Bucs linked to veteran free agent cornerback from the AFC East
The Bucs need to do something to fix the secondary. While it has some positive pieces, it struggled in coverage last year, and as a result, it was one of the worst teams in coverage during the 2024 season.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has the Bucs listed as a potential landing spot for a veteran cornerback who could be had at a value compared to his previous $21 million deal. Bills free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas could be exactly what the Bucs need this offseason to fix the secondary.
Knox explains it, writing, "Between 2021 and 2023, Douglas snagged 14 interceptions. With the Bills in 2023, he allowed an opposing passer rating of only 58.6. The 29-year-old also has a history of quickly adapting to new defensive environments. He latched on with the Green Bay Packers in 2021 and immediately made a difference. He did the same after being traded to Buffalo in 2023. Douglas would be a strong fit for a team with legitimate playoff aspirations. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who ranked 29th in passing yards allowed last season, should be interested."
Adding a veteran to a young group with the like of Tykee Smith, Zyon McCollum, and a rookie always sounds like a sound move. Whether they can attract him away from the confines of the AFC East-dominating Buffalo Bills is another thing, but never doubt Jason Licht.

'He's Pissed Off!' Tampa Bay Buccaneers Expect Haason Reddick to Attend Mandatory Minicamp
'He's Pissed Off!' Tampa Bay Buccaneers Expect Haason Reddick to Attend Mandatory Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a flyer on two-time Pro Bowl free agent linebacker Haason Reddick this offseason. Advertisement General manager Jason Licht offered a one-year "prove-it" deal worth $14 million with $12 million in guarantees. A very team-friendly deal for someone with Reddick's past. Reddick attended Phase 1 of the offseason and has been working out on his own since. But he didn't attend voluntary OTAs, and that has rubbed some the wrong way. Especially considering the season he had last year with the New York Jets. Head coach Todd Bowles isn't the least bit concerned about Reddick, though. "I keep in touch through his position coach," coach Todd Bowles said, speaking of outside linebackers coach Larry Foote, who worked with Reddick with the Arizona Cardinals. Advertisement A contract dispute with the Eagles that turned into a trade to the Jets last season derailed Reddick's year. He held out until Week 8, and he only registered one sack in New York's final 10 games of the season. In a year where he finished with just one sack, Reddick called 2024 "very bizarre" and "weird." "[The] only thing on my mind is moving forward, looking to the future and looking forward to what I can bring to the team here," Reddick said during his introductory news conference with the Bucs. Many have likened Reddick's brief time in Tampa Bay to that of Randy Gregory last season, but that's silly. They're two entirely different situations, just like Reddick's time in New York last season. Advertisement The Bucs signed Gregory last season, but he didn't report to mandatory minicamp and missed training camp before being released in August. "With [Reddick's] situation, he's coming in with a big chip on his shoulder," Foote said. "He's upset, and we like it. He's pissed off. He wants to show this league that he's one of the premier pass rushers in this league, and we got a spot for him." At the time of his signing, Reddick issued a statement to Bucs fans at his press conference, and it went over well. "I'm excited. I'm excited to be here. I'm excited to be in front of the crowd. If anything, I can't wait to get in front of the Krewe," Reddick said. "I want to hear the cannon go off a lot this year. So, very excited. Hope the fans, hope the Krewe is excited as well. Looking forward to making this a great fit here." Advertisement Reddick never said that about New York, and Gregory never said it about Tampa Bay. So let's stop making comparisons. Cowboys Insider Reacts to Bills James Cook Trade Rumor
Cowboys Insider Reacts to Bills James Cook Trade Rumor originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills are not hiding the fact that they're in a tough spot with standout running back James Cook. Advertisement They love the player. But they don't love him $15 million APY worth. So Cook, with one year left on his deal and an extension at that level not happening - the Bills have essentially walked away from the negotiating table as they view that ask to be excessive - finds himself in the middle of the rumor mill. Enter a website called "Pro Football Network,'' which, in naming a player from each team that it figures to be traded, marks Cook of the Bills as a guy who can end up with Dallas as a potential landing spot. "Dallas has a connection to Cook with Ken Dorsey, a Cowboys assistant who was Cook's offensive coordinator in Buffalo from 2022 until he was fired after Week 10 of the 2023 season," Pro Football Network writes. Advertisement On the surface? And third: We mean no disrespect to Ken Dorsey, but we doubt he has that level of pull in Dallas. And going deeper? We go to long-time Cowboys insider Mike Fisher for some nuts and bolts here. "I don't know where this one comes from,'' Fish says, "But this one isn't happening. At all. The Cowboys want to fix their running game. For the moment, they'd like to do it with just-signed vets Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. "And in this NFL Draft, in Rounds 2 or 3? They'd like to find a starter. They're paying guys $1 million per year here - not $15 million." Dallas taking a running back early in the draft would give that offense some much-needed juice behind Dak Prescott, and Cook would obviously do that, too. Advertisement But this is one of those on-paper ideas that is never going to make it onto the actual field. Related: Josh and Hailee Steal the Show at 'Sinners' Premiere Related: 'CeeDee Gets It!' Bills Trade for Bengals Stud Trey Hendrickson Proposed by ESPN
Bills Trade for Bengals Stud Trey Hendrickson Proposed by ESPN originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills are without a doubt "all in.'' And so the idea of Bills Mafia being able to get its hands on Trey Hendrickson has not - and should not - go away. Advertisement The Bengals superstar edge Hendrickson - coming off a career-best 17.5 sacks - has been mired in the same situation all offseason. A few months ago, he seemed optimistic about staying in Cincy. 'Inevitably, the goal is to win a Super Bowl for Cincinnati,' he said, 'What that looks like this season, whether it's something we can agree on in terms, that would be great. …'' Well, it's not something they've agreed upon. We're told he wants $30 million per year in a new extension, which frankly does not seem unreasonable. But Cincy has not budged, and now the player is accusing the front office of lying to him. Advertisement "We would like to get Trey extended?" exec Duke Tobin told The Cincinnati Enquirer earlier this offseason. "Yes, he's an important part that played well for us, right? We can't have guys at the top of the payroll in every position, right? We'll do what we can. We'll do what we what we feel is right, and we will try to get Trey re-signed." They've tried that. They also tried to trade him. And now the player is threatening to sit out the season in protest. ESPN has an answer, or so it thinks: Dan Graziano says Buffalo should offer a 2026 second-round draft pick to Cincy. "I could see Buffalo pouncing to secure the veteran edge rusher it needs to take down Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs,'' he writes. "With offseason pickup Joey Bosa already injured, this move would help the Bills' pass rush add a stronger, healthier option. Hendrickson might not get the new contract of his dreams, but perhaps Bills general manager Brandon Beane could sell him on an improved chance to get to the Super Bowl." Advertisement That all seems wildly rosy to us, but ... No Bills player last year had double-digit sacks, and only Gregory Rousseau had double-digit tackles-for-loss, with 16, to go along with a team-leading eight sacks. And Bosa is indeed hurt, though only until training camp. Is Hendrickson the addition needed to get the Bills over the hump that is the Chiefs remains to be seen, but he would be a major addition for a Bills team that is seen as the biggest contender to the Chiefs in the AFC. Hendrickson has star quality. He's got 70.5 sacks in the last four years, putting him in a class with T.J. Watt (73.5) and Myles Garrett (72). Advertisement So if the Bengals ever sell? Sure ... The Bills should try to buy.
