Lammy refers himself to watchdog after fishing illegally with JD Vance

Channel 44 days ago
Shortly after he joined the call between US and European leaders, Vice President JD Vance addressed American troops at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
He told them the President was committed to bringing peace to Europe once again. Vance is on a working holiday in the UK, although he's found himself in a bit of hot water over his fishing trip with David Lammy earlier this week.

Starmer to join Zelensky at the White House for a meeting with Donald Trump

Sir Keir Starmer will join Volodymyr Zelensky and other top European leaders in Washington for talks with Donald Trump tomorrow. The Prime Minister 'stands ready to support this next phase of further talks and will reaffirm that his backing for Ukraine will continue for as long as it takes', Downing Street said. It comes after the US president met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for a high-risk meeting in Alaska on Friday. After literally giving the Russian president the red carpet treatment, Trump split from European allies by backing Putin's Ukraine peace agreement. Got a story? German chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni and Finland's Alexander Stubb are all now set to travel. More details around who may attend are expected to emerge following a "coalition of the willing" meeting today. It is due to be chaired by Sir Keir Starmer, Macron and Merz along with a host of other continental leaders and will focus on Europe's response to Russia's peace terms. Diplomatic sources have revealed a number of details around a reported agreement discussed between Putin and Trump in Alaska. One of the major things reportedly spoken about involves territorial swaps. The Kremlin tyrant is believed to have said he must claim Donetsk and Luhansk regions as Russian. In exchange, he would freeze the frontline elsewhere and halt all future military advances in southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Sources close to Zelensky believe the Ukrainian leader is unlikely to ever agree to giving up territory as it would be a win for Russia. The US has reportedly proposed an agreement that would see Ukraine be offered Nato-esque protections similar to Article 5. The deal would importantly not see Kyiv join the alliance which is one of Putin's main demands. It comes as Putin broke his silence overnight as he vowed to finally agree to a 'fair' deal to end the war in Ukraine. Vlad told top officials in Moscow that hostilities must stop 'as soon as possible' but insisted the 'root causes' of the war must be ironed out before could peace be achieved. Zelensky responded saying that there can never be a peace plan until Russia stops killing innocent civilians. In a post on X, Zelensky said Vlad's conflicting words compared to his actions "complicates the situation". He added that Putin continues to lack "the will to carry out a simple order to stop the strikes". Read our live blog for the latest on the Trump and Putin peace talks...
