebrity Chef and Food Network Star's Heartbreaking Final Post Is Revealed as New Details About Death Emerge
Celebrity chef Anne Burrell embraced life wholeheartedly right up until her final days. Just five days before her death on Tuesday, June 17, at the age of 55, the Food Network star shared what would become her last Instagram post — and it included a familiar face. "I ran into [the Green Lady of Brooklyn] in my neighborhood today!" she wrote on June 12 alongside a photo of her and NYC fixture Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal. "I'm not going to lie – I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute," the celebrity chef added. "She is just lovely!!!" Touching Final Post Rosenthal, 84, known as the Green Lady of Brooklyn, earned her nickname by exclusively wearing green for more than two decades. A day after Burrell's Instagram post, Rosenthal replied, saying it was "so much fun" meeting the famous chef. She also invited the "Worst Cooks in America" co-host to visit her garden and pick some figs. "Hi Anne, it was so much fun meeting you, see you again soon in the neighborhood, the only thing I make is coffee and fig preserves from my fig tree, love and hugs," the Green Lady of Brooklyn wrote with several green heart emojis. "Hi Anne," Rosenthal added on Sunday, "I would like to invite you to my garden and pick figs when they are ready, usually beginning to ripen beginning September, and come and visit the garden on a sunny day anyway." Following the heartbreaking news of the celebrity chef's unexpected death, Rosenthal—also known as Elizabeth Sweetheart—revisited Burrell's Instagram page on Tuesday. "Hi Anne," she wrote, "you are such a lovely person just to meet and not knowing you, I just love you and so sorry but come to my garden and visit with all your beauty and love and I will be waiting for you." Sudden and Shocking Death Burrell died at her Brooklyn home on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, at the age of 55. The celebrity chef was found "unconscious and unresponsive" and was pronounced dead at the scene, the New York City Police Department revealed on Tuesday. At 7:50 a.m. EST, police responded to a report of "an unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old female," according to PEOPLE. When Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived, they confirmed that Burrell had died at the scene. Her family later released a emotional statement confirming her sudden death, though they chose not to disclose the cause. "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered," their statement read. "Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world," the family added. "Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal." Although the police did not name Burrell as the deceased in their statement, PEOPLE verified that the address given by authorities matches with the celebrity chef's home. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will officially determine the cause of Anne Burrell's death. Burrell shot to fame with her appearances on various cooking shows, including "Iron Chef America", "Chef Wanted", and "Chopped." She received an Emmy nomination for her hit show "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef", which aired for nine successful seasons. Most recently, she appeared on an episode of the culinary competition series "House of Knives". Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her mother Marlena, and her siblings, Jane and Ben.

REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni Cast member Zoe Saldana attends the premiere for the film Elio at El Capitan theatre in Los Angeles, California, U.S., June 10, 2025. REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni LOS ANGELES - Zoe Saldana feels like her new film "Elio," from Walt Disney's Pixar Animation Studios, is a story about the imperfect journey that parents and their children go through. "I think it's okay to look at your kids and sort of just not know what to do, because that is a way that you can connect with your children, because half of the time they don't know what to do as well," Saldana, a mother of three, told Reuters. "Elio" debuts in movie theaters on Friday. The film follows a lonely eleven-year-old boy named Elio Solis, voiced by Yonas Kibreab, who unintentionally becomes the intergalactic ambassador of Earth after being sent to a planet called Communiverse. He must work with alien lifeforms, eventually realizing that he is not alone. Film critics have applauded the movie from Pixar, the famed animation studio behind "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo." "Elio" has earned an 81% positive score in reviews collected on the Rotten Tomatoes website. Hollywood studios, however, have faced challenges in drawing audiences to theaters for films with original stories. "Elio" may debut with some of the lowest opening weekend ticket sales of any movie from Pixar, according to industry analysts. From Friday through Sunday, "Elio" is expected to bring in between $20 million and $30 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters, said Shawn Robbins, founder and owner of Box Office Theory and director of analytics for Fandango. Disney projects an opening around $25 million. In the movie, Saldana voices Olga Solis, Elio's aunt who takes care of him, alongside Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, a bulky, worm-like alien warlord, father and ambassador. Garrett, a father of two, noted that Grigon has his own parenting journey in the film that starts off a little rocky. 'There's so many over-controlling parents, right? That tried to mold their kid into what they had wanted to be, or what they think they should be,' Garrett said, referring to Grigon. The "Everybody Loves Raymond" actor said "Elio" is a movie that speaks to how everyone is unique, and children have their own path. Kibreab echoed this, saying that he believes the film is rooted in families that support one another fully. "They're always going to be there for you whenever you need a shoulder to lean on and also if you're feeling doubt or feeling lonely," he said. For co-director Domee Shi, feeling isolated at a point in her life helped her create the character Elio. 'This is about the weird kid before they've made any friends, when they are just feeling so alone,' the 'Turning Red' director said. 'I feel like I went on that journey. Definitely at some point in my life as a kid too, I felt like that weird, artsy kid who was the only kid in Toronto that watched anime at some point, but once I went to animation school and I found my people, that's when I felt like I opened up,' she added.
